don't go here! 5/6/2008

i had a terrible experience at this place. it's almost as if the kitchen doesn't care how the food comes out. when you order a burger medium, it should come out medium. not rare! dumbasses. it seemed like it was our server's first night working in a restaurant. poor poor people skills, and even worse serving skills. we waited over 30 minutes for our food, and even longer for milkshakes which arrived after the food. the recent reviews on this site that are praising this restaurant are false, especially the one by ""DannyRanjel"" who happens to be a manager at the restaurant. see for yourself on the restaurants website under contact us. it's pretty sad that your restaurant is failing and you have to write false reviews in order to gain customers. as far as mark lindsay goes, i did meet him when i was there and he seems like a pretty nice guy. it's a shame that he has a bunch of inexperienced people working for him. on top of all this, the food is overpriced. i won't be returning. Cons: loser managers, dumb servers, inexperienced kitchen staff more

Great place to gather the family 5/2/2008

We were a party of eight (ages 7 to 60) and we had a great time. The food was excellent...from the grilled cheese to the creole shrimp. I was especially impressed with the great kids menu (my grandaughter loved the salmon with mashed potatoes). We've been to the Rock & Roll Cafe numerous times and the service is always excellent. The decor with all the pictures and memorabilia creates a fun atmosphere. Check it out! more

Friday Night Fun 4/15/2008

This is my first time giving a review. But This past Friday night I was at Mark Lindsay's Rock and Roll Cafe and I had a wonderful time. They have live music going on Friday nights from 8:30 - 11:30pm. The Music was wonderful. Very upbeat and good to listen to. I believe the name of the band was The Brent Rogers band. Of whom I have never heard of but I would definately go back to listen to them again. While I was listening and enjoying the music. I ordered the Grilled Pork Chops from a special menu they had. I have to say that it was the best pork chops I have ever tasted. They were seasoned really nice and very juicy. The coconut rice that was served with the chops also had a sweet and sour chilli mango sauce which was very tasty. I had never heard of coconut rice and was a little hesitant at first. But I like to try new things. After the meal I was very pleased and more than satisfied with the entree. I was full and my server took such great care of me. I was very pleased with the overall restraunt. The music was great, the food and service rocked. I would definately recommend this place to other people. Everybody there seemed to be having a great time. Including the staff on hand. The place was warm and comfortable to be in. Fridays seem to be the best time to come. In my own opinion! I will be back with my friends and family. So that I can pass on the great time and experience that I had there... more

rebuttle 4/9/2008

this is in response to the unfortunate review below, the user who went so far as to name his member name ""i hate mark lindsay""- thats a bit harsh and extremely unnecessary because if he had actually met him, he would know that mark is actually a pretty nice guy who cares very much about his restaurant- I know because I work for him. I was also there, at the restaurant, the night of the man's incident and remember it clearly. Yes, the food took a bit too long. There was a large party and the kitchen can handle only so much at once. Its not as if the kitchen made a conscious decision to ruin this family's evening. \r \r What the reviewer failed to mention was that he was extremely rude to one of our friendliest servers, returned to the restaurant after the to go order was ""raw,"" pounded his fists on the host desk while speaking with the manager, and not only got the two burgers comp'd but also received an extra $20 for further reimbursement. \r It is extremely disheartening to read such reviews. Yes, mistakes happen. But never once has a mistake happened (assuming it was brought to the attention of management) where management did not try their best to remedy the situation. more

what a gem 4/9/2008

What a gem says it all, my girlfriend and I arrived on a tuesday night about 7pm to the R&R. We got a seat at the bar as we walked in with no wait as the place seamed to be slow. I noticed alameda brew pub on tap, as I am a big fan of that I ordered one. STAR in my book for that. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich and my girl ordered the PDX classic. The food came out hot and faster than I would expect. \r Service was good with a prompt bar tender. This all seamed strange to me as I have read all these nasty reviews. I am a guy that needs to try somthing for my self before I believe it, so I did. ALL I can say is boo on all the bad press! This place was a gem in my book with a great theme and ambiance.\r Thank you Mark Lindsay and staff for a great time. We will return! Pros: Good beer, fun staff Cons: Hostess was quiet, and may be tired more

