Thiefs at Century Ballys Health Club 1/15/2009

My cell phone was stolen at Bally's Health Club at Century Mall. The staff is unhelpful and unconcerned. There are a lot of lowlifes that attend that health club. Please don't be mistaken that it is an issue of race because the club is majority white. It is an issue of morals. Watch your belongings. Do not turn your back for a moment! Pros: a lot of equipment Cons: your personal posssesions most likely will be stolen more

THE CHICAGO HEALTH CLUB THAT LEAVES YOU STRANDED 2/28/2008

My daughter belongs to this gym. This evening someone broke into her locker and stole EVERYTHING--her coat, cell phone, socks. keys, duffel bag-and the club did nothing to help her. They may not be able to stop thieves from joining-but they did nothing to help her when she discovered her empty locker-she had to walk 7 blocks home in a spaghetti strap top, with no socks, in 20 degree weather. She will most probably be sick tomorrow, and will miss a weekend of work. You would think they would care enough to get her something warm to wear, or call a cab, or give her a lift. Their total lack of concern has made me change my mind about joining the club in my area- the one in Tinley Park. I don't think it's unreasonable to expect at least a little kindness by the employees. I'm really upset. I want nothing to do with this company. \r \r IT HAS BEEN A YEAR-THIS CLUB HAS NEVER RESPONDED TO MY COMPLAINT-NOT A GOOD IDEA TO JOIN THIS CLUB IS IT??????? Cons: no parking, uncaring staff, thieves for customers more

scammed by representative beware contract! 12/13/2007

Was scammed!! I came into bally's with a 2week free trial pass. One of the representatives told me to come into the office for info (it's part of the free trial). But he then asked for my name, number, and credit card number! I told him I wasn't interested in signing up until my 2weeks- and he said he wouldn't charge it until I decided. I called my credit card jcompany ust incase because I thought it was fishy and it was charged! I can't believe full grown adults can lie to your face and charge people like that. wow! Cons: false advertisement, pushy sales representatives, contract more

If I could give 0 stars I would 8/29/2007

This is by far the worst gym I have ever belonged to. The only reason people go here is because of the location. Machines are constantly broken and take forever to be repaired, the staff is so beyond rude I have no idea why they are paid, and it is a dirty mess. There is dust everywhere, no cloths to wipe off machines after use, and I will not even go into detail about what the women's lockerroom looks like. One morning I went to work out early and the employee did not even show up until 615 am (the club opens at 530 am) with no apology or explanation. Basically if you want a good workout, do not join this gym. I would recommend paying the extra money to go elsewhere- I would but my contract does not expire for 2 months and after that I will never set foot there again. The lazy staff probably wouldnt help you sign up anyways...they are too busy reading magazines and strolling around the gym talking to each other. Pros: Location Cons: Everything!! Terrible place to work out!! more

Horrible gym! 6/6/2007

This is the worst gym ever. The place is filthy (creepy crawlers in the women's locker room whose name rhymes with ""coaches"" [citysearch won't let me type it]- on three separate occassions), rude staff (that guy who works the front desk in the mornings who is all attitude and no service), weird people (the guy who wears boxer briefs as workout clothing) and shotty equipment makes this gym a huge waste of three years of my time and money. The machines are always breaking (and not promptly repaired). There are no free weights available under 10 lbs. unless you ""check out"" one set at a time from the front desk (this makes an effective free weight workout almost impossible for a woman). The locker rooms are disgusting. The floors are dirty and garbage is left behind. The staff is lazy (with the exception of a few nice dedicated trainers, I never see anyone working...they all just stand around and talk - cleaning staff included). The trainers as a group are not very qualified. Most of them come and go (there is a high trainer turnover here). Only a few have been there the whole three years I have been working out there. Most of them have not chosen training as their career but do it as a side thing (getting certified to train is NOT hard. Most real trainers have many certifications, specialties, and often college degrees in body-oriented fields.\r \r Long story short - this Bally's stinks, even as a place to go do a hard work out with no frills. Pros: Location - only gym within walking distance Cons: EVERYTHING ELSE more

Ballys=Bad Idea 1/11/2006

I have been a member for 6 months. This gym is very crowed. Expect long waits for equipment and some of Chicagos weirdest people. No wonder why there is a security guard in the mens locker room. Take you hard earned money elsewhere. Pros: Cheap, Cheap, Cheap Cons: Bad music, Crowed, Very crowed more

Awesome Trainers! 9/21/2002

I agree with the previous poster. I have been working out at this Bally's location for about 6 weeks with a member of their personal training team (Greg). He is awesome, very knowlegable and supportive. He also knows when to push you and when you really aren't having a great day and need to not push so hard. I'm very happy with my results so far. (Down to a size 8 from 14!) Other staff members here have been helpful as well. Very friendly. Pros: nursery for kids, good value Cons: music stinks!, no free parking more

People! We're talking about trainers! 9/16/2002

These other reviews didn't answer the question which was about personal trainers...so I will! I have been working out with a personal trainer from this Bally location and LOVE it! I go consistently everyday and some of the motviation comes from working with a knowledgeble trainer who seems to care about helping me acheive my goals. I whole heartedly recommend working out with a Bally personal trainer from the Century Mall location. Pros: great location, great staff, cute guys Cons: sucky music, closes early weekends, HRM not all accurate more

You get what you pay for 5/12/2002

Yikes. Unless you show up at 7am, this place is always so crazy packed it's insane. Facilities are good and staff is friendly enough, but you have to fight other people for weights. Membership is super-cheap (less than $40/month), but they reel you in for a 3-year contract. It's like some hellish version of the Columbia record & tape club. Pros: good facilities, convenient location, cheap Cons: no perks, always crowded more

    Most Ballys stick to the basics for their design. Televisions broadcast silently above multiple rows of cardio machines; mirrored walls act as the primary decorative components....
