Best

The server was kind and courteous. Our dishes were incredibly prepared. The best sushi I have had in America tried the 8-course special. It was delicious. Love mostly raw fish & K...

We were looking for a nice sushi 'place' and the concierge from the JW Marrio told us about Kaz. It was 20 minutes walk but it was more than worth it. We enjoyed a lot!!!

It was fantastic: service, food, the whole experience. Wonderful food and atmosphere. Misokatsu, Tebasaki are great! And, the Temaki lunch was great! more

I have been frequenting Kaz for 5 years during the school year and will continue to do so as long as I am in Washington. Kaz delivers consistently quality seafood, which is important. I generally order Sushi (maki, nigiri, sashimi), but have enjoyed around 80% of the items on the menu. more

I like Misokatsu lunch box and visit KAZ every Tuesday to have it. I think Kaz is fabulous. The best sushi in the city! more

It was wonderful: thank you to kaz sushi for not batting an eyelash at 2 active young children, and offering their own toys when we had tears. Thanks for the patience you showed and the delightful tastes your artistry allowed them to try. more

Kaz has the finest sushi offerings in DC. You can always count on the fish being top quality, remarkably fresh, perfectly prepped, and connected with some awesome additional flavors. It's been #1 in my book for a LONG time, and will remain that way! more

Exceptional service and wonderful detail with the meal. The sushi was amazing and we were extremely happy with the chef's choices on entree 0011. The Maitre d was exceptionally professional and very accommodating. more

My friend and I had the sushi and sashimi lunch special, and it was simply delicious. The m iso soup more

The service was great. It was at the tail end of a clearly busy lunch service, but our server paced everything very well, and we never felt rushed. We took our time, savored the food, and just really enjoyed ourselves. more

The fish was top-notch. Dinner for two, with a bottle of wine, was about $100. We ordered everything off the special menu (figured it would be freshest). We had the scallop nigiri with an apple reduction of sorts, the mackerel nigiri, a toro nigiri of sorts, two orders of the walu nigiri, and tempura clams with green tea salt, served beautifully in a clam shell. I think it's the best sushi I've had in DC. Everything was fresh and delicious. The WALU was awesome, get it if it's on the menu. I went back a few days later and had the walu nigiri and 2 rolls (one tuna/cuke and one yellowtail/scallion) and thought it as great, and the basic rolls were a reasonable cost (around $5-6), so it doesn't have to be a pricey night. more

I love the innovative sushi menu here. Tasty but not trendy. One of the better sushi meals I've had. more

I visited Kaz last Friday with my friend and another couple. The sushi was pretty good. My friend and my friend's boyfriend claimed to have never had better sushi. We didn't try any of the special rolls, but the nigiri was pretty good and boasted some interesting combinations of fish and sauce. Although it got pretty busy, the service was pretty good and the ambiance was nice. more

Very good sushi...not mind blowing but good and consistent which I find several sushi places lacking. Usually always get the standard rolls - spicy scallop, spicy shrimp, spicy tuna, tuna tartare, spicy salmon and seared salmon belly. The salmon belly is the perfect way to begin this meal...its amazing. Always have the green tea...most of the time they don't charge you for it. more

I took my aunt who was visiting from PA here after reading reviews on Yelp. Great job people! The food and service was excellent! The atmosphere was nice, more quiet than I had anticipated it to be. The seafood was fresh and everything was prepared very delicately. I'm thinking I'll take my parents next time! more

Freshness of the sushi is top notch !! Service is always been great when I have been there !! more

The food here was great! I had three hand-rolls - spicy tuna, salmon avocado, and crunchy shrimp. All of the rolls were great - very fresh. The lunch special also came with a small salad that had an amazing sesame seed dressing and a bowl of miso soup. I thought even the miso soup was above average. The only drawback is that it's a bit pricey - my lunch special was $14.50. more

Kaz is the most consistently fresh and delicious sushi in D.C. Others are good, but fail in one way or another. I have probably been to Kaz 20-30 times. Each time, the fish has been perfectly sliced, served at the perfect temperature, and served without the attitude of undeserving nearby places. Many places get inventive with sushi and lose on quality and authenticity. Not Kaz. The tuna nigiri with truffle and prosciutto-wrapped scallops will make you smile. And try the ice cream. more

I'm a big fan of sushi and I'd say this is one of the best spots in DC and quite authentic. The interior is simple and the staff is very polite. What they lack in creative or fusion-esque combo rolls, such as SEI, they more than make up in quality of fresh fish. You can tell it's high quality food, which makes it that much more enjoyable. Check it out! more

The food was fantastic-- creative and delicious. The atmosphere is serene and quiet. I love this place. more

Excellent sushi but skip the green tea tiramisu. The homemade soy sauce is so good I wanted to sip it straight. more

Editorial review from Citysearch 8/2/2012

The spouse and I opted for the restaurant week dinner menu. We had the yellowtail ceviche and salmon tartar...amazing. The nigiri and maki were just so-so: bland fish, odd texture to the rice. The walu, however, was exceptional. For dessert, we had the espresso tapioca and panna cotta with mango sorbet business; both were surprisingly tasty. more