Fun atmosphere with live music on Friday night 4/5/2008

My boyfriend and i decided to sit at the bar and eat on a busy Friday night. There was live music in the bar area, which was pretty good - first set was a little too loud, second set was just right. Basketball on tv and a beer to start - what more could you ask for? We ordered from the special menu - the seafood cakes and the NY strip medallions. The seafood cakes were very good - lots of shrimp and halibut - not all filling. The cilantro cream sauce was light and mild - i do not care for cilantro, but this was nice, not overpowered by the strong taste of cilantro. The greens were a nice addition. Our NY medallions came out cold and raw (we ordered med rare) We sent it back and almost 10 minutes later we got our steak back cooked the way we ordered it.\r The grilled polenta was awesome - full of flavor and color. The steak was seasoned perfectly and the sauce was nice - nice spicy kick at the end.\r Service was good. The bartender was very nice and attentive. I was disappointed because we were not offered dessert and after i saw some of the cakes and sundaes being served - i should of asked for a dessert menu. The vibe was good - fun, energetic - everyone around us seemed to be having a good time. I will definately go back. Pros: Good beer on tap, Attentive server, Live music Cons: No dessert for me...... more

yum! 4/4/2008

Its hard to believe I went to the same restaurant as everyone below. From the moment I walked in, I had a great time. The hostess was energetic and friendly despite the busy lunch- actually asked me how I was doing and offered to seat me instead of making me wait for my friend. After being seated, the server was delightful and offered some suggestions of what to eat. I decided on the veggie clubhouse and the hummus platter. Both were delicious. My friend ordered the Oregon burger and loved it, though it did take a bit longer than my sandwich. I overheard the servers frustrations with the kitchen, apparently lots of changes have been taking place. Then for dessert we had the Gooie Louie which is enough to last you all week. All in all, it was a wonderful experience. There is so much to look at, the staff is friendly from the hostesses to the servers to even the bussers who said excuse me when they ran by. I will definately be back!\r \r Basically, to all those who had a poor experience, it sounds like the majority of the problem was the slow-ness of the food. Its a big restaurant and the kitchen can only do so much at once. If you've never worked in a restuarant before, you wont understand all the little bumps that can happen, not to mention the amount of rude customers-i've heard some awful things from customers in my day. Mistakes happen, things are changing, and get over yourself. \r \r Pros: service, food, things to look at Cons: nope more

WORST MEAL & SERVICE EVER! 3/29/2008

OK. You can read all the bad reviews before me and not listen, but it will be at your own expense. So listen up...DO NOT EVER GO to Mark Linday's Rock N Roll Cafe. We love to support local restraurants in our Hollywood neighborhood so we gave this one a few tries. Each visit we had a problem with either the food r the service. This series of bad dining experiences culminated with our last visit when I took my family visiting from out of town. We waited an eternity for our basic cheeseburger order. When nothing arrived after 45 minutes (including drinks ordered) I finally got up to track down a waiter. We were told another large table ordered before us and they were toobusy (I thought I was in a restaurant that knows how to serve meals to cusotmers). In the meantime, my daughter fell asleep at the table and we had to leave. We asked for the food to be boxed up, but when we arrived home to eat our now cold burgers late at night, we were shocked to see they were UNCOOKED AND RAW HAMBURGER MEAT!! \r \r But it did not end there. I called the manager to tell them about the experience and asked for a credit. When I went in to Mark Linday;s a few days later, the manager greeted me with a total lack of care and was even obnoxious and full of attitude that I was even there!! \r \r With so many quality dining places to choose from in Hollywood (and nice owners), I could think of no reason that anyone should ever want to support such a restaurant. Do us all a favor and take your business to other fine quality restaurants's in the Hollywood Dsitrict and AVOID MARK LINDAY'S SLOP N GO CAFE!!! Cons: FOOD, QUALITY, STAFF more

This was THE WORST! 2/29/2008

What a HUGE mistake! We went to the MLRRC after the movies. We had heard so much but unfortunately had not checked citysearch for reviews. Yes all the memorablia is cute but the food was bland. More importantly the service was TERRIBLE! Our server disappeared then completely ignored us using the excuse that he was busy with a large party. No one seemed to care that we had just had a miserable dining experince. What a shame. We will NEVER go back and will certainly tell everyone we know what a disaster this place has turned into. Good luck Mark Lindsay. Don't quit your day job! Pros: NONE! Cons: Horrible service! Bland food. Tear it down and make a parking lot! more

Just not worth it!!!! 2/23/2008

I have tried the Rock and Roll Cafe twice now and I know I will not be intrested in going again. 1st time we were a party of 4. The service was slow and the food was marginal. I tried the yaws burger to see what all the fuss was about. The burger came rock hard and burnt on the outside and slim pickens for garnish (1 little leaf of lettuce and a barely ripe tomato) Fries were extra. The food choices were odd and the prices were higher than the level of service warrented. The 2nd time I went we were with a party of 14 people on Valentines evening. There were numerous tables open. We were seated up stairs. The server was sooooo slow. 45 minutes passed before he came to take our order. The appetizers were cold and when told they did bring us new ones which were not hot either. The older gentleman with us received 2 two cold cups of coffee. The drinks service was slow and some of the party had to ask twice. I ordered a medium rare burger. When it arrived it was well done and charred on the outside. The meat had several grisel chunks in it. Two philly cheese steak sandwiches were ordered. One was eatable and one even smelled spoiled. The hostess didn't know anything when asked. The head waitress couldn't figure out how to split the bill and claimed the slow service was because they were soooo busy. I say hire more help. They tacked on 18% to the bill. Believe me the service didn't warrent 10%. If you want a pleasant evening consider going somewhere else and save yourself the aggravation. more

