GREAT restaurant - one of my favorites, but burned today! 3/30/2009

Note to diners - this is one of my FAVORITE restaurants in Austin, but today, 3/30/2009, Koreanas suffered from a huge fire. Pros: Best Beef Gulgogi in town! Cons: What are the drawbacks? more

Wife said best meal in a long time.... I thought what an incredible Happy Hour deal for the money! 3/10/2009

Wow- I was about to give it a glowing review- then I read the negative review regarding service. Let me just say that if you are trying to split tickets and your total bill during happy hour is $9 and you want to charge that, you should probably stay home. Pros: $5 Happy hour Sushi rolls, great quality for the price Cons: Just beer and wine more

Best sushi restaurant 2/9/2009

Koreana is the best sushi restaurant I've ever tried. Fiesta, Longhorn and Krunchy Kream rolls are fantastic. The fish is so fresh. Beside the food, the interior is gorgeous and romantic. We also enjoy their drink specials which they have every night. You'll feel like royalty after the royal treatment you get from the personel there. more

Bad Service 11/13/2008

The food here is good, but yes, awful service. The waitresses here need to learn about service and personality. The portions could be bigger for the prices they charge. Would not recommend to others. more

Great food, but awful service 7/15/2007

I went to a happy hour gathering with some friends from to Koreana, and while we were all delighted by the menu choices, and happy with the food we received, we had the entire experience ruined by the restaurant's dishonest policies regarding payment. We requested that the check be split, but the waitress informed us she couldn't. Furthermore, if paid part with cash, and part with credit cards, there would be a $15.00 minimum charge on the cards (meaning several of us were forced to leave 6.00 or more tips on about 9.00 worth of food. This wouldn't have been so bad if the waitress hadn't brought us a check that had none of the happy hour discounts on it, and charged full prices for menu items that were supposed to be half-price. She even charged us full tax and tip on the items based on what they would normally be priced. In short they were trying to charge us double what we owed. It took about 20 minutes for us to sort out the prices and the amounts we each owed, and the manager even had the gall to come forcefully ask us how we were paying. So be aware that this restaurant is dishonest towards groups and puts customers second. Otherwise, enjoy the food. No complaints there. more

Great food and atmosphere 12/27/2006

I have been to this restaurant quite a few times and have found it to be outstanding. As a date location on valentine's day, it was beautifully decorated with many roses in addition to their usual orchids. The atmosphere is always lovely and definitely makes you feel like you are in a true asian venue. The food itself is excellent. I have especially enjoyed the eel steak on several occasions, and everyone who I have brought their has been extremely happy with their dish. It is a little bit on the pricey side, but the cost is well worth it if you are looking for a nice romantic dinner or just outstanding asian food in a lovely venue. Pros: Excellent food and service and romantic atmosphere Cons: A bit on the pricey side more

The worst Japanese/Korean restaurant in Austin 9/5/2006

I went for lunch today and ordered Jap Chae (clear noodle dish). It was disgusting; it tasted like it has been in the freezer forever. (Seems like the food has been sitting in the freezer for a long time and some kind of odd smell got into the food.) The veggies and the meat were not fresh and the kimchi that came with the dish was tasteless. Cons: Bad food, not fresh, disgusting! more

Great Korean American 7/7/2006

My wife being Korean and I were impressed. The Service was excellant and the Food was Tasty. The Ambiance was delightful and pleasant. We did not try the Sushi or Sachimi this time around but a Planned ""Next Visit"" is in order. Thumbs Up. Pros: Many Cons: Too few to Mention. more

Very Good Sushi and Nice Atmoshpere 6/14/2006

So I eat at a lot of Austin's Sushi restaurants and Koreana is one of the best in Austin. I thought I would leave an updated review since no one has reviewed them in a while. Koreana went through a low point in 2003-2004 as the owners where trying to run another restaurant. Well they are now back and Koreana is great. The sushi is very fresh and very good. The portions are awesome. Their rolls are creative and tasty and the presentation in awesome! They have updated the décor inside, so don't let the exterior or location steer you away. Pros: Great Sushi, Great Service Cons: Maybe Location more

More Korean than Japanese 7/25/2005

Citysearch has categorized this restaurant as ""Japanese"" - and that can be misleading. To the Japanese the Chinese, ""sushi"" is synonymous with ""nigiri"" and ""sashimi"", both containing raw fish meat and embellishes in the harmony of fish and rice. The type of sushi is a far cry from Koreana Grill's forte. It is a marvelous restaurant for hand rolls and authentic Korean BBQ. The aromatic BBQ smoke may tarry with your clothing. more

Clean your grill 9/29/2004

The pork bulgogi tasted like it was cooked on a dirty grill. You'll know the flavor when you taste it. Atmosphere is much better than a buffet, nice presentation on the food, but ultimately I wasn't impressed with the food quality. Pros: Atmosphere, Presentation more

A Best of Austin 6/19/2003

If you have any appreciation for Korean food as well as sushi, Koreana is a must try! You would never guess it by driving by, but it has also has a really great ambience. The prices are about average for sushi and korean food, the portions are not as big as Korea House, but the quality is equal to or better. Start off with a dragon roll, and then try the bulgogi - I am Korean and I took my entire family there and they said it compared with the best they've had, in Korea and San Francisco. Pros: Taste, Atmosphere, Variety more

good service 2/20/2003

Koreana has one of the best services out of all the sushi places. The soups are good, the sushi is great, and the environment is excellent. more

Stress free sushi-eating 2/8/2003

I go to Koreana strictly for the sushi and rolls. The presentation of the food is excellent and the service is very friendly. What I am really happy about is Koreana's contributions to Upromise. Pros: Freshness of Food, Service, Upromise Contribution Cons: Prices more

The BEST 2/7/2003

Koreana's exceptional service is not intrusive, and the ambience is quiet enough to have a romantic meal in a restaurant where you don't feel rushed. The food is wonderful, and their bar selection has recently broadened! more

A Diner's Delight 12/7/2002

Having never tried Koreana, my girlfriend and I dropped in to sample what they offered. I have to say, I was impressed. The atmosphere is pleasant without being stuffy. The service was above and beyond the call. The waitstaff was courteous and prompt and very attentive. The cuisine is where Koreana truly shines. From bokan to tempura, the fare was outstanding. When Koreana flags an item as spicy, it's not just for show, but at the same time it's not inedible. I favor spicy dishes, and they seem to have it down to an art. Very well prepared. All in all, if in the Austin area, I highly recommend Koreana. more

Best Sushi Restaurant in Town! 11/4/2002

About a year ago, a friend of mine recommended me to go to Koreana Restaurant with my wife since we both are huge sushi fans. My wife and I have been to all of the sushi restaurants in Austin and without a doubt, this restaurant makes the best sushi out of the freshest fish in town! The size of the rice balls are just right and various sauces that top many delicious sushi rolls are also very mouth-watering. Since last year, we have been dining at Koreana everyweek!! Excluding the busy weekend nights, Koreana offers the most romantic and quiet dining experience anyone could ask for. I can't believe we couldn't find it sooner. More people should know about this restaurant. It is truly a rare find. more

This is not authentic sushi. 10/27/2002

This was my worst sushi ever had. The rice was too sweet and mushy. I've had some bad sushi before, but this tops it all. Normally, I go back if the service is good but not this place. more
