Private Spa Experience 8/3/2005

I love this place because it is so under the radar. Most people don't know about the fabulous steam room at Kate's. Make an appointment to rent the room for an hour, bring your favorite products from home and pamper privately. They provide sea salt for scrubbing. It's a huge room with a shower, that could easily fit two people and there is also a resting/changing room available. It's especially nice in the winter for a little warm up. more

    Don't expect fancy spa surroundings: Kate's looks more like a friend converted her living space into a spa with lavender walls, Victorian antiques and a few garage sale furnishings. But don't let the absence of glitz stop you from trying one of the treatments at the hands of capable and friendly aestheticians--and sweating in one of the few steam baths in town.

    The Services
    Try a deep-tissue massage from Shawna. The Honey Body Glow may make you feel like a human granola bar--when a mixture of honey, oatmeal, sesame and sunflower seeds is smeared all over your body--but the result is satiny, soft skin.

    The Details
    Less than some of the upscale spas. An hour massage is $70, the steam bath for one is $20 and a spa package that includes facial, massage, salt glow and a light lunch is $200.
