This was the most unbelievably bad experience I have every had with any company. Delivery was set up wrong, then it the wrong item came. They weren't very good at communication....

Great Customer Service 3/14/2013

I have to give Metropolitan Design five starts based on their awesome customer service. I purchased a really great convert able sofa that I loved, but couldn't really withstand the normal wear and tear that goes with three dogs jumping around. It wasn't anything crazy or too out of the ordinary, but buttons came off and legs came loose. So, they replaced it, no problem. I won't recommend that particular sofa to anyone who has kids, pets, or will actively be using it as a sleeper. That aside, everyone was *more* than helpful and it seems like I've talked to everyone there. Special shout outs go to Jeff, Amber, and Jose, who in the end was able to finally find me a sofa that looks ultra great and fits my needs as far as comfort for when I have guests sleep over. They have some really great furniture that I would love, love, love to pick up, only if I had a bigger place! Another bonus, they'll pretty much take any piece that have and have it custom upholstered to fit your decor (for a price), which I find super great!! more

What a value 4/25/2011

I walked into this store thinking that it was out of my price range. I found a bedroom set that I liked and shopped the manufacturer on-line after my first visit. I called Tom my salesperson and asked him to quote on the set. I was thrilled that it came in way under my budget. What a value! more

Great deals, excellent, friendly service 1/28/2010

Good: I saved hundreds of dollars for the same exact sectional compared to a couple of my local stores that are supposed to have low prices.. Bad: I had to wait 3 weeks for the sofa to be delivered, but it was build custom for us, so that is about how long I would expect.. Improvements: Overall I was quite happy with my whole shopping experience.. Other: The staff was very knowledgeable and friendly.. more

Very Poor 5/28/2009

This was the most unbelievably bad experience I have every had with any company. Delivery was set up wrong, then it the wrong item came. They weren't very good at communication. (ie. returned phone calls or emails) It took way too long to get answers from them. Completely inept at every turn. I was very disappointed and would not recommend them. more

Metropolitan Furniture In Long Beach, California 5/31/2008

I would recommend Metropolitan Furniture to anyone purchasing new decor for their home. The customer service received from Mr. Drew Dyck and other sales personnel was nothing less than world-class. Delivery process was very accommodating to my needs and schedule. Finally, I have good quality furniture. Verna Brown more

Incompetent! Once they sold you they move on! 11/28/2007

I WISH I had read more reviews before purchasing my bedroom set from Metropolitan Living as I had the same terrible experience as many of the others. I was promised my furniture in 2-3 weeks max and paid for white-glove delivery by Jeffery, the owner of Metropolitan Living. 3 weeks came and went. I called Jeffrey numerous times asking for a status on delivery but he NEVER returned my calls. On the 4th week I finally got a call from the 3rd party delivery company (OMA Furniture Systems) stating my nightstands and bed where in however the dresser was backordered. Ok, things happen so we scheduled delivery of the pieces that were in stock with the understanding that the dresser was only 2 weeks out. At delivery for just the nightstands and bed there was 1 guy to do white-glove delivery and set-up up 3 flights of stairs... despite me telling Jose, the warehouse manager at Metropolitan Living, 2 or more ppl would be required. I had no choice but to try and help the guy carry up the pieces. I am a small woman so this was extremely dangerous but I had no choice as I had family visiting later that day. I couldn't just leave the pieces in the common lobby area of the building!!?? The walls of the freshly painted hallway of our building were marked and scratched up from the lack of professional delivery service or personnel. My building owners were not happy and have requested that this be fixed. So, the dresser... I precede to call every 2 weeks inquiring about the ETA of the dresser. I did reach the owner, Jeffrey, on one occasion and he told me "in 2 weeks". Jeffrey also told me he would refund my white-glove delivery charges promptly. That was 6 weeks ago and still no refund. I waited 3 more weeks and decided to call the manufacturer, Star International, directly for a straight answer. They told me it wouldn't be on a container ship from China for another couple of weeks yet. We are now at 9.5 weeks. I call Metropolitan Living looking for some answers and my refund. I spoke with Don, the office manager?, and he said it would be promptly refunded and sorry for the delay. Another 3 weeks pass and no refund. So late last night.... 12.5 weeks later after the original order I received a call from the same 3rd party delivery company (OMA Furniture Systems) stating they would be there to deliver btw 1-3 p.m. the following day. Luckily I was able to rework my work schedule to accommodate. After all, I was desperate...I just wanted the furniture I paid for and to stop living out of Trader Joe's brown paper bags (I sold my old furniture based on the 2-3 week delivery commitment). And I specifically told the guy that a minimum of 2 guys would be required. He said no problem we'll have 2 guys there tomorrow for delivery. And so here we are today... my phone rings and its OMA Furniture Systems delivery company stating the guys is downstairs ready to make delivery. I asked if there were 2 guys and he said no so I said the delivery won't work then. He said he'd call me back in a couple minutes. My phone rings 10 mins later and magically now there is a 2nd guy to help. Apparently the driver recruited 2 laborers who were working next door repairing a broken sewer main. (I didn't realize this until after the delivery was made and I saw the same guys outside working!!). I am very suspicious as to how they are going to move this up 3 flights of stairs. I suggest using a dolly... "good idea" they say. I reminded them to mind the walls but that request is to no avail as they are clearly not professional movers and continue to leave additional marks and scratches in the common hallway. Finally, they make it up to my unit. They place the dresser end up, still in the full packing materials, in my kitchen and ask me sign as it has delivered and want to leave. I'm like "WTF!" this is not white-glove service. Please finish the job. I neglected to mention that Jose, the delivery guy from the 3rd party delivery company (OMA Furniture Systems), does not really speak English and I very little Spanish so any debate was futile. He just left and now I sit here with the dresser in the my kitchen. Now I can chuckle whereas before I could bearing speak as this was so unnecessarily frustrating! I just spoke with the owner, Jeffery at Metropolitan Living, and he has contracted a proper moving company to come over and finish the job tonight. He also said he would refund me $400 for the delivery, hassle, and damaged headboard (that happened on the first delivery) immediately. Reading the post below I clarified that this would be a credit, correct?! Jeffrey said he would also pay for the paint repair in the hallway. Wow, what an ordeal! In the end, Jeffery took responsibility and apologized for the mess but I'm afraid it's too late. While they have great furniture and good prices they miss the basics of customer service and follow-through where it really matters. They've lost my return business and any hope of referral. If you are a price-sensitive buyer willing to invest the time and energy to micro-manage every aspect through to delivery with no guarantee you will actually get it when they said it would be delivered and not damaged this might be a viable solution for you. more

