BEST HAIR IN SAN FRANSISCO!!!!!! 3/22/2007

My experience at Mes Amis was nothing but amazing. I came in to see Priscilla for a complete make over. I got a haircut and color done and couldnt be happier with the results. The atmosphere and the staff makes you feel relaxed and comfertable. I have my next 2 appointments booked, and next time im getting extensions!!!!!! I highly recomend this salon and Priscilla! Best Hair Salon EVER! 3/7/2007

After reading great reviews in City Search about Mes Amis, I decided to try them, especially I work across the street. They sure didn't disappoint me! Gene is a born natural professional in both cuts and colors. I never got so many compliments from everybody about my haircut. About 5-6 people asked the phone number at work. My neighbor went to Gene too and was very happy. Then I took my mother, who was visiting me from abroad. Gene cut and colored her and made her look at least 10 years younger! She was beaming walking out of his salon. Gene is also such a caring, warm and generous person. I asked him if he could high-light it a bit more and he did free of charge, plus styled it at the end as a compliment. more

Best colour in town 3/2/2007

I have been a client of Gene's for almost 10 years. He does exceptional colour and is just a wonderful kind and caring person. I did stray last year and tried someone else for a while. Big mistake Gene is still trying to get my hair back to its previous condition. I have been asked on many occasions by complete strangers "" who does your colour"" I love this guy and would highly recommend him to all. I always enjoy the friendly banter between Gene and Ron. If your looking for a good cut or colour and a fun place to hang while geting it done. MES AMIS 193 is the place to go. more

Go here for great hair 1/18/2007

I've been a client for seven years, and Gene is an amazing stylist and colorist. I can't even count the number of times I've been stopped by strangers on the street or in shops who compliment both my cut and color. Gene really *listens* to what you're looking for, but gives the right combination of expert advice and creative ideas to achieve a result that makes you feel amazing. Not once have I left feeling disappointed or thinking ""well, it'll eventually grow out."" Plus, it's just plain fun visiting the salon. The staff is always friendly, funny, and unpretentious, and the place attracts the same - I've had incredible conversations and laughs with other clients. Most of all, Gene is someone who truly cares about his clients beyond just a haircut or color....there aren't enough adjectives to describe what a truly great person he is. I can't imagine going anywhere else. more

Best highlights and cut! 1/8/2007

I've gone to Hugh three times now, and each time I have been very happy with what he's done. Specifically, I have had my hair dark for a year and a half now (my natural color), but was wanting to go back to blonde-ish. He knew exactly how to transition my hair back to a lighter shade in a very subtle, yet still noticeable way. He was not like other stylists who heard me say ""I want to go lighter,"" proceeding to give me the usual highlights. Not at all- Hugh is much more intuitive and classy! Pros: very personable, talented, flexible staff Cons: metered parking-bring lots of change! more

Best Cut by Hugh 12/21/2006

Hugh is a great stylist. I got so much compliments from the haircut he did it for me. Most importantly, he is very consistent. I am Asian and I am very picky. He is the one who makes me happy. He is not cheap but definitely worthy. more

Simple, courteous, satisfied 12/20/2006

First timer. I don't know much about hair or syling and I'm a ""roll out of bed and go"" sort of gal. I got Gene, an awsome guy. I really liked that this place was comfortable and NOT snobby like some other fancy salons. It was very welcoming and I was greeted with smiles. Gene was professional, friendly and genuine. It was quick which is good for busy people. Maybe a little too quick? Seemed a little rush. Despite that, I'm satisfied with my haircut and the service. Will go back again. more

Fantastic Color & More!! 12/19/2006

I've been a regular patron of Mes Amis for almost 10 years. It was highly recommended to me by a dear friend and I am so glad I took her advice. I have highlights and my hair looks GREAT ever since I've been going to Gene. The color is very natural and I get rave reviews, especially right after leaving the salon with my hair freshly styled. My hair is long and pretty wavy and nobody else has ever been able to get it as smooth & soft as Gene does. Additionally, everyone is so friendly and nice. I went for the color, I stayed for the same plus the great cuts and fun atmosphere!! more

Come for the outstanding highlights -- stay for the fantastic cut! 12/7/2006

HUGH is a truly talented colorist. He nails it every time. I have been to more than 5 salons in this city including Maiden Lane, Festoon, Cowboys and Angels, DiPietro Todd, and a couple of Aveda salons, switching around after disappointing or unreliable results. Hugh at Mes Amis is hands down the best colorist AND the best hair sytlist I've found in SF in 7 years. I have thick, wavey hair, and Hugh give me a sleek, shapely style every time. He is RELIABLE. Ladies-- we know how hard that is to find! Even when I'm a month overdue for an appointment, the cut still maintains its shape. But above all, Hugh understands blondes -- he gives blonde hair a BEAUTIFUL, natural, textured look. -- better than natural. You will love your hair. more

The worst salon experience 12/7/2006

I tried this place based on all the raves on citysearch and could not believe what happenned. The stylist was unprofessional, late, did not give me what I asked for, the service was rushed, and my hair was ruined by the haircut. In fact, my seven year old daughter literally cried when she saw me after the haircut. My usual stylist and all my friends were also shocked at how shaggy and frizzy my hair looked. Your new best friends. 10/20/2006

I moved here from elsewhere and had at least one nightmare cut before I found Gene at Mes Amis. Not only is he a genius with hair, but he's the kindest, most connected guy in town. Need a body shop? He knows someone! Looking for a job? He's got connections. Oh yes, and the hair -- Rarely a day goes by without my getting at least one compliment on my hair, and I am a ""roll out of bed, wash it, dry it"" kind of gal. Gene's cuts are flattering, wearable in my corporate job, but kicky enough to feel fresh and young. And the atmosphere of the salon is like family. It is tiny and homey and sassy and comfortable. Don't come here looking for posh fawning, come here to find your new best friends. more

LOVE THIS PLACE!! 10/16/2006

I have been going to see Gene for about 5 years now and I wouldn't dream of going to see anyone else. His cut and color is always so flatering and exactly what I want. I turned my sister on to him 3 years ago - she nows comes up from Orange County every 2 months just to get her hair done. The staff is super friendly and the salon is comfortable. Best of all, I know that I will walk out of there with gorgeous hair and a smile on my face. more

Awesome cut and color 10/13/2006

I recently moved to the city from San Diego. I have never been moved to write a review before this one. I went to the same salon for the last 10 years, so needless to say, I was nervous to try someone new. After reading the reviews on Citysearch, I decided to go to Gene at Mes Amis 193. Gene was an artist, a master, a craftsman with my thin hair. Using a razor, Gene crafted a style for me that's low-maintanence and sassy. I wouldn't trust anyone else with that technique. more

Totally Happy 10/12/2006

My sister and her husband go to Gene and gave me his name when I moved to the area. I have been to him twice and can't say enough about his work. His color is great and so are his cuts. My new cut is very me and I just love what he did using the razor! My hair and my sister's is totally different and he does a great job with hers too! more

Hugh is the BEST colorist in SF, maybe anywhere 10/11/2006

I drove up from San Jose this week on a girlfriend's recommendation for a good colorist; I'm tired of stylists that can't get the right color of blonde that I want, along with a killer cut that lasts a good six weeks at least. My friend suggested I try Hugh at Mes Amis. I'm a busy girl. I'm an exec at a high-tech firm in the Valley, I don't have a lot of time to waste running around, so it needs to be worth it for me to go that far, even for my hair Pros: Color genius, listens to you, I didn't feel rushed Cons: He's not closer to San Jose! That's about it! more
