Great old landmark 7/5/2006

Excellent spot to see a movie. This place has so much charm and ambience that it's hard to stay away from here. I've been going here for movies since 1988, and I prefer it over most other theatres (and I live in Tacoma!). It's been through it's share of ups and downs since then....ahh..how the U District changes so! I am thrilled to see certain movies come here, and I'm even more thrilled that it has stayed open and that people support it. This is a unique place to see a movie (balcony and all). I don't know if they still show the Rocky Horror Picture Show at midnights on weekends anymore, but if they do, you HAVE to go! SOOO worth whatever it takes to get there! more

I love this theater 3/10/2006

When I first moved up to Seattle I lived on Broadway and would go to this theater every weekend. A couple of years ago it was pretty run down and dirty but I still loved it then. Its interesting because the people who go to this theater are really awesome. The audience is always getting into the movie and you feel like you are apart of a whole group. THe theater recently went through renovations and the murals are really nice to look at. more

Neptune Theater... #14 on MovieFone, #1 in My Heart. 2/27/2006

Like most Landmark Theaters, The Neptune is way more appealing and interesting than the behemoth chain theaters found on every corner from here to Suburbia. I have a soft spot for The Neptune in particular, as it was the first movie theater I patronized upon moving to Seattle. The single screen theater has old school appeal and a nautical theme, a tasty concession, lots of free indie film literature, and a delightful balcony I've never been able to resist. I would issue a warning regarding a slight stuffiness to the top tier, however that impression is probably always skewed by my consumption of a near industrial sized box of Dots. Charming. more

Nice older theatre 12/29/2005

The Neptume is a fun place to see a movie. The staff are usually fun and polite. And the crowds are usually great. This is the theatre to see older films in and many times you can even see newer ones. Go and look at the architecture inside...it is great more

I really like this theatre because it offers more than the average theatre does. The staff are really nice, not like the other movie theatres where people have worked there too long and are burnt out. The staff there dress up for different movie releases and they have a good time. The theatre is never too crowded and I really enjoy the sounds and arts there. more

Great Atmosphere! 9/15/2005

Going to the Neptune feels like more of an outing than going to the big chains. It captures what I think going to the movies used to be like in the "good old days." More glamorous. Since it's in the University District, the crowd is a little more rowdy, which is a ton of fun. The movies they play are usually more entertaining than mainstream ones, but they also show lots of the big shows. more

Classic indie theatre: cool atmosphere, condescending staff 8/20/2005

I love places like the Neptune—faded glory movie palaces that have been reborn as showplaces for independent film. With it’s good selection of films, mythological/nautical theme, chairs that really aren’t that hammered and beer wine at the snack bar, this place has it all. Even the belittling hipster arthouse theatre staff. But hey, it comes with the territory. There are also special events from time to time—cult hero Bruce Campbell was there recently for a book signing and screening of his low-budget horror directorial debut. more

Love the Details in the Theatre 8/20/2005

This is another great place to watch the movies that never make it to the big chains. The Neptune is older, but not so that it makes you uncomfortable. It has an elegance to it. Check out the Ocean-themed ceiling work in the theatre and you'll see what I mean. I really like that the concession stand has a few alternatives to pop and popcorn. Overall, a theatre that I don't mind spending 2 hours in at all. more

Classic style 8/18/2005

The Neptune personifies how a business can successfully use heritage architecture to their benefit. The Neptune is a work of art in itself. The Greek God Neptune is a theme that is exploited in a way that no theater would exploit a theme in our day, with paintings and carvings integrated into the architecture. The staff appears to be students, who are clearly not working a corporate image, which is refreshing. Furthermore, the candy is mostly chocolate, and they give you water for free. It is just one of those theaters that cares about movies and is not bent of profit. Which is nice. more

Great place to see a loud Hollywood film 8/18/2005

I like the Neptune. They show the latest and greatest Hollywood product in a great space that exudes character. The screen is nice and big, and the sounds system is loud. Why do so people flock to the local multi-plex when your movie experience can be enhanced by seeing a movie in an actual theatre, not a tiny box. Parking can be a bit scarce, but the plethora of great eating spots nearby helps make up for the hassle of finding a parking spot. more

First-Run Fun 8/17/2005

The Neptune usually opens large first-run movies. It has a large single auditorium. There are great prices on snacks, film magazines to read while you're waiting and lots of convenient validated parking. The staff is friendly, and the films they show usually are better than average, but that's just my take. It is second favorite in Seattle after the Egyptian. more

Great Old Local Moviehouse 8/17/2005

Catching a flick at the Neptune is like taking a pleasant stroll back in time. This is a pretty old theatre with curtains and a balcony, a well maintained relic from a very different time with a very different attitude about movies. All in all, this is a nice place to catch a flick. Prices are reasonable, probably a little cheaper than the mega multiplexes. Plus the theatre is in a great neighborhood with cheap eats all around. The sound is usually fairly crisp, but it won't blow you away. Picture quality is on par with what you would see in most theaters these days. more

The all encompassing mega movie theater experience has seemly taken over America. Here in Seattle we are blessed to have not one or two but over six movie theaters that show a plethora of movies from all over the world. The Neptune theater is one of many that makes this one of the best cities in the country to watch a movie. While The Neptune is slightly rundown, the snack food and popcorn are very good and the staff is helpful. The Neptune is a historical building as well so when you go inside be sure to check out the decor. more

A delightfully-retro neon sign is the first clue that watching a film at the Neptune Theatre is bound to be different from any visit to your ordinary movie theatre. Conveniently located near the University of Washington, the Neptune is a smart spot to see everything from an independent art film, to an informative documentary, to the latest box-office hit. more

Neptune Theatre 8/16/2005

The Neptune is, simply put, a great theatre. It has balcony seating, fabulous decor, cup holders, and comfortable seats. The sound and picture quality is comparable to any other movie theatre, and going to the Neptune makes a trip to the movies special instead of McDonald's-like. My only complaint is that only the first showing on weekdays is a matinée and they don't offer a student discount of any sort, so to get a bargain you have to go early. Otherwise a great place to catch a flick. more

The Neptune Theatre 8/16/2005

This has to be the best theatre I've been to in the U district. The theatre is huge, it even has a balcony. I've seen a few movies here, Batman begins stands out because of how big the screen was. The popcorn is great, and they even have alternative flavors (not just the regular salt and butter). The sound at the Neptune is fantastic and I've never had any problems with the staff. more

movies without the mall 8/3/2005

This theatre is a much better experience than going downtown to emerse yourself in that scary atmosphere. The parking is about as difficult as either, but the crowd is a much better one. if you feel adolescent going to the mall for the evening try the Neptune instead. they have nice theatres, the seating is fairly comfortable and they seem to choose good movies. Popcorn is as expensive as anywhere, as are the tickets, but that doesn't seem to vary much no matter where you go these days. clean bathrooms and a happier staff than other places, this is a good choice if you don't mind the university district. Festivals often come to this thatre also. more
