Not a steakhouse any longer as of 2/28/2007 3/1/2007

If you are looking for steak. Don't bother visiting this restaurant. It is no longer a steakhouse. Instead it is a mediocre noodle house now, but it retains the name Lotus. The inside still looks like the photo at the top though. I walked in and sat down thinkinking it was still a steakhouse with a friend. It seemed a bit awkward to leave so we decided to give it a try anyway. Pros: Atmosphere Cons: Food, service more

Amazing 7/23/2006

One of the best dinner's I've ever had. The steak is grilled to perfection here- every dish seemed so delicious it was hard to choose. Service was great and we were seated right away- no making reservations and waiting another 20 minutes. Definitely recommended. more

Above Expectations 2/14/2006

Nice small restaurant. I ordered the prime rib and my girldfriend ordered the filet mignon. They were perfect particularly the filet. Delicious. We ordered the calamari appetizer which was pretty good as well. The service was good and I especially liked the fact that the restaurant is quite small. I have been trying a lot of new restaurants lately, particularly those specializing in steaks and I was very happy with Lotus. Price was not half bad either. Only negatives were that the sodas are served in the can and I didn't see any hard liquor on the menu. I'm not much of a wine drinker though so I can't comment on that. Pros: Food, Service, Size Cons: Drinks in the can, Alcohol choice more

Awesome ambiance but inexperienced service 10/2/2005

Absolutely perfect atmosphere for a date or other intimate dinner. It's furnishings reek of cool. The food was above average but not excellent. The problem with our dinner was our absolutely inexperienced waitress. She committed a number of service faux pas that were really brought the evening down a notch. She did not know the menu well, when she brought our bottle of wine she just clumsily poured out two big glasses without offering a taste to me to confirm the bottle was OK, she kept trying to take away our nearly full bread basket, she did not give us steak knives which were a necessity since we had lamb and filet mignon, etc. etc. I don't want to be nit-picky but for a place charging relatively high prices and having obviously put so much effort into creating a truly superb atmosphere should spend more time educating their wait staff. Pros: Ambiance, Quiet Cons: Service more

Great Find in the Sunset 5/27/2005

I had the best dinner at Lotus last night enjoying the delicious crab and garlic noodles which come with the entree. Most of the other restaurants charge extra so this was an added plus! I took my 12 year old son and my friend Anita who thought her New York steak was very tasty including the side of garlic spinach. Here you get a lot for the price which is very reasonable and won't empty out your wallet. This is my second time at Lotus and I thought the server was very pleasant and personable, our dinner was served promptly. We look forward to becoming regulars!! Pros: Affordable, Quiet, Good Service Cons: Search for parking more

Upscale in the sunset 11/7/2004

Very nice decor! Trendy, yet cozy. We went for dinner on a Sunday night so it wasn't very busy. I had Fillet Mignon with garlic mashed potatoes and garlic spinach. Very tasty. My wife had wonderful crab ravioli, really wonderful. It is refreshing to have a nice place in the Sunset since most of the establishments out here are bright, trashy, cheap chinese restaurants. Pros: Steak, Quality, upscale more

It was all about the garlic noodles! 10/25/2004

This place was a surprise to me. The exterior is unassuming and not very impressive, but inside the restaurant it was quite cozy. We ordered the prawns wrapped in bacon. It was slightly overcooked and a bit greasy. Not offensive, but could have been better. The T-bone steak was perfectly seasoned, I ordered garlic mashed potatoes (wasn't as garlicky as I wanted it to be) with it. My friend, Yazmine Zoren, had the rack of lamb which seemed small but it filled her up. She enjoyed her dish and we shared garlic noodles. The garlic noodles rivals that of Crustacean's. It was the best dish we had in that venue! Overall, try this restaurant, but don't believe the raves. It's above average, but I woudn't categorize it as Excellent. Pros: Nice ambience, great service, delicious food Cons: , atrocious flooring, foggy location more

