The quality ingredients that Mickey uses are worth the lunch buffet. I eat lunch here four or five times a month because of the high quality of ingredients used to prepare the mea...

I think the food is pretty good although a little dry for curry in my opinion. However, the guys who work here are odd balls. I went with a friend and the waiter was asking me and...

Rude Manager + Bland Food 5/9/2007

Went for the lunch buffett and found the food to be very bland and the meal to be relatively expensive. If that weren't enough reason to avoid the place, there was an insect in my iced tea! I mentioned this to the waiter and he simply brought me another glass (without an apology). I went to speak to the manager/owner and he said he would get back to me. He never came by my table, so I got his attention on the way out. His response to the insect in the tea was ""that there are 10 million insects in Houston and I am not going to commit suicide over some ""insect"" in your iced tea."" No offer of refund. No apology. Needless to say, I will never visit that restaurant again! more

Bland food 2/6/2007

This is a great example of what an Indian restaurant should not serve, bland food. I didn't finish my entree because it just tasted horrible. The atmosphere is one that emits superiority while the dishes embrace inferiority. If a restaurant has bad food, I don't care about the ""ambience"". The bread was half decent but that's where it stopped. Don't go here for good Indian food, Houston has so much more and better to offer, Pros: bread Cons: food, service more

top-end Indian food 10/22/2006

When I want to impress an outside visitor with some local Indian food (and they're not vegetarian!), I take them to Khyber Grill. We've never gone wrong with any of the food choices there -- everything is just tasty and freshly made. Nice atmosphere, nice patio too, and friendly staff. Pros: authentic Indian food; great ambience more

Clean/Formal/Fantastic! 10/17/2006

I've read a few of these less that stellar reviews and I guess those folks are accustom to a different type of Indian Food. Although it is possible to find ""authentic"" Indian food in Houston, you have to travel outside of the beltway or venture into a shady part of town. Pros: clean, yummu food, upscale Cons: sunny (a little to bright if you sit near a window) more

Best in Houston- 10/4/2006

Since moving to Houston two years ago, I've been saddened to find that there are very few worthy Indian restaurants as compared to Atlanta, GA. I've tried all the usuals in town and the suburbs and even ventured to Hillcroft. A lot of it is supergreasy and overcooked, which is I guess how Texans like things. Khyber is my favorite so far, with quality food that really reminds me (and several other Indians I've spoken to) of what you might find at an Indian's home. It has a very typical north Indian cusine with very fair portions that are well spiced, maybe even too overspiced for the native tongue. The waitstaff is great. I've eaten here with my boyfriend, my family, my friends, and brought my whole office as well, and it's always been great. Pros: traditional north indian menu, friendly and helpful staff Cons: sometimes too greasy. more

Pricey but nice 8/9/2005

My boyfriend and I go to Khyber about once every two months. I recommend getting the Malia Kofta if you are not watching your weight. I haven't found a place that makes it like Khyber does in all my dining adventures. Get their sag paneer and check out their bread (it is the best I have had in houston so far) It is no too thick and not as greasy as other Indian places. The food is pricey and the service is not very good. The waiters tend to pay more attention to large groups and older clients than they do to young couples. Pros: good sag paneer, good kofta Cons: poor service, pricey more

Horrible food, who cares about the rest 6/6/2005

Typical Indian style buffet, except the food is awful. Bland Indian food!?! Didn't think it was possible, you were wrong. Extremely disappointed. Cons: Bland, horrible, Americanized more

Terrible Terrible 3/30/2003

I came here for the lunch buffet with some friends of mine. The food on that buffet could only be called ""Indian for the Novice."" It was utterly bland. And Indian food is never bland. It totally avoided all of the rich spices and character that epitomize great Indian food-- you know-- the food that Indians themselves eat. If you know Indian then don't eat here; you will be disappointed. If you don't know Indian food this is a bland and safe bet, but you'll never understand why so many people love Indian based on what you taste here. Pros: decent date decor Cons: bland bland bland, bland balnd bland more

Consistently Good Food and Service 1/19/2003

I dine here so often that the waiter asks me if I want ""the usual."" Khyber is equal to or better than many of the U.K.'s finest Indian eateries. Try the shrimp vindaloo: pitcher of ice water and fire extinguisher on stand-by. Pros: Excellent Food, Great Service, Good Lunch Buffet Cons: A bit noisy at times, limited parking, average decor more

Best Korma 1/2/2003

Outstanding food and service. Great selection of naans. Best Korma hands down!!!!!!!! more

Wonderful Indian Buffet 12/16/2002

The staff and food are wonderful. Khyber is consistently outstanding for lunch or dinner. The lunch buffet is the best and most consistently reliable that I have found near my work place. The ambience is casual, comfortable, and enjoyable consistantly. For a casual, excellent lunch, that is as quick or relaxed as you want, Khyber is the place. The desert is wonderful. I go today. Pros: desert more

They go the extra mile! 11/26/2002

Khyber Grill served as my first introduction to Indian food and I haven't been able to stay away! Staff was friendly and helpful in choosing my dinner. The curry was delicious, all ingredients were fresh and the restuarant was extremely clean. My father's car was wrongly towed from the parking lot and the manager even advocated on our behalf with the tow truck company! I'll be back. more

Great food 8/26/2002

Excellent food, very good service. The mango ice cream was a great way to end the meal. more

Great Food - Overpriced 8/20/2002

I went for lunch on a Tuesday. The service was quick and responsive, nice atmosphere. The buffet was 10-12 varied dishes: salad, rice, six different types of meat sauces: chicken, beef, lamb, vegetarian. All were excellent. Desert was a coconut rice pudding. The bill was $10.99. And parking is a little tight due to the location (Kirby and Richmond). I recommend it, but I will probably not go back soon as I'll be looking for a cheaper place with the same quality. more

Outstanding Lunch Buffet 5/25/2002

Quite simply, Khyber is consistently outstanding for lunch or dinner. The lunch buffet is the best and most consistently reliable that I have found in Houston. I have been going there for years, and the waiters and staff have largely remained the same. The ambience is open, casual, comfortable, and enjoyable. The restaurant is alway in top shape, with no delayed care and good attention to detail. For a casual, excellent lunch, that is as quick or relaxed as you want, Khyber is the place. Pros: waiters and staff, food, ambience more
