Best

The food at Kittichai was sublime. Some of the best food I have ever eaten. My wife had the vegetable stir fry and I had the pork tenderloin. We both ordered the Jasmine rice and ...

Worst

I have enjoyed dinner and drinks here before, but on a recent Friday night I was very disappointed in the attitude at the door. The front door bouncer was holding a people back, ...

great atmosphere 7/23/2004

Walking into the restaurant was almost like walking into Thailand. Beautiful decor. Definitely a place to take a date. The food was so so. The food has potential to be great, but on its first night it was a bit too salty. Maybe give it a few months and the food will be great...the ambiance is already! Pros: atmosphere, service, food presentation Cons: , a little overpriced more

Incredible food... 7/23/2004

While the wait took over an hour (with a reservation!) and the ambience was a little shabby chic., if still hip/romantic...the food was incredible, and well worth the wait! Service is a little clumsy (we had our place setting set and reset for each course) but sweet and friendly, which made up somewhat for the lack of polish. The menu choices were all varied and appealing and the presentation and execution were excellent! Go for the food, but go ready for a wait! Pros: Incredible food, Great Drinks, Good Atmosphere Cons: , Inexperienced Staff more

Wow! 7/9/2004

Wow! unbelievably pleasant surprise. once you've experienced this winner concept, no restaurant in nyc comes close! food is amazing, cocktails spectacular and a friendly priced A quality winelist. service is most pleasant however lacks the routine of a well oiled machine. but the friendlyness of everybody made me totally forget that. in short, possibly the best new restaurant i visited in a while. i'll be back soon. Pros: quality of food, prices are low, friendlyness more

Awesome! 7/8/2004

This is one of the best meals I've had in a long time! The food was amazing, and the prices were definitely reasonable. Beautiful decor too. I can't wait to go back! more

great place, loved the drinks, great looking and friendly staff Pros: trendy, fun Cons: soho garbage more

Great place - but get rid of the bouncer 6/9/2003

I have enjoyed dinner and drinks here before, but on a recent Friday night I was very disappointed in the attitude at the door. The front door bouncer was holding a people back, despite throngs of people leaving and the downstairs bar fairly empty. I got in ahead of my friends, and when I asked the bouncer at the door if my friends could be let in"", he retorted that ""I don't have to answer you, I don't have to tell you, now move out of the way""!!! I know this is a recurring complaint in NY, but the bouncer on the inside was so nice, but the egomaniac at the front door was really ruining the vibe at this place. I'd like to go back - just get rid of that attitude and go back to being an enjoyable place to have a cocktail. Cons: ego-driven bouncer more

Great place to relax 4/17/2003

I use this place to bring my clients for EquityBanker.com after-meetings. The Bar maybe crowded, but delivers a great place to socialize and meet new people. One of the few places in New York to enjoy your self with that type of relax attmosphere. Pros: Attmosphere, Drink menu, People Cons: crowded, noisy more

Cool vibe 2/21/2003

Cool Vibe. Hot looking men and women frequent here. Upscale but not overly pretentious. I go usually on Friday nights and have not been dissapointed yet. Pros: Hot looking people more

Great looking crowd 1/12/2003

What an unbelievable mix of cool! The place looks great, the waitstaff looks great, the drinks were awesome, the DJ rocks. If it had dimmer lights and a little dance floor, it would be the perfect place. Pros: Great DJ, Great crowd Cons: Expensive more

THIS PLACE ROCKS 1/10/2003

This is the best looking bar in the city. The crowd is hip and the waitstaff is great looking! more

Everything and More 11/21/2002

Thom's bar is a great place to meet after work. It's cozy and the crowd is pretty hip. It's comfortable and interesting. However, the service is really slow. So I would recommend just getting your own drinks at the bar. Oh! And get the Lychee martini! Pros: Good Drinks, Nice Decor, Crowd Cons: Service more

great for a date 11/20/2002

I think this is a great stop for a drink when you are on a date. It has a mix of romance, the drinks are very good and it wasn't so packed when we were there that we couldn't find a spot. more

A favorite.. 8/27/2002

Though the crowd may be less glam than expected, it is still one of my local favorites, and I enjoy the atmosphere - inside, as well as on the new rooftop. They'd like to think they were a little more pretentious in their door rules, but I've seen more cheese logs on the rooftop than expected. So the ""rules"" really aren't even necessary. Otherwise, it's a great experience! Pros: atmosphere; view, great music, good, friendly service Cons: see my review! more

Finally a place to look down on SoHo 8/6/2002

Great views and nice surroundings. Long awaited respit for lounging and libations. Definitely worth a trip to 60 Thomson. Remember it's on the rooftop... Ask for the Plum Saki or Watermellon Martini's. Perfect for the warm weather... more

Not Too Shabby! 6/17/2002

Went to Thom's last night. Really liked the setting and the porch out back. Exposed brick and bamboo - very relaxing atmosphere. Drinks were fairly expensive, but what else do you expect? The waitresses are beautiful but so slow it's a joke! The crowd was ok, but a little cheesy for me. more

If you think great Thai food means orchids, sunken pool, attitude, expensive dishes and rude service, then this is the place for you. If you prefer authentic Thai food as well as authentic Thai hospitality, then go with other more impressive choices in Manhattan and Queens. Considering that one of the world's best Italian restaurants outside Italy can be found in Bangkok, we wonder why 60 Thompson could not do better.

Editorial
  • Sleek, hip and exotic, Kittichai feels like a Thai resort in miniature, with candles floating around the pool that's the centerpiece of the dining room. The guests, like those of the Thompson Hotel...
