Editorial review from Citysearch 2/15/2013

Went with party of 8 2/14/2013\r Reservation for 6 30PM\r Even at that hour, before any crowds for Valentine's Day, the server started explaining what was NOT available, even from the Price Fix menu. Beef was proudly touted as Prime. A few of us ordered the Prime Rib, it was very far from PRIME. Can't even be sure that it was rib steak; I've had tastier and more tender chuck steaks. The appetizer shrimp salad was some lettuce and pieces of cut up shrimp; not at all satisfactory. Dessert of tart with ice cream was served as Mousse with no ice cream and no explanation even when asked. Fortunately, the evening was nice because of the company but the meal was deplorable and overpriced. I had read the reviews before going but ignored them because we have been going here for years until the restaurant changed hands and this was our first visit since the change. It will be the last.\r Save your money and go elsewhere.\r more

Sexually discriminate 11/28/2011

I went to Kennedy's looking for a Bartending Job. I am a 31 year old female. I was told they don't hire women for bar, only wait staff. I said never? They rudely looked at me and said, ""Do you see any woman behind the bar?"". I looked and saw two old men. I said, ""No"". They said, ""That's because we only hire men. That's who should be at the bar. We want pretty girls, like you, to serve food."" I was appalled, to say the least, and told them they were wrong for doing so before I left. I hope people read this and it discourage others to eat at this ignorant, discriminatory disappointment of an establishment. more

Exceptionally bad 11/28/2011

I went to Kennedy's with a group. I had heard a lot about the history, expecting a good time, and was sorely disappointed. Rude service, nasty waiters, unknowledgeable bar staff. Food was mediocre at best and over priced at that. I will never return and hope that no one experiences the unsanitary, lack -uster time I had there. more

Used to be Great! 11/20/2011

It's a shame what they did to this great restaurant. The old Kennedy's had a small but great menu. They completely changed the menu and got rid of most of old staff. Why call it Kennedy's? The Shepherds pie is no longer made with lamb and is now made with beef, they got rid of the crabmeat stuffed mushrooms which were outstanding and the filet mignon is half the size it used to be and is now drenched with a peppercorn sauce, WHY? We went once after the reopening and will never go again. I used to look forward to this gem of a place more

Horrible people, bad atmosphere 11/19/2011

I have to say how appalled I am by this restaurant. The service was slow and rude. The food was subpar. I suppose I could have gotten through the food alright had the server not forgotten half of my order and fixings. Most of the time you will spend sitting around wondering where your bartender and server are. When you finally receive their attention they are listless, ignorant, and down right uncivilized. Don't be fooled by the look of this place, which seems like a down-to-earth Irish restaurant. I am sure these raving reviews are employees of Kennedys and I will not be returning as they must be spending the bulk of their time online fixing their reviews. Spare yourself the bad evening and go to a real Irish place. more

Absolutely Lovely 9/3/2011

As a recent transplant to NYC from Florida, I've been looking for that great local hang out that will be my home away from home. I've come across amazing places with great craft beer selections but terrible food, decent food but no decent booze, and just good beer. Kennedy's is by far the best mix I could have asked for. The atmosphere is outstanding: casual and comfortable but slightly sophisticated, clean, and homey. My boyfriend and I had a beer at the bar where we were served by an incredibly attentive, very friendly bartender then took our second round to a table where we had dinner. He had French onion soup, the best I've ever tried!, and chicken pot pie, which was also outstanding. I had the Gaelic burger which was served with fries and a pickle. The french fries were nothing special but the burger was outstanding. Perfectly cooked and HUGE. I couldn't finish it actually. Over all, the experience was lovely and I plan to make this a regular spot! more

Great Atmosphere, Brilliant Staff, Fantastic Food 5/12/2009

I stopped in Kennedy's earlier this summer for a pint and to view a Euro Football Match. Had a few pints, some great food - and chatted with several locals and tourists. I've now returned several times. Seamus and Matt are true gentlemen, great hosts and do their best to make you feel at home. Try their Baked Chicken Pie, easily the best I've ever had. Their fish specials and burgers are second to none. Whether you're solo, or want to take the family for a very good, affordable meal - Kennedy's is worth the visit. Pros: Great Food Selection, Pricing & Wonderful Staff more

Best Restaurant and Better Staff in NYC 11/22/2008

Without a doubt Kennedys has got to be the best restaurant from all aspects - be it Star Spotting (Uncle Junior from the Sopranos), Talent spotting (my husband singing!!) or the wonderful food and staff. The Baked Clams and Pate are the best appetisers in the world, as for the fillet of beef ... to die for. Regardless of the quality of the food in Kennedys our commendation has to go to the bar tenders, JP, Conor and the rest. They are the nicest friendliest guys you could ever meet in NYC. Go in once and the next time you visit they will know your order and where you prefer to sit. We have been going into this venue for the last seven years and now when we book a hotel in NY we make sure it is within walking distance to Kennedys. Coming from Belfast it is nice to say that Kennedys is our ""local"" in NY. Enjoy and best wishes to all the guys there. Pros: Couldn't possibly complain - LOVE IT more

Cozy 10/27/2008

The food was good, the atmosphere good. I like the feel and the decor. Felt like a local joint. It got crowded though and there was a wait by the time we left and we were there for a few hours. Wine selection was good. Overall, I was pleased and would go back when I out that way again. more

excellent Irish bar and grill 8/18/2008

I have been here many times, and never disappointed. There are two sections - the bar area and the restaurant, with different menus. Both are good, with the bar menu more informal. Excellent service, and very good beer! This is the kind of place New York should have forever more

Huge Burger, Cold Beer, Friendly Service, Nice Ambiance 4/13/2008

Service was prompt and friendly. The menu very appealing (I had the burger, which was huge and tasty). I found the beer selection more than adequate. Would definitely go back to explore the other menu items. Huge back seating area - much classier than you would expect. Pros: Appealing menu, nice beer variety, manly sized burger, friendly staff more

Great food, great service, very relaxed 10/16/2005

I've been here many many times and tried just about everything on the menu. The quality of the food is top notch. The only thing I wouldn't recommend is the chicken wings...and the steak can be questionable. But everything else on the menu is great!! The service is great, typical Irish charm. Don't be overwhelmed by the crowd in the front of the restaurant, there is a huge back section with a 2nd bar that always has room for more. Pros: Great Food, Friendly Service more
