Diverse Entrees, Delectable Desserts 8/20/2010

Kramerbooks and Afterwards Cafe is a great, unique-to-DC spot that I like to take all my visiting friends and new DC residents to. The place has a great vibe, thanks to the cute bookstore that takes up the front half of it; the back half with the restaurant and bar is always bustling and lively. Every dish, either sweet or savory, that I've eaten at Afterwards has been delicious. They run a bit expensive than other options in the Dupont area, but where else can you find burgers and lamb tagines in the same spot? Speaking of, the lamb tagine is excellent, with tender pieces of lamb and vegetables stewed in a lovely broth served with couscous. Their butternut squash ravioli is excellent as well, slightly sweet but buttery with a light oil sauce. Don't skip on dessert here, either - every pie and cake I've had is awesome (especially the double chocolate - chunks of brownie and chocolate truffle in chocolate sponge and mousse cake). more

Good place for happy hour 3/8/2010

The Afterwords Cafe at Kramer Books is a great place to go when all of Dupont is packed during happy hour and you just don't feel like dealing with crowds. While the tables are a bit close together, there are some spots inside the cafe that offer some room. There is also an outside patio that is conducive to people watching or just chilling with a book. They have some good selections of beers on tap and prices are reasonable. Pros: Surprisingly deep beer selection Cons: Appetizers a bit weak more

My go-to spot in Dupont 2/3/2010

Kramerbooks is my go-to spot whenever I'm in Dupont. The menu features a variety of food and something for everyone in your party, the bookstore is a great place to hang out and browse while you're waiting for your table. You can't really go wrong with their brunch menu- fresh sweet bread and jam, coffee and orange juice all come complementary. I always stick with the whole-wheat waffles because they're delicious, but if you like eggs and breakfast meats like bacon and sausage, they've got that too. Pros: unique setting, great variety of food, bookstore Cons: usually a wait, cramped seating more

Late Night Kramer Luvin 1/18/2010

Late Night Eats and Brunch at Kramer Books - It's a rare day when a man can role into a new city and already have a book store named after him. That probably means nothing to the rest of you, but it was huge for me. The brunch here is pretty darn good, served up with all sorts of muffins and coffee and junk. Plus they're open to serve dinner and dessert super late. Pros: Good Desserts and a Pretty Wonderful Brunch Cons: Not Incredible more

Not a big fan of the food 1/15/2010

The thing about Kramer is the set up and location. If it's cold outside and you don't want to wait outside of the Diner for late night eats, you can browse the book store at Kramer while waiting for a table. The food isn't so great, but if your drunk and hungry it won't really matter. The portions are large, but the seasoning is just off. I've been a couple of times and just feel its a bit overpriced and not that tasty. Pros: Great book selection & open late night Cons: Foods not so great & a bit pricey more

Oh How do I love Thee? 11/11/2009

Let me count the ways... OMG!! if I were to live only 1 more day and I could go any place for like lunch (giggle) or dinner. This would be one of my places. Have been a patron of Kramer's for over a decade now. Anytime I am in DC (which used be to be on the regular) I would make my way here for lunch and dinner. Centrally located in Dupont Circle easy to get to by the Metro or foot! They are open 24 hours on the weekends AND the menu pairs your food selection with wine suggestions okayyyy? Don't let the outside of the place talk you out of sitting your arse down and ordering because if you do you have just missed out on a INCREDIBLE food experience and your palate will be PISSED! Now on to my review... Butternut Squash Ravioli (shaking head) mmm hmmm is the BOMB!! Open Faced Steak sandwich with bleu cheese and carmelized onions... Crazy delicious. Excellent Wine list and being that I reside in California I am always impressed by their selection. In fact I found a very nice crisp (not to sweet) Riesling here from "Hyatt Vineyards" out of Washington State. Liked it so much I ordered a case when I returned to the West Coast! HA how is THAT for obsessed =} Service can be "sketchy" meaning not always attentive (depends on the volume of tables they have been sat - is the LIE I tell myself often) but really kewl vibe and the bookstore is a plus (as I am a voracious reader) desserts are consistently pleasing to the eye and judging by the way people order I would say rather popular I do recall once a friend of mine (a chick) got a Chocolate Banana cake we went 2 nights in a row for her to get this dayum dessert that is how good it was! Who am I fooling I went back for the same order of Ravioli LOL Respectfully Reviewed Pros: Variety of menu, wine list, desserts Cons: Tight Seating, Can be cold out on patio area more