The worst ever 9/30/2007

My experience was similar to the others. I waited 9 months for the wrong furniture and also had to open a credit card dispute. NEVER purchase from them. They lied about almost everything more

Pure nightmare 9/2/2007

I paid 1770 dollars for a Collezione Europa D9500 dining set consisting of 6 chairs and a leg table to Metropolitan Living On January 19, 2007. I was promised to receive the order within 6 weeks. After waiting 8 weeks I opened a credit card dispute. Right before that a delivery company contacted me claiming they had the delivery from Metropolitan Living, but the night before the scheduled delivery date (February 24) they canceled claiming the warehouse was closed. After 9 weeks I received the correct chairs with an incorrect table (round glass top, instead of rectangular 4-leg), so I had to refuse the table.I kept the chairs only under the assumption that the seller would deliver the matching table. Two days later the seller admitted that they had the wrong SKU number on their webpage, and even later they offered me a refund of 311.99 dollars as a compensation for me having to wait another 6 weeks for the table. I did not get the promised refund for 15 days, it had to reopen the dispute and seller charged my credit card first instead of crediting it. Shipping the new table took more than 6 weeks again, and Metropolitan had to hold it until I returned from vacation. (As agreed in advance in April.) Upon my return in August, it took 5 phone calls to initiate delivery, and on September 1, a table with split slide rails showed up at my house, which I had to send back again. Avoid them at all cost! more

Outstanding prices and excellent customer service 8/21/2007

After searching for weeks for a specific sofa, I found it at Metropolitan Living. Not only were they able to custom build the sofa to my specific needs but it cost me about 60% of the price I found it at other retailers. Great service, great product, and love the prices!!!!! more

Metropolitan Living doesn't deliver what they promise. 3/26/2007

I ordered several pieces of furniture and was told it would take 4 to 6 weeks which turned into 4 to 6 MONTHS! Lots of excuses and stories plus damaged furniture which had to be replaced. My plans were seriously impacted by the long wait and it took countless phone calls and much patience on my part. I actually liked their store but would NEVER purchase from them again and would not recommend them to anyone. more

Just like being in an art gallery 8/12/2005

A swanky, hip furniture store, that offers everything to casual classic furniture to new age designer pieces. I don't care what kind furniture you are looking for, look here first. There will be something for you. If you have been looking everywhere and can’t find the piece you’re looking for, I’m telling you seek Metropolitan furniture for help. They have bailed me out twice both times I looked, and looked…came back here and found a better deal that I had anywhere else. Starting here would have saved me three times: 1) ended up with a piece I’m unhappy with 2) paid too much 3) spent time looking everywhere. more