Absolutely Delicious! 7/11/2004

I had one of the best dining experiences at Lotus last night. The fresh seed crusted bread w/ sun dried tomato dip was a truly pleasant starter; the coconut Calamari (one of the truly best Calamari dishes I've had - this is one of the best, I told my friends at dinner); NY steak was cooked to perfection (for me, it's medium, and it was right on!) and the banana dessert that really finished up the meal. I watch the food network a lot, and needless to say I enjoy cooking - so for me to get excited about a restaurant, that says a lot. I'm taking this time to share this experience with others - that they too might enjoy a great dining experience at Lotus! The wine list is quite limited though; I'd bring my own bottle of wine next time. more

mah-mah 2/22/2004

The four of us dined on a Saturday night. We were excited to try this place recommended to us. When it took 15 minutes for the waitress to come to our table to tell us about the specials, we knew it was going to be a long night. She was the only waitress for the night and we watched as she hussled back and forth to the tables with food and drinks. We noted the time when we sat down and it took almost an hour before we finished appetizers and got our main course. Double cut porkchops was disappointing as it was only 1 chop on the plate and was overdone. Would recommend the rib eye steak for those with big appetites. Unless service improves, I would not go back. The waitress apologized for the long wait when we paid our bill, noting that she knew service was slow. Pros: easy parking, ambiance, price Cons: , food, lack of personality more

Excellent restaurant 6/2/2003

Highly recommended!!! My friend and I went there for dinner and were pleasantly surprised. Great food, great value, great service. We had steamed mussells, coconut crusted calamari, Spanish seafood Paella, and garlic butter roasted whole crab. YUMMY! Will and Joe, the owners, along with the wait staff, were very attentive! Definitely returning to the restaurant soon. Parking is easy on Noriega. Pros: Good Food, Good Value, Good Service more

Sunset Jewel 9/26/2002

A much needed addition to the Sunset area. Great California cuisines with very professional service; however it's very easy to miss b/c of the miniscule sign and mysteriously dark blinds. The double cut pork chops are delicious... Pros: Food, Service more

Hidden Treasure on Noriega 9/22/2002

Both the service and the food are of top quality at this cozy gem of a restaurant hidden in the Sunset. Crab cakes and the coconut crusted calamari were delicious appetizers and the ribeye steak melted in my mouth. This dining experience was so pleasant that I returned the next day for lunch and indulged in the prime rib french dip and lightly seasoned garlic fries. Finally! A place with a little class in the Sunset! Pros: Excellent service, Warm atmosphere, Great variety more

An Elegant Lotus in the Sunset 9/11/2002

My wife and I have just discovered Lotus which we rate as very likely to join the Cliff House, Lakeside Cafe, and Cafe Reggio as among our favorite west side restaurants. We thoroughly enjoyed the Crab Cakes, Roasted Chicken Breast, and Double-Cut Pork Chops with the reasonably-priced St. Exupery and Echelon white wines by the glass. The dishes were well-prepared, tasty, and elegantly spiced. The co-owners Will and Joe are excellent hosts and deserve praise for the elegance and sophistication Lotus brings to the Sunset. We are looking forward to getting thoroughly acquainted with both their lunch and dinner menus in the weeks to come. Lotus may well signal the entry of top quality cuisine in the Sunset. Pros: Delightful dishes, High value, Good ambiance Cons: None so far more

Great Neighborhood Find! 9/1/2002

We used Citysearch to try to find a new sunset restaurant and came upon Lotus. It's so low key that we drove right by it twice! because of its size its definitely a neighborhood joint but the tases and combinations are great. The fish was excellent (we've had both Mahi dishes & the seas bass), the cooked spinach not overdone, and we were pleased to find they have vegetarian options as well. Athough the veggies can be a bit buttery- overall the food & service was great! Pros: great fish, lots of choices, good value Cons: sometimes buttery more

Yummy! 8/25/2002

I highly recommend this place if you want something different. Sort of in the style of House, Lotus blends traditional western foods with less traditional flavors. The tomato and olive oil dipping sauce for the bread is a great beginning. The crab raviolli is delicious, as were the mango salad and french onion soup, or so claimed my dining companions. The truly greatest thing about this place however is the desserts: I know when I go back I should try something new, but I'm sure I'll have to go for the deliciously creamy Creme Brulee again. In short, great food, great service! Pros: great food, friendly service, GREAT desserts more

Great start but..... 7/28/2002

I must say I was quite impressed by the freshly baked bread they served alongside a wonderfully spiced dipping oil. The appetizers were delicious, but the entrees were lackluster. They were trying hard on the surface, but they obviously haven't explored food in depth. The quality did not reflect the pricing for the entrees. I see potential, but......they're not quite there yet. (same goes for the service..) Pros: freshly baked bread more

Best Bang for the buck 7/3/2002

I can't say enough good things about this place. The food is supurb. The service is excellent, andthe price is very reasonable. I would recommend any of my friends to check this place out. They also have some of the best roasted crab in the city on Thursday nights. Pros: Great Prices, Easy Parking, Great Food more
