Best Mexican food and great atmosphere 9/23/2010

We have been anxiously waiting for Las Alamedas to open and it certainly was worth it! My wife and I shared the Ceviche for our appetizer and it was delicious. For our main courses, she had the Pontchartrain snapper and I had the Tres Caballeros. We thoroughly enjoyed the food and the beautiful atmosphere. Our waiter was very knowledgeable and suggested the best desert that's to die for but I can't remember the name for the life of me, but I will definitely have to find out what it is the next time we visit. more

Very unpleasant experience 9/20/2010

I couldn't agree more with the other review, after months Of waiting the big opening in La Centerra, it was very disappointing the over priced menu that doesn't include anything on it for kids, the food wasn't what I expected, and the service couldn't be worst. more

NOT family friendly, awful food, way over priced, cramped 9/17/2010

I guess the title of this review says it all, but I'll go into detail. more

Too bad it closed 3/31/2009

Their website states that after 28 years they couldn't agree on a new lease and are looking for a place to relocate to. I tried calling them, but the number has been disconnected. I took my family there for Easter brunch the past 8 years, and we always enjoyed it. I was disappointed that last year they began taking a $100 deposit for your reservation. Apparently they'd had so many cancellations that they were losing business. Guess we'll have to find a new place for Easter... Pros: Excellent Brunch Cons: Deposit for a reservation? more

Fabulous Food 12/16/2008

WHAT AN EXCELLENT PLACE TO CELEBRATE A BIRTHDAY. YOLANDA FROM CHILDREN'S COLLECTIONS AND HER STAFF H HOSTED A GATHERING HERE FOR FRIENDS BIRTHDAYS. 12 girls. EXCELLENT FOOD, EXCELLENT STAFF, 5 STAR FOOD AS WE ALL HAD DIFFERENT APPETIATES, Pros: Good parking Cons: Make Reservations more

Overpriced, subpar quisine, dirty old furniture, very dark in bar area 10/7/2008

I've been going to this place for over 1o years but lately things are not going so well. It was always more expensive than your usual restaurant, with dishes from $15 up to $40. I've ordered pretty much everything on the menu and was usually very well prepared. Pros: The building itself Cons: Everything else more

will not be visited again 5/1/2008

I have admired the restaurants outer apearance for some time, but after my experience I must remember ""all that gliters isn't gold"". Pros: Ambience Cons: Poor customer service more

Would visit many more time....regardless of the other reviews 4/11/2008

I went last week with my boyfriend on a sunday night and had a nice dinner. Great food with a nice view. Its a rustic style place but really charming. The server was decent. The only thing i didnt like was the drink glasses were small, its like 3 gulps and its gone and your left waiting for the server to come refill it. I had the Pollo Alcapulco which was fantastic!!! I highly recommend that dish. The portions were nice and we left satisfied with plans on returning again. Pros: Nice scenary, Great food Cons: Small drinking glasses more

Old and Funky 2/14/2008

My boyfriend made reservations for us at 8:30 and we only arrived thirty minutes early (the place was empty!) and the hostess made it seem like we had to wait to be seated. Then it took over five minutes for our waiter to even acknowledge us but maybe that was due to us being seated in the back corner! Pros: View of trees outside Cons: food and ambience more

""Entertainment"" Ruined Experience 12/10/2007

The table side ""entertainment"" ruined our evening. Las Alamedas was selected for a business dinner, because the dining room was expected to be quiet and enable dinner conversation. Cons: Entertainers hustling for tips ruined night. more

Best Tex-mex in Houston hands down 3/10/2006

Beautiful restaurant with great service and by far the best tex-mex I have had in Houston. I took my girlfriend to Las Alamedas for her birthday and she's very particular about tex-mex, since she was raised on it. She agrees that this is the best in town. Everyone from valet to the waiter were very friendly and provided great service. Finally, the food was great. With so many tex-mex restaurants in Houston, it was hard to say which one stands out among such a huge crowd. That was until I came to this restaurant. It's simply the best at any price. Pros: Best TexMex in town, Prompt Service more

The best Mexican restaurant on the planet 11/20/2005

Growing up in Houston and moving away has put me on a constant quest for great Mexican food. Although my favorite is Tex-Mex, Las Margaritas would probably be best described as authentic Mexican food, which is very hard to find North of the border. The front, bar-area is very impressive and will make you feel as if you have been transported to Spain. In the dining area, there are floor to ceiling windows, where you gaze out on a serene view of lush green vegetation. My waiter was from Mexico City and knew the menu very well. I had the Red Snapper, which was incredible, and a corn and avacado soup, which was also delicious. The chips are thin and crispy and the salsa is warm and delicious. I'll continue my quest, but so far this is the best mexican restaurant that I have found. Enjoy! Pros: Exquisite food, Beautiful view Cons: Not cheap more

Don't watse your time or money... 7/14/2005

The service was slow. The food was below average, and over priced. Looking at the menu prices are expensive, but I thought oh well the food must be really good. That was a mistake. There were three of us dining, one from out of state. What a way to welcome an out of state guest, bad Mexican food. I would rate the food the worst I have ever had. We have went to happy hour before, that was good.We will not be going back. more

MEXICAN FOOD WITH CLASS 10/17/2002

On our first visit, four years ago, we were surprised to find a beautiful hacienda style building housing the best mexican restaurant we have tried in the US. Having travel to Mexico several times, for business and pleasure we are familiar with that country's wonderful cuisine, and Las Alamedas compares with the best. We have since become regular customers. Pros: Great bayou view, Best margaritas, Best Sunday Brunch more

Uniqueness 10/2/2002

I found out that Las Alamedas is a truly Mexican Food place. A unique atmosphere. Mexican dinning with style. Not a ""taco stand for sure nor Tex-mex either. It reminds me an old rich Hacienda during the 1800's and a charming place to be. I have been in Mexico City and I can compare it with Las Ma?anitas in Cuernavaca or Ex Hacienda de Tlalpan both enchanting places as well. Price is right and great Music as well. Pros: great food, great location, good service Cons: not open for breakfas, No cathering service more

Good place 9/12/2002

This is a great place. Good food, service, atmosphere, and service. more

This place is the BEST! 8/2/2002

The margaritas are very tasty and quite strong. The food is excellent, doubtlessly the best Mexican in Houston. The only drawback is the price tag: about double your normal chips-n-salsa experience, but well worth every cent! more

Amazingly True Mexican Food 7/17/2002

This is by far the best real Mexican food that can be found in Houston. Being Mexican myself i aknowledge the difference between Tex Mex and truly Mexican food and it can be found in this restaurant. Las Alamedas has a wonderfull staff and a great romantic, high class atmosphere. Dining here for years i can tell you that from the menu you cant go wrong on anything. Pros: clasy more

Way Overrated! 6/23/2002

I have eaten here twice now. I was willing to ignore my first bad experience given the overwhelming reviews this place constantly keeps receiving. My second experience was no different. The food is OK, but in no way a top 10 Houston restaurant. The menu and combinations are promising, but the delivery is quite disappointing. Service is not attentive and slow. If anyone who loves Las Alamedas wants to experience great interior Mexican, they must make time to visit Fonda San Miguel in Austin, where nationally renowned dishes live up to the hype. Unfortunately, Las Alamedas in my mind is just hype. My only guess as to its popularity after eating here twice now, is that the ambiance and ""being seen"" here deceives people into thinking the food is better than it really is. Pros: Ambiance Cons: Service, Food more
