Madigan's Waterfront is the PERFECT venue if you want to have a ceremony and reception on site for no more than 80-90 people. End of story. Cathy Madigan, one of the owners, acts as your wedding planner for the event. She is there well before you wedding helping to get set up and make everything beautiful, she is there to make sure your ceremony goes smoothly, and helps to organize the events of the day so that everything stays on schedule and you don't have to worry about a thing. We did pictures before in the courtyard with a gazebo starting at around 3:30 with all of our family and extended family. We were also able to do pictures later on the docks outside the venue which made for some really pretty photo opportunities. The ceremony started at 5:00pm it was over by about 5:20. Our guests started drinking and the wedding party went back outside for a few more pictures. The rest of the day was perfect. It ended at around 10:00pm, probably a little bit later since we were having so much fun. We had about 75 guests which was perfect for this venue. There were several levels in the venue to help separate the eating area, cocktail area, dance area, buffet line and cake area. It was also nice that there is a large wrap around deck that is totally private and for your guests to use if they want to go outside to get fresh air or look at the river. The price per person included just about everything including the cake. She doesn't nickle and dime you for the use of her chairs, linens, china, etc. She was also able to provide you with a DJ that she uses frequently for a very reasonable cost. The food was amazing! So good. I would definitely suggest the Roast Beef Carving station with the ""Horsey Sauce"" and the pasta station. They were a huge hit with my guests. The cost of booze is based on consumption FYI, not open bar. For most people having a wedding this would probably be fine because the cost of alcohol per drink was very very reasonable. But, lets just say we went a little over on our anticipated bar bill. Our guests repeatedly used the words ""Perfect"" to describe our venue and the reception as a whole. We had such a blast and it was quite literally the best day ever. We are still in awe at how perfect everything went. I also wanted to mention that we blocked rooms off at the Hampton Inn which is about a mile away from Madigan's. It is the best hotel option in the area and is also the closest. The hotel was able to set up a shuttle for my guests so they could get to and from the reception at no additional costs. The rooms are updated, clean, there is an indoor pool and hot breakfast in the morning. Since we booked a bunch of rooms they gave us a complimentary suite! Everything was perfect! more

Madigan's Waterfront is a wonderful restaurant. The scenic view of the river was an added bonus. The service was excellent from the friendly hostess to the excellent wait staff. My husband had the Dirty Chicken which was full of flavor. I had the Tilapia Bruschetta which was superb. After dinner we went into their newly renovated bar which looked amazing. WOW! It was a wonderful night! more

I had lunch here this past weekend with 2 friends before heading next door to paint some pottery.\r \r I had the crab cake sandwich and my dining partners had the fish & chips and the steak salad.\r \r We all enjoyed our food. more

We recently tried Madigan's after I returned from a week long business trip. It was the perfect place to relax and enjoy dinner with my wife and our little boy. We sat out on the deck overlooking a quiet spot on the occoquan. They had live music and great food. We really enjoyed the crab cake appetizer, the stuffed flounder (extremely good) and the chicken alfredo. We will definitely be going back for another relaxing evening on the deck. more

One of the more popular dining destinations in historic Occoquan is the locally owned Madigan's Waterfront. As its name suggests, the restaurant is located right on the Occoquan River and specializes in seafood dishes, as well as steaks, pasta and poultry. Madigan's also has plenty of live oysters year round, with the local Chesapeake variety being a big draw in the fall. The restaurant's Sunday brunch is very popular as is their outdoor deck, which provides a fun spot for a large bar with TVs, daily happy hours, live music, entertainment and karaoke. Madigan's is a great place from which to boat. We love the restaurant and it's outdoor deck facing the river. Our boating club (Carefree Boat Club) is getting ready for the boating season. Ten of the twelve boats that we keep at Madigan's are already at the dock. Can't wait for the boating season to begin. more

I have been to Madigans many times over my 10years in the area and always enjoyed it. I came online to get the address because we were taking 4 friends who had never been. I read all the horrible reviews and was afraid I had made a mistake and was taking them someplace bad.. I made resivations and then showed up early so we sat in the bar & waited for our table. We were in no hurry and the hostess was very nice about things. Our service was about 85% good but not because she wasnt nice and willing. we grabbed the hostess once to get something for us and she was great and checked back on us a few times. The bread was good. The oysters rockafeller was good. Soup was great. Presitation of the entrees was lacking some but my swordfish was very good, very meaty and flaky & we all loved the garlic mashed! We had a very picky 15yr old in the party and she loved the chicken toritla soup and the alfrado (Ihave seen this girl take one bite of food and shove it away) she ate everything. We all took Choc Cake home to eat while playing cards and we all LOVED it! Very rich and moist. My friends cant wait to come back when the weather breaks and sit outside.. They loved it... more

