Best

This is a great Vietnamese restaurant in Chapel Hill. We were especially looking for Pho as that is one our favorite lunch dishes, and we finally came across a perfect place for ...

Worst

Went for lunch. Food was good but not great. Price was on the high side. Ice tea was really good. Service was so so. Could not get the check so we could leave. Well after we...

It it's good enough for Dee 12/1/2005

...It's good enough for me! Absolutely the best Vietnamese food you can get in the South. Without a doubt, 2-t - the pho- is the right choice for any mood...whether it's an after GRE celebration or a rainy day comfort food. Every bite a party for the mouth! more

Lime and Basil is inexpensive and has great food 11/6/2005

After reading some of the other reviews, i wanted both asian food enthusiasts, as well as those unfamiliar to know that lime and basil has awesome food. The prices are great too. We often only spend about $15 to $20 and always get an appetizer, two entrees, and drinks. You really cannot beat the prices! The food is amazing. We get the salad rolls and the stir fried lemongrass chicken. The foo is great too. You have to go, but they close for a siesta in the middle of the day, so don't try in before 5pm or after 3pm. Pros: Cheap prices, great food Cons: siesta, parking more

no problems thus far 8/1/2005

I've been to Lime and Basil quite a few times in the past year since becoming a student at chapel hill and have not seen slow service at all. The food arrives more quickly than most restaurants and the food is excellent. A little pricey, but worth it. Pros: nice atmosphere, great food Cons: somewhat pricey more

A delightful place! 6/8/2005

I was having a hard time finding a good Vietnamese place to eat around the Chapel Hill area and my friend recommend me to Lime and Basil with a warning ""Sometime the food can be slow"" I was hesitate to dine there with all the bad reputation of how horrible the services was. However, all the time I been there I was happy with the services that I got. Customers are usually being seat right away. Sometime there might be along wait on the weekend. All the servers were very polite; they are more than happily to explain and answered all the questions. My food comes out in a reasonable amount of wait time, and their food was amazing. They have a very wide selection in vegetarian foods. I am definitely recommending the stuffed tofu. The average dish is about $7.50 to $8.50. Bets of all they DON'T use MSG. Pros: No MSG, Friendly waitstaff, Pho Cons: No wines more

horrible service 1/22/2005

I had high hopes for this place because it's so hard to find good Vietnamese food here and I get tired of having to drive to Cary or Raleigh to get it. Alas, the service is so poor at Lime and Basil that I never went back after my first visit. Our waiter, ovbiously trying to stave off complaints, rudely told us even before we ordered that our meal would take an hour to arrive because they made all of their food fresh, and because they were busy. It seemed like he wanted us to leave so he wouldn't have to wait on another patron because he was too busy. The food was good, but too expensive. I'll still be driving to Cary and Raleigh. more

Very good pho 12/3/2004

Pho-nut would rank this and Pho-Cali in Raleigh as best pho in triangle. Only negative here can be parking (non-existent). Nothing wrong with service the 3-4 times I've been here. My only wish is that one of the triangle pho joints would do beef slices the authentic viet way-- thin raw slices that cook in near-boiling pho broth at the table. Pros: soup, price, clean Cons: , no raw beef more

Consistently terrible service 9/3/2004

The food is great and compares to the pho and bun I could get when I lived in California. However, after giving this place about 5 tries to overcome perhaps some of the worst and most incompetent service Ive had, I have to say, I cant go back. Your food either never comes, or servers never stop at your table. Wait staff are slow, inattentive, inexperienced, apathetic and cant explain the very basic menu to folks who have never had Vietnamese food. It was embarrassing to recommend this place to friends of mine. With good reason, they were all offended by how lousy the service was. In addition, no beer or wine is on the menu. It makes me sad, because the place is otherwise a bright, popular place and fills a culinary niche on Franklin St. Pros: good food Cons: , long waits, no beer more

Finally good Vietnamese 7/23/2004

I was spoiled by good cheap vietnamese food. I sorely missed this here in the triangle. Now Lime and Basil fills this need amply. A must try. Pros: food, price, quality Cons: , only one location more

Good food, Poor service. 6/26/2004

Since moving to NC from the midwest (away from my Vietnamese parents) I have been craving authentic pho. Lime and Basil fulfilled my cravings! However, once seated, it took the wait staff and hr to get serve us water and then another half hr to take our order. It was almost 2 full hrs before we were served dinner. The LONG wait would make me think twice about coming back. But I have to admit, the pho has been the closest to my mothers in the triangle area... Back in where I live, Pho is half the price it is here... But perhaps only a Vietnamese person would know how truley inexpensive the dish is to prepare. Pros: Good Food, Nice simple decor Cons: , slow service, unattentive staff more

Nice Effort, Above Average Result 6/25/2004

As a person who has quite a bit of Vietnamese food, I enjoyed the overall experience. The restaurant has only been open for a few months, and with a little luck should work out the kinks. The ""salad rolls"" or, as it is often referred ""fresh spring rolls"" or ""garden rolls"", were the most pleasant aspect of the meal. The sauce was just right and with a little bit more cilantro it would have been perfect. The seafood soup with egg noodles was well done, but needed a little more flavor. The chicken with lemongrass was disappointing--the chicken was dry and the vermicelli needed to be cooked a little more. The prices are very reasonable and it is worth taking a chance. more

Delicious Chapel Hill addition 6/25/2004

Very generous portions are presented with delicate spices and an obvious attention to detail. The tofu with lemongrass and chillis was good but the sauce, although flavorful, was thin. The vegetarian stir fry was perfect, and the fresh spring rolls were wonderful. Their thai tea bubble drink was tasty and fun! Pros: food, service, prices more

Tasty, authentic Vietnamese cuisine 6/10/2004

Having lived in Vietnam and in US cities with lots of Vietnamese restaurants, this new Chapel Hill restaurant can hold its own when it comes to providing tasty, authentic Vietnamese cuisine at reasonable prices. Though the decor is not fancy, the restaurant makes it up with dishes of large portions. Staff is courteous and down to earth. Vegetarians will be happy for there are many options, but meat-eaters will be content as well. Finally, a good Vietnamese restaurant for Chapel Hill! more