Dumb servers and mediocre food 12/13/2007

The food was underwhelming, they didn't serve beer in pitchers and they had no happy hour menu, even though they supposedly had a happy hour. The server didn't even know how to pronounce the names of beer and called a very clear Amber Ale a pale ale. We came in an hour before they closed and left a few minutes late, but they turned off the music and turned off the lights. Wow, we sure felt welcome. The server came back after I was finishing my onion rings (which my friend was helping me with, although they were in front of me) and he said ""wow, you really scarfed those things down"".\r \r Food wasn't awful, but sure wasn't anything that overshadowed the dumb and rude service. We won't be returning. Pros: Food isn't awful Cons: Service is more

Service? What service! 11/7/2007

My wife and I were so excited about the opening of this restaurant. We couldn't wait to go there. Well, we finally made it, and were left with a very bad taste in our mouths. And, not from just the food either. The service was absolutely abhorent. There is just no reason for it to take 35 minutes to bring lunch, at 2pm in the afternoon, on a weekday, with very few patrons in the restaurant at the time.\r We were very upset with the quality of the Yaws burgers and fries. After waiting all these years for the big ""Yaws"" reunion with their burgers, oh what a disappointment. So, between the extremely poor service, the average food, and the high prices, we were left without much reason to rush back. The place is very well done and really brings back the old days. Oh, by the way, the pulled pork sandwich was the best meal ordered at our table.\r Such a shame! \r ps: If I had an email address, I too would have written them with my thoughts, but cannot find an address for them.\r Pros: Ambience Cons: Service, food more

it tasted bad 11/5/2007

This burger tasted bad. The bun could have come from the Wonder Bread Outlet store. The burger was way too small, and expensive. I bet the fries came from a large brown bag in the stand up freezer. The ketchup, although served in a Heinz bottle, tasted like it belonged in a high school cafeteria. \r \r Paul Revere and the Raiders? Would you go to a Duran Duran themed restaurant?\r \r Do the right thing and go across the street for a fantastic burger, and personal, genuine service. Pros: easy to find the exit Cons: everything except the easy to find exit more

Not good 11/3/2007

I have been to Mark Lindsay's Rock N Roll Cafe four time now and will not be back. On my 2nd. visit we not even receive our food after waiting 1 hr. before we had to leave for work. I emailed the manger about the poor service and he never return my email. Last night a out of town friend and I ordered a chicken salad my friend had dirt (mud) in her salad. The food and service is poor and not worth the price. Cons: Thumps down!! more

Livin in the past.... 10/21/2007

So when I heard that Mark was having Yaws burgers and cakes from Gerry Frank I thought wow I have to try this place. I can say the food was just so so. The Yaws Steak size burger I had was not very big. The taste was not the same as I recall from way back when at Yaws. I was a good burger but it was overloaded with Mayo and you could not taste anything else. The cake which I had room for because the burger was small, was good. But it was frozen. The Service was just flat BAD... The place was only about half full when we went around 5pm on a saturday and when we asked if we could sit someplace else besides sitting next to a picture of the kingsmen they told us no. Funny Lots of other seats. The server was bad and only came by to take the order and to give us the check. I can say I've been to Mark Lindsay's Rock & roll Cafe but I can also say I won't be back. His idea was good but the service from his staff will shut down the place. Pros: A History lesson Cons: BAD SERVICE more

underwhelming 10/20/2007

Service was underwhelming. There was no diaper changing facilities in the restroom and when I inquired if there was an option for changing, I was flatly told no. No apologies or any explanation. Our server was short and unpersonable. Not at all friendly. It was pretty quiet in there, but service was still very slow. I didn't get a refill on my iced tea until I was done eating my meal.\r \r The food was good. Not fabulous, but good enough. \r \r My impression of the place was that Mark Lindsay is a little (or a lot) stuck on himself and thinks he's pretty hot stuff. This place is a shrine to all thinks Mark. Sorry, I didn't think that much of Paul Revere and the Raiders, and besides, a restaurant can't float on a has-been band's reputation. \r \r I'm disappointed. There was potential, but it'll take some good reviews to get me back through those doors. Pros: good menu variety Cons: poor service more
