I'm obsessed with the pancakes here! I of course do buy their pancake mix at the grocery store also but...

Best Blueberry pancakes 1/17/2006

Awesome Pancakes, eggs, and fresh fruit. I love going to eat at this place. There is a down home wonderful atmosphere. Pros: Pancakes are awesome Cons: Long wait for tables more

Duh... truly Austin 6/8/2005

I love all the different Kirby Locations. Even though I love it there, I will agree the service is slow, the wait staff are all typical austinites. I know they are paid to serve us,but the serving methods go right along with Austins ""groove"". If you wanna get in, eat, and get out, go somewhere else. If you've been out all night, wanna nice place to study and drink coffee, or just go and chill/relax with small or large group of friends Kirby is the best. Sundays, early afternoons are the worst time, as with most restaurants during the church rush. The food is good and the atmosphere is soooo very chill. If you aren't uptight or in a rush..... whats the big problem with spending more time talking to your group while waiting for food, and of course eating the Kirby Queso mmmmm...... Pros: Great Food!, convenient locations, an Austin classic Cons: "less than" service more

Seriously - I just don't get it 1/29/2005

I've been to this place three times now, and have yet to have a positive experience. Service was also lethargic, the food was always bland and dry. Especially bad for large groups. Pros: Close to campus Cons: Mediocre food, Slow service more

Mmm mmm breakfast... 6/15/2003

Great coffee, amazing omelettes, fresh juice and gingerbread pancakes to die for. Not the place to take a first date but perfect for a lazy Sunday. Pros: Great breakfast Cons: Unattentive service, Ambience more

Blueberry Blues 4/2/2003

If Kerbey Lane would pay attention to the simple things, their food and service would improve dramatically. The blueberry wheat pancakes had WAY too many blueberries in them (couldn't taste the pancake batter). The coffee was good but I had to ask for refills on coffee and cream. I ordered the bacon crispy and it came back limp and just drenched in grease. I sent the blueberry pancakes back, ordered biscuits instead and they were wet on the bottom. They charged me for the pancakes anyways and for the biscuits and gravy (never even got the gravy). When I complained to the waitress she absolutely made no effort at all to rectify the situation....gave me one of those sweet blank stares that seemed to imply that she was completely powerless. So, I was forced to make the adjustment on the tip. Pros: Affordable Cons: Food, Service more

Don't go there! 2/9/2003

I like the food - it's just about everything else that is bad about all of their locations. Dirty, sticky tables, waitstaff that takes forever to ask for a drink order, and the long, long wait to even get in the door! I don't understand how these people can even be on the best of list when most of the reviews have been negative! Sounds like stuffing the ballot box to me! Just take my advice - Don't go there! Cons: Dirty, Long Wait, bad service more

Wrong you are 1/28/2003

Kerbey Lane is overrated. Too many times the service is poor, the new age techno music it too loud, and the pancakes are burned! Thumbs down in my opinion. Pros: close to campus Cons: no parking, crowded, bad service more

great queso 1/25/2003

Great food but less than stellar service. I've never had them be rude and they always do what you ask eventually, but they're pretty damn slow. The food is really good though, so I can deal with the slowness. Good miags, really good queso. Better pancakes at magnolias. I've only been to the guadalupe location, I hear the original one is better. Pros: good food, open 24hrs Cons: slow as hell more

Kerbey Lane South Rating 1/16/2003

excellent in most respects, homefries are not as good as Magnolia's Pros: 24 hours, senior discount 15%, unusual food Cons: poor seats in booths, sometimes loud music more

Top pancakes! 1/6/2003

It just across the campus and I love to stop by here for a midnight snack when doing an all-nighter! more

I don't think so! 1/6/2003

I found the service to be very slow and the food to be average. more

goind downhill 1/5/2003

When I first moved here I would go to the k- lane on 38th street. It used to have wonderful food. I have seen the k-lanes just get worse as they build more and as the years go on. The k-lane on ""The Drag"" is absolutely horrible (everything from the food to the wait staff). I won't even mention the k-lane on 183. To the owners and managers-if you are going to make it a chain try and put a little more effort into it. Pros: good pancakes Cons: everything else more

Mmm Mmm Good 11/14/2002

best breakfast in town, ecclectic grouping of wait staff, customers and food that seems to draw post-teen Gen-Y's as well as older established conservatives. You can cut the smoke, at times, with a knife, but go with the Migas, you can't go wrong more

VERY Busy Restaurant! 10/31/2002

Though the food is often some of the best available in Austin and the prices are fairly reasonable, be prepared to read the entire newspaper before they call your name from the usually very long waiting list. I LOVE their food, but I'd try to figure out when NO ONE ELSE will be eating and that's when I would go here. If you go at peak times, you will starve before you are seated. Pros: Great food Cons: Very long wait list more

Overrated 10/23/2002

The home of the yuppies in the 1980's, Kirbet Lane Cafe's have continued their downward spiral in quality and originality. I and a friend had breakfast at the 183 location a few months ago. My omelet was overcooked and it's ingredients poorly prepared. The vegetables were chopped into huge pieces making the entire dish difficult to consume and somewhat unappetizing. The restaurant itself had a run down appearance and, combined with the mediocre service, made for an unpleasant experience. more

mmmmm.... Kerby Queso 8/28/2002

The once a month treat I give myself (usually at 4 AM)... KERBY QUESO!!!! The pancakes are good too, but I can never eat anything else b/c I fill up on the queso (but it is soooo worth it). For late night, the Kerby Lane on S. Lamar is the best place because there usually isn't that big of a crowd and the one on the drag usually has a 20-30 minute wait. The service isn't the greatest, but that queso makes up for it! Pros: Kerby Queso, Smoking Sections, Kerby Queso Cons: Crowded, Service more

great experience 8/27/2002

I stopped at Kerbey last night and I haven't been there since a horrible experince a year ago. Last night was a wonderful meal with great atmosphere and outstanding service. The lady who served us was wonderful. I asked her about the new management sign and she said the new manager took over awhile ago before she was hired as a manager/server. She gave us the most wonderful experience ever. I was having a bad day and she turned around to make it better. Someone should let her know she is fantastic and is a definate asset to Kerbey. The food was great and the service even better. Pros: service, food, value more

Pancakes for all! 8/26/2002

Expect bad service at Kerbey. It's almost all the fun of it! Great food in a kitchy house. The pancakes are divine. more

bad stuff 8/25/2002

we sat there for an hour as dozens of others were seated.we had a party of 5,they said policy did not permit them to move tables togather.bull! several large parties emerged from the back room, upon inspection there were no tables in back for parties of their size.when Icomplained the girl in charge threatned to throw us out!As a patron of many dining placec I informed her we had waited an hour and would continue towait, however I will never darken their door or recomend them to anyone Pros: none, none, none Cons: mcDonalds is better, nose rings suck, dirty, dirty, dirty more

Bit of a dive, but the food is divine. 8/18/2002

Kerby Lane Cafe on S. Lamar has a lot of ""character"". I have never eaten there late at night, but at 8:30 on a Saturday morning there was no wait, the service was fast and the food was wonderful. I recommend the Gingerbread Pancakes (I could only make it through one) and a glass of milk. more