We used Madigan's for our rehearsal dinner venue. Our guests complimented us on the restaurant and food. My in-laws couldn't have enough nice things to say about Cathy as they worked with her in organizing the dinner. Everything ran smoothly on the night of the rehearsal dinner and you could tell that Cathy and the staff have a lot of experience and they knew how to handle everything! more

A bunch of us went for a boat outing. We docked at the small pier in old town Occoquan and opted to have lunch at Madigan s which is right off of the water. We were seated in the outdoor patio, even though the place was crowded. I ordered the goat cheese Quessadilla. It was very good. Several of my compadres ordered the crab crake sandwich and said that it was fresh and tasty. Very convenient if you re going there by boat. more

Enjoyed both breakfast and happy hour at this location! I am surprised to read the lackluster reviews of this place because in the last three weeks I have enjoyed both happy hour and breakfast here.\r \r First, the happy hour. The location is fabulous and when some co-workers and I heard of the wine special on Wednesday's we took advantage! For $10 off a bottle is a nice treat. Once we ordered our wine, we decided to go for for some food as well. I enjoyed the fish sandwich (HUGE!) and fries, another had the french dip, and another had the soup of the day with a salad. Everything was hot and fresh, no complaints! Service was also just fine.\r \r Now for my breakfast visit. Went with my husband while we were perusing the town of Occoquan on a Sunday morning. I enjoyed the western omelet, with the potatoes and biscuit being some of the best I've had in awhile. He enjoyed the eggs Benedict. The one weak point of our meal was the OJ. It just didn't taste quite right. For the money, we feel the food, service, and setting were well worth it and would come back again before stopping at an IHOP.\r \r Bottom line: Madigan's Waterfront has a variety of seating and meals to please almost every diner. We had our company holiday party at Madigans waterfront and it was top notch! Excellent food, service and enviorment. Our menu included the dirty chicken, vegatarian platter ( portabello mushrooms stuffed with goat cheese and pine nuts), grilled salmon and the prime rib. Dessert included a great pcs of cheese cake and excellent choc mousse.\r Everyone had a great time and loved the food. The price was excellent for the event (better than any other price I found in the area). We had our event on a Friday night so the band was playing after 9:00 but we could hardly hear the music unless the door to the bar was open. The one down side is the bathroom is located in the bar area so you had to leave the restaurant area and walk through the smokey area to use the restroom. I didnt really consider that an inconvenience as the other part of the event was so good, no one seemed to care. I highly recommend Madigans for a nice dinner or for a company event. Its also a great place to do for a night of live music and dancing. All in one. I will say that its a much nicer and classier enviorment than Tims or Oasis if your looking for a nicer enviorment. If your looking to drink and eat crabs and throw down, you might want to go to Tims. more

Madigan's Waterfront is a very pleasant riverside restaurant in the quaint village of Occoquan, VA. Madigan's is an excellent stop during a visit to Occoquan and is definitely a dining destination itself\r \r Seafood entrees are the mainstay and include Crabcakes, Sea Scallops au Gratin, Stuffed Shrimp, Stuffed Flounder and a featured fresh catch of the day. Steak, chicken, and pasta dishes are available, too. Snadwiches, burgers, and salads are also on the menu. (If you are not up for a full crabcake dinner, the crabcake sandwich is a fine alternative.)\r \r Madigan's does crab very well and I can recommend both the crab cakes (nicely seasoned and full of crab meat rather than filler) and crab chowder.\r \r The main dining room is decorated in a gazebo or atrium style with trellises, hanging plants and wood floring. Dining on the waterfront deck is most enjoyable in spring and summer, but is popular the year round. Sunday Brunch is served from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.\r \r Live music featuring local and regional bands is scheduled in the bar and lounge area on Friday and Saturday nights. more

It was a beautiful day but only March so I wasn't sure if their deck would be open yet, but they opened it for that day! We sat on the deck and had drinks. Then we ordered the shrimp & crab nachos. I had never tried that combination on nachos before but they were fabulous! and definitely enough to share, almost too big for 2 but we finished them! I had the crabcake sandwich, wonderful. You could see the lumps of crab & perfect seasoning! My friend had the Reuben and he loved it. I would absolutely recommend this restaurant. The server told us that they have entertainment at the tiki bar on the weekends and are offering fun events for the summer...we will definitely be back to hang out with our friends and the food & prices were great too! more
