I love this place! 8/15/2008

I fell in love with Le Bistro! I was the best meal I have ever had in my life. I am a French American and I have been to France many times and this restaurant beats my Grandmother's cooking and any restaurant I have been to in Paris. Thank you this wonderful treasure. I have been telling everyone to go! Pros: It is romantic and the food is phenomenal! more

More than French Food, its the best fresh French food 5/4/2007

Le Bistro is by far one of the best restaurants in the area. From the minute you walk in you are warmly greeted by Kathleen and then the experience begins. We've had lunch and dinner there many times and have never been disappointed. I own a catering business and I've been in the food industry for many years. I believe I know good food and that's what Jean-Paul gives you. From begining to end the presentation is impressive and the freshness of the food is amazing. Even a simple salad for lunch is beautifully presented with a balance of textures and flavors that complement each other perfectly. The service is excellent and not intrusive. In fact we noticed that our water glasses had been refilled and we never saw anyone do it. Kathleen and Jean Paul make you feel right at home and part of their family. We now celebrate every wedding anniversary there and we recently invited 20 of our friends for my 50th birthday and treated them to an amazing dinner, with a different wine for each course personally selected by Jean Paul. And you have to have dessert, sinfully wonderful and decadent. But I never leave feeling so full I can't move which is a horrible feeling. Instead I leave very satisfied and relaxed because you're never rushed, you're allowed to enjoy your meal because it isn't about turning over tables. And if you enjoy High Tea, this is the place. All the breads, fillings, desserts (chocolate mousse, lavender brownies and so much more) are made from scratch. Everything is beautifully presented and they have excellent French Champagne. It just doesn't get any better. I urge you to call Le Bistro and book a reservation, you won't be disappointed. It's not what you think French food is, heavy sauces etc., it's fresh tasting and wonderful. Even the water is beautiful and great tasting. And ask for Jason, he's my favorite food server. more

Fabulously FRESH French - not 5/4/2007

Most will agree - I am a ?picky eater? (VERY) - so going out to eat with me can be a REAL experience for friends and family. I have been to Le Bistro now seven times, and each time I find more and more that I LOVE and which I can easily RAVE about. Pros: Fresh, flavorful food, Nice variety of dish selection, Quality preparation Cons: Parking for handicapped more

Not recommended 2/18/2007

My wife and I decided to go out and try something new -- Le Bistro in Walnut Creek. Here was our experience: Setting: we were seated next to the door and when I say next to the door I mean too close to the door. In fact, this table was too close to everything, every time the waiter squeezed by me he bumped my back. We moved the table closer to the window and the bumping stopped. The service was poor for the price or at any price really, ie I had to request multiple times to get more water, bread, butter, and I was served the wrong glass of wine. But we were out to have a nice night, so I said nothing and it was fine. But, this was the topper of the evening. My wife ordered a scallop dish, which had good flavor, but of the three scallops served on the plate, one was very tough and inedible. I spoke to our waiter who then spoke to the owner Kathleen and we were told that they would not fix or do anything to fix the problem. I am sorry but even Taco Bell fixes a problem with a meal. I then spoke to Kathleen, the owner, and she again informed me that she and her husband had discussed it and that they were not willing to fix the problem?these were ?Diver?s Scallops? she said, and ?they just come up that way?. This was a $24 entree. As they are not willing or able to vouch for the quality of their food, I would not recommend this place and will never go back again. Too bad I was hoping to find another place to enjoy quality time with my wife, but this is not it. The only reason I am writing this review, is that I cannot believe that these owners treat first time customers like this. I guess they have enough business and do not need any new customers. If you are looking for some place new try someplace else. more

fine food, fine service 3/10/2006

We were looking for an interesting little place to have a nice meal and found it in Le Bistro. The wait staff was super friendly with just the right amount of attentiveness. The food was great, if a bit rich, but hey, its French. Pros: friendly, food Cons: ambience more

Superb!! 11/3/2005

Le Bistro is a highly recommended restaurant by myself and my husband. We had the best French onion soup here. Kir Royal was fantastic. Service was great, not pushy, nor lack of service. I like that they care for all the details for all customers. I was very impressed even when I was drinking the water. I truly recommend this place to all my friends and family. Pros: Good service, Good food, Good kir royal Cons: Pricy more

Healthy & Inexpensive Lunches 6/10/2005

Most think of french food as expensive & fattening. Not the case at Le Bistro where I recently enjoyed a wonderful lunch. Choices range from quiche with salad, soups, 5 or so different salads-$8, a sandwich of the day and tender free-range meat. My friend and I shared a fabulous Beet Salad with strawberries, orange segments and topped with feta cheese. Next came my One Dish Wonder -$17. That day they offered squash soup, chicken with mustard sauce and dessert, the Chocolate Mousse My friend had the beef tenderloin which was so tender it was unbelieveable. Everything is so fresh, flavorful and the french music makes you feel as if you're on vacation in France. Our waiter was helpful explaining the menu and the wine in this charming restaurant. He told us about their Wine Tastings on certain Saturday afternoons. We signed up! Great food and a wonderful dining experience. Pros: food, french wine, ambiance more

I guess we did not deserve good service.... 6/9/2005

After having read all of the reviews of this restaurant I was very disappointed. We heard that the husband and wife team made it a very pesonal dinner. Our waiter snubbed us. Their was no value, and as the next table chummed it up with the owners we sat and waited and waited for our food. The food was good-but not worth the money or the rating. My meal was extremely rich yet the scalloped potatoes lacked flavor. For an expensive weeknight dinner, I really expected to walk away with a ""new place"" for my husband and I to go for the occasional special night out . Definitely not for the 20-something crowd. We'll keep looking... more

not the same! 4/1/2005

If you are looking for great food, wonderful atmosphere and personality go to Le Bistro. Kathleen and Jean Paul are able to bring the warm charm of the french riviera to WC. They invite their clients to get to know them and their love of food and wine. Merci beaucoup. more

Absolutely Wonderful 3/28/2005

From the moment you walk in, you are greeted by the warm and welcoming owner. The atmosphere is fabulous. Great decor, lighting, and ambiance. The staff is very helpful. But most importantly, the food is amazing. So many creative selections and it caters to everyone's taste buds. Whether you love meat, or stick to only vegetables, you're in luck. The food is fresh, full of flavor and the presentation is wonderful. Make sure to save room for dessert! It's a very intimate setting yet it's welcoming to a family. I highly recommend Le Bistro. It's easy to get to and there is plenty of nearby parking. more

Delighful Bistro 3/23/2005

What a find this place was. Thank you Citysearch. I'm not sure what the draw is to this place for me, but I keep going back (and I live in SF). First of all, it's a very warm and welcoming restaurant. The service is terrific, the atmosphere is very romantic and comfortable. The food, oh, the food. The lamb dishes are my favorite, and Ive also enjoyed the wrapped chicken in florentine. Everything is so fresh. They also have a good but not great wine list. If you live in Walnut Creek, your lucky. If not, make the trip...you won't be dissapointed. more
