Let me tell you something. If you're or visiting Pittsburgh, you need to try Le Pommier. I was there for dinner on New Year's Eve and I can't find the words to describe my satisfaction. I congratulated the Executive Chef a number of times to the waiters. This guy put together a 5-course meal that is beyond imagination. Appetizers, salads, great main courses, you name it. To top it all off, the dessert was the icing on the cake. This is a must-visit! Pros: Excellent food, great service! more

Alright food service could be better 7/27/2009

The only thing French about it was the waiting staff with French attitudes. I had the Truitte Almondine which was alright but I could have ordered better fish at a chain restaurant. The rest of the party did not enjoy their dinner at all. They were turned off by the fact that we were told several times that we had to finish our dinner by 8:00 PM because another party had reservations. We eat out frequently all over Pittsburgh at small restaurants and after this experience we will not be returning here. more

I've eaten at a number of establishments in this city and most times I walk away disappointed. However, I can happily say that I walked away quite pleased from Le Pommier. In many restaurants the wait staff mistake good service for not leaving you alone long enough to even get a bite in. The service here was pleasant but you weren't shooing your waiter away just so you could eat. The food itself was quite good and the house wine selection was excellent. First time I ever ate at a french restuarant, and I couldn't have asked for a better experience. We had the best waitress ever. She had a very calming voice and was always showed up at the perfect time, but not too often either. We had the escargot as an appetizer (first time) and it was amazingly good. I had Scallops and my girlfriend got steak. Both dishes were beautifully served, perfectly portioned, and expertly prepared. We were in Pittsburgh for just night and hoping to eat well. It was the first time for both of us in Pittsburgh, and I chose Le Pommier based on the reviews on this site since Zagat doesn't seem to cover the 'burgh. It was definitely the right decision. The restaurant is very casual and relaxed, and the food would have made us very happy even back in NYC. We have no shortage of good bistros in New York, but if Le Pommier were here I think we'd be regulars. The steak tartare, duck breast and hanger steak were all great bistro food, and they have a very nice all-French wine list with many reasonably-priced good bottles. (And some more expensive bottles as well.) The service was professional and charming but not overly formal. It was not a trendy sort of crowd, which we were very happy about; it was a room full of happy people enjoying good food. We'll definitely be back next time we're in town. Fabolous cuisine for any occasion 1/18/2007

We have had the good fortune to dine at this delightful establishment on a number of occasions in the past few years. Without exception, the atmosphere, service, and cuisine exceeded our very highest expectations. For the appetizer, the mussles were delicious; the french onion soup was better than any we've had; As for the salad course, both the artichoke salad and the pear and roquefort were perfectly dressed and very tasty; for the main meal, the vegetarian option of pumpkin gnocci with leeks was rich and very satisfying, and the chicken dish was perfectly cooked--tender and extremely tasty. Dessert of apple crepes was to die for. Throughout, the service was impeccable and not at all stuffy. The atmosphere really is one of a bistro--contemporary, casual, and never lacking in elegance. Treat yourself to a fine meal at Le Pommier--you will not be disappointed! Pros: service, atmosphere, cuisine more

Good for a splurge! 6/6/2006

I'd been wanting to go to this restaurant for more than a year, and it didn't disappoint. The decor is quaint and warm, the food/wine was wonderful, and the service was excellent. Unfortunately, we had to wait for our table because the couple before us was evidently taking their time, which will sometimes happen with reservations. The owner handled everything wonderfully though. We each got one drink on the house while we waited at the bar and checked out the menu. By the time we were seated, we ready to order, and the service was very prompt, though there was no rush. It was a wonderful evening, and I was very impressed with their hospitality! I noticed some of the reviews had parking as a con. There is free parking on the side streets off Carson. We were there on a Saturday night and had no trouble finding parking. Le Pommier has never failed to amaze us. Every meal we have had there is superb, the sauces are wonderful, and the flavor compostion on the plate is well thought out - and delicious!! Our most recent visit I had the veal with risotto - the orange and rosemary risotto was the best I have ever had - I could eat this dish every week. For dessert I selected from that nights sorbets - all made in house. They were fresh and full of flavor - and served with cookie that would make my grandmother envious. This resstaurant is fun, with ecxellent and pleasant staff, and delicious food. We are now VIP members of the restaurant, and we will be going back at least once a month for a wonderful evening. Le Pommier -- Walk Away 2/15/2006

Disappointing doesn't begin to describe this over-hyped snobatorium. The fried mussels appetizer was a limp mound of mushy moules atop tasteless stewed tomatoes. Not that the wait staff was expressed any concern over our welfare and paid no heed to the fact that the dish was uneaten when they officiously removed it from the table. The mushroom and artichoke salad was as if it was stolen from the salad bar at the local supermarket. The duck, while nice, was nothing special. Overall, I will advise all I know to steer clear of this slop house masquerading as a French bisto. Mon Dieu! more

leave those snotty french restaurant expectations at home- le pommier is not the old le pommier- new life, a little vigour, a little more bustle & colour to the place is why i started going back again. if the kids are running the place, they're doing a great job at it. the food's as fantastic as ever, if not better. i like that the wine's not totally overpriced (compared to other restos) and that i'm not surrounded by stiffs attending the epicurian equivalent of high mass. a jovial bistro that i will only keep recommending. Underwhelming to say the least. Perhaps it's the new ownership; it feels like the kids are running the store. The food was passable: my profiteroles (Gruyère Puffs with Chilled Lump Crab & Crème Fraîche were a gluey mix with no discernable flavors, the sliced Bosc Pear on Mixed Field Greens was drenched in its dressing, the Cassoulet was fine as was my Choucroute Garnie, but neither were excellent; a good cook could achieve both at home. Which is exactly why our meal was hardly worth the trouble--only the poached pear was worth the trip. The service was also less than inviting. After our waitress told us that the restaurant was out of paté--apparently 8:00 pm is their final seating--she listed the appetizer special, which I took. Unfortunately, she didn't understand that the steak tar-tar had also ran out or never been offered. Needless to say, we will not return. tasty morsels 1/2/2004

All I have to say is that if you would like to dine someplace and you're willing to PAY for the food THIS IS THE PLACE! I have never been dissapointed with anything I have every ordered at this restaurant. The soft warm glow of the dining room is a very nice change of pace from the city outside. Everyone is professional without being cold. The food is better than Le Mont, I'd say. It's cheaper (not by much) and for certain it's just a more honest dining experience. I love it!
