Amazing Stylist 10/14/2005

I just recently moved from Sonoma County to San Francisco, and I didn't want to drive to Sonoma County every time I wanted to get my hair done. I was kind of nervous to go to a new stylist because I tend to be a little picky and my hair is very sensitive if you don't know what you are doing. Somebody I knew recommended Hugh, so I decided to trust their judgement. Now that I went to Hugh, I will never go anywhere else. He is not only a color expert, but he is also a blonde expert which can be difficult to find. I recommend him to anybody that is serious about their hair. Thanks for everything. after years away from california, i was so pleased to be back, but i missed my colorist on the east coast, who had created a golden blond i could live with. i asked around and tried a few people who were highly recommended, but they left my highlighted hair either too dull or too ashy. i searched for someone great with highlights, and i found hugh mcguire on citysearch. i went, expecting to be traumatized the way i'd been in my previous attempts at other stylists' salons, but i was thrilled before, during, and after. hugh was reassuring and skillful, and my hair color looks better than it ever has. i highly recommend hugh and mes amis. more

I Continue to be Over the Moon 9/25/2005

I moved to San Francisco 2 years ago. I tried several salons, but they were uptight. Someone had to cut, another someone had to color. I was just a talking head to them. I called Mes Amis and got Gene on the phone. I shared my problems about the other salons with him. He invited me to give his salon a try. He got the color right the first time, gave me the cut I want (not the chic one I should have to be in Cosmo where I will never appear, it was a mutual decision). It looked GREAT!!!! I am, nearly 2 years later, still over the Moon with my cut, color and my wonderful GENE HAYS. I feel like family and enjoy the time I spend at his salon. Brilliant Cut & Color 9/9/2005

I never write these reviews, but I just had to say something abotu Hugh McGuire who recently cut and colored (highlighted) my hair. My mane was a mess when I went in having not been cut in 6 months and having been subject to multiple home colorings. However, Hugh had a vision and in just a few hours was transformed into a better blond and a prettier person. He's a genius and so funny too! It is definitely worth a visit to see Hugh... Amazing Salon 8/31/2005

I don't usually take the time to write reviews, but in this case I must. A previous salon dyed my hair black instead of dark brown and though I tried to accept it, I just looked and felt depressed. Two consultations at two other salons later told me that the process of going from black to a lighter colour would kill my hair, take forever, give me unnatural red highlights, and would also cost a fortune. But after hearing so many good things about a colour genius called Hugh McGuire at Les Amis 193, I made an appointment. It was nothing the other salons told me. It looks great, I feel great. You can tell when he's working on your hair, he knows a ton about colour. He's an expert, and that is why he definitely deserves the name, ""best colorist in SF."" more

I'm a believer! 7/7/2005

To be honest, I was not looking forward to yet another cut and color. After the last place made me look like a 1970s drag queen, I just wanted something suitable that didn't draw too much attention. As soon as I stepped into Mes Amis, however, I got a really good vibe. Not only was my haircut and color a pleasant and FUN experience, but Gene Hays transformed my dreary brownish-something-something locks into cascades of shiny gold. I look like one of those girls in the shampoo commercials! Yes way! My hair is bouncy and shiny and full of life. I've been getting compliments all day. I realized I don't mind attention, as long as it's the good kind. I get the feeling that with these guys working on your hair, the attention you get will ALWAYS be the good kind. My Hair is Hugh's Forever 6/5/2005

I'd been trying to get the right color blonde for years and Hugh nailed it immediately...and he's been keeping it perfect for several years now. I trust him implicitly. I'd avoided going long--Hugh convinced me--and now...well, between the style and the color, the compliments don't stop--from people I know as well as those I don't. Even a stylist at Frederic Fekkai in NY was impressed, and those color snobs think they've got all the answers. NO! Hugh has all the answers! He's a color genius! AND he's cute and fun to hang with! Ian was kind enough to notice my awful hair and invite me into this fabulous salon. Very knowledgeable, kind,creative staff that gets along well and are a cohesive team striving to create a wondeful salon experience. I have changed my cut and color more times than anyone can imagine and I have NEVER been so pleased!!! Excellent value...I highly recommend the trip to Mes Ami 193. Best Colorist in San Francisco 5/6/2005

I used to dread having my hair cut and colored. It was an all day affair at my previous salon. I would spend my Saturday getting passed between 3 to 4 individuals all performing different tasks, each as impersonal as the next, ending with a hefty dent in my wallet. Since I started seeing Hugh McGuire, my salon experience has become enjoyable and effortless. Hugh is very knowledgable about hair. Additionally, he is efficient and reasonably priced. The salon is intimate and comfortable. The team is warm and friendly. Hugh listened to what I wanted, provided feedback and delivered exactly what we discussed. I am very pleased with his work and really enjoyed the time spent at the salon. I highly recommend Mes Amis 193 and Hugh McGuire. WORLD of good! 5/2/2005

I've followed Hugh McGuire around for 5 years from salon to salon and this is by far my favorite... While the space is small, it's bright and airy and filled with a wonderful energy. Hugh is possibly the MOST amazing colorist... taking me from blonde, to brunette, to blonde again over the years. Definitely gets my award for best colorist in the city -- doing what very few other stylists/colorists can do. more

Mes Amis Review 9/30/2004

I have had many cuts and colors done by Richard Fitch at Mes Amis Salon and I always leave the salon feeling fantastic about my hair. Richard listens to what I'm saying then gives me his expert opinion which always makes for a very happy ending for my hair! I would highly recommend Richard and the salon to anyone looking for great service and experienced, knowledgable stylists. more
