All the new steakhouses popping up have nothing on Keefer's. In fact, I feel that they are more reasonably priced, the steak was to die for! The portions are huge, the staff does...

Make up your mind 3/5/2003

I was curious as to why there were 2 terrible reviews for this resturant. I can honestly say the service I recieved was very good, the food was terrific and the ambiance was very pleasant. The food is on the pricey side, but I've come to expect that dining in Chicago. I got what I paid for and I didn't leave hungry. I must have been seated at the start of the dinner rush because my waiter neglected to give me the the run down on the evening's specials. The waiter did keep my glass full and didn't hurry me thru my meal. I was seated immediately. The steak was cooked to my preferance and the side dishes were flavorful and not overwhelming. If you're in the area, There are a number of great steakhouses to choose from. I don't think you'll be dissapointed if you choose Keefer's. Pros: Friendly, Good food, Love those desserts Cons: Pricey ($60 to $70) more

Was here on Valentine's Night and was promptly seated even though they were packed. Waitress was a joy to get to know and food was awesome. The Tenderloin Dianne was an excellent appetizer. The bar area is a cool place to hang out. Some people complain about the prices but it is no different than any other hot spot downtown. Pros: Setting, Service more

Great Steak, Hip Spot, Fair Price 2/10/2003

Dined at Keefers on a Thu. night with 6 associates. Colleague and I arrived a little late and missed cocktails, but it was apparent the bar was a place to see and be seen. For a bigcity steak place the menu was fairly priced (not cheap, but reasonable given the fare; steaks and seafood from $24 to $35 and other entres from $14 to $22). Salad, steak, sides and desert were all delicious. Barely used any bearnaise since steak was so flavorful without it. Those who ordered appetizers and seafood also raved. Only downside was the place was packed from time we arrived until we left around 10 pm. This meant it was a little hard to hear my companions at times, and while attentive, the wait staff was spread a little thin. All in all though, a great meal. Will gladly return the next time in Chi-town. Pros: Great Food, Hip Scene Cons: Loud at times, Busy wait staff more

One of the Best 2/4/2003

Keefer's is by far one of the best steak houses in Chicago. The steak I ordered, a New York strip, was one of the best tasting steaks that I've had. The service was great and so were the side dishes. If you're looking for great steak, try Keefer's. You will not be sorry. Pros: great steak, great service, great sides more

The Best Steakhouse in Town 1/13/2003

Be adventurous and try this new guy on the block. Forget about the old Chicago institutions; they've had their day. This is the place for a superb steak (and a great seafood meal as well.) more

Hurrah, Hogan 1/6/2003

Arriving an hour earlier than our reservation, we expected to be seated in the bar, but we were wisked to a table immediately. Our waiter, Eric, appeared, within moments had us relaxed, informed and prepared for a delightful evening. My wife ordered one of the specials, the Duck Confit, and I had set my sights on a filet while making the reservations. Both were wonderfully prepared and presented, and while "Tater-Tots" and "Hogan's Peas" don't sound exciting, I recommend them highly! Chef John Hogan stopped by our table, and upon hearing of our upcoming visit to NY, referred us to four restaurants in Manhattan. Our new favorite, Keefer's, thanks to Chef Hogan and his excellent staff, is at the top of our referral list. Pros: Excellent staff, Tasteful decor more

Best Dover Sole this side of the Atlanti 12/29/2002

We dined at Keefers on a Saturday evening and found the food to be wonderful, the service impeccable, and the ambiance romantic. Our server, Eric, was attentive without being a nuisance. The chef, John Hogan, stopped by our table, not once, but twice to chat and share secrets to his fabulous Hogans peas and pickled garlic cloves from the relish tray. My wife had the steamed Sea Bass in Parchment, an evening special. It was light, delicate and just slightly sweet with the perfect combination of herbs. She said it was absolutely divine. Myself, I had the Dover Sole, which rivaled that which Ive had in London. Done to perfection and served with a brown butter and lemon sauce that was the perfect compliment to the fish. A perfect 10! Pros: Impeccable Service, Wonderful Fish, Attentive Service more

Not the greatest 11/14/2002

Tried Keefer's for lunch and ended up dissappointed. I ordered the ravioli which was very dissappointing. When I order ravioli I usually look forward to the flavor, or stuffed part of the ravioli, not much here, mostly pasta dough and the tomato sauce - that's all it was tomato sauce. My boyfriend ordered the fish and chips, don't expect much fish under all the breading, but if you want thick crunchy breading minus the fish, this is for you. Over-priced and over-rated. Cons: Over-priced, No parking, over-rated food more
