Surprisingly good bistro in Pittsburgh 8/8/2007

We were in Pittsburgh for just night and hoping to eat well. It was the first time for both of us in Pittsburgh, and I chose Le Pommier based on the reviews on this site since Zagat doesn't seem to cover the 'burgh. It was definitely the right decision. The restaurant is very casual and relaxed, and the food would have made us very happy even back in NYC. We have no shortage of good bistros in New York, but if Le Pommier were here I think we'd be regulars. The steak tartare, duck breast and hanger steak were all great bistro food, and they have a very nice all-French wine list with many reasonably-priced good bottles. (And some more expensive bottles as well.) The service was professional and charming but not overly formal. It was not a trendy sort of crowd, which we were very happy about; it was a room full of happy people enjoying good food. We'll definitely be back next time we're in town. Pros: Great food, charming service, relaxed atmosphere, great wine list Cons: It's in Pittsburgh! more
