Best

This place was great. We visited this place last week and it was fun together with my family. The kids were pretty much enjoying watching the show. Definitely we will be back here...

Worst

If you only have limited time to visit the Museum Campus, I would make the Shedd the third stop. The Amazon Rising exhibit is quite nice, but this museum isn't as interesting as ...

Loved the seahorses! 11/14/2005

Wow is a way to sum it all up. On a recent trip to Chicago I wanted to stop by and check out this place. I am so glad I did. I was very impressed at the upkeep of the various aquariums throughout the place. There was a dolphin show that I was lucky enough to see! It was so cool. My favorite part of the entire place was the seahorse exhibit. I never knew that many different kinds of seahorses existed! The gift shop was a great way to end my experience there. I purchased a magnet with seahorses on it and a sweatshirt. I'll definitely go back again the next time I'm in Chicago! more

Great Place To Bring Your Family 10/14/2005

Shedd Aquarium is a Museum with live fish and marine live. They have a variety of fishes from sharks to small fresh water fish. They have a center aquarium Coral Reef in which divers feed them 5 times a day. They also have Oeanarium in which they have Beluga Whales and dolphins in which there are shows with the trainers throughout the day. Excellent place for kids and those who are visiting Chicago. Parking can be difficult to find and parking is usually additional fee. more

Best in the world as far as I know 10/7/2005

It sounds totally counter-intuitive that a land locked city would have an amazing aquarium, but its true! The whales, sharks and dolphin shows are highlights, but they have so many interesting things there, its easy to get lost. Personally, I thought coming to Seattle and being on the Ocean (basically), it would blow away the Shedd, and its not even a shadow as good. This past spring, I was in Sydney and checked out their aquarium, and while better than Seattle, still not as overwhelming as the Shedd. Although, the Sydney Aquarium had an amazing shark exhibit where you would walk "amongst" them in these underwater tubes. Anyway, if you are a tourist in Chicago, or going, definitely don't miss the Shedd. more

Great Place for Family Young and Old 9/2/2005

The Shedd Aquarium is an excellent aquarium with a wide variety of species. The Dolphin and Beluga Whale exhibit is excellent, and the exhibilts are informative and well presented. It's a great place to spend an afternoon with kids or just with a few adult friends. A great learning experience! more

Awesome place to see sea life 8/28/2005

This is a great place to see sea life. Defintely best in the midwest. Great place for couples and famillies. They have a very wide range of fish and ocean life. Its beautiful and should be visisted by all tourists. Enjoy it while you can. more

Another must-do activity in Chcago 8/25/2005

The Shedd Aquarium is one of the best places in Chicago. It right off lake Michigan and has an enormous variety of aquatic life to see. The whales are probably the most interesting and they have several belugas with their babies. The dolphins are also very cute and my favorite would have to be the penguin. They probably have 50-100 penguins all in one area together. The highlight is the giant aquarium right in the front when you first walk-in-- especialy at feeding time. more

fishes everywhere 8/21/2005

The Shedd Aquarium is one of my favorite museums in Chicago. It is a great place to see some of the world’s most exotic marine life. The Oceanarium, which is attached to the Shedd Aquarium, is even better. They have dolphin shows regularly and the tricks that are performed amaze the audience. I highly recommend this museum for both tourists and non-tourists. more

Swim with the Fishes 8/21/2005

Wonderful aquarium. It is pricey though, and often has lines streaming out the front. My suggestions: buy your tickets online, then you can bypass the lines! Also, if you live in Chicago, or know someone in Chicago, have them buy the tickets-its cheaper for a Chicago resident! And finally, don't go on the weekend, weekdays are a lot less crowded and you'll enjoy your visit that much more. Fun gift shops too. more

Shedd Aquarium 8/21/2005

If you like fish and sea life, then you must go to the Shedd Aquarium, which is located off Lake Shore Drive near the Field Museum on the south part of Grant Park. There is a really terrific Shark/Wild Reef exhibit, where you can see several sharks up close and personal, as well as beautiful coral reef and all kinds of schools of fish. Sometimes the divers feed the fish, too. There is also an exhibit on crabs going on as well. They have a Tots on Tuesday program, which is geared for a full day of activities for pre-school age children. There is also a program where you can sign up and learn and then be a marine mammal trainer for a day. more

Could watch the fish for hours... 8/19/2005

The Shedd Aquarium is a national treasure. If your in Chicago it is a must see and if you have kids be sure to bring them. In my opinion the best feature is the large tank in the rotunda, there are so many varieties of fish all together, I could sit and watch that for hours on end. They also have a special exhibit on sharks in the basement that I would not reccomend. I had to pay extra and wait in line and the 'sharks' were small and hard to see. Unless your really into sharks I'd skip this. Of course there are many different tanks with fish from all over the world and they have a dolphin show as well. It is located downtown so there are lots of other things to do and places to eat near by. more

It's All About the Fish 8/18/2005

This lakefront aquarium is part of the museum campus, along with the Field Museum, Planetarium, and a host of other museums. Buses run from downtown near Marshall Field's directly to the museum, so driving isn't mandatory and will save you some cash on parking. The aquarium is old, but they keep improving, adding new exhibits to keep the interest level high. Be sure and catch the dolphin show. Lunch is best had elsewhere. Catch some jazz at the Shedd and be part of the be-and-be-seen crowd. more

The Greatest Aquarium in the U.S.! 8/16/2005

The Shedd Aquarium has been around for a long time, and for good reason. It's one of the neatest places to visit, and it's a real crowd-pleaser. Special marine animals inclue stingrays, giant swimming turtles, and electric eels. They have this huge, octagonal shaped tank that's filled with all kinds of aquatic life, and there is so much to see! It's definitely an all-day acitivity, and there are many worthwhile museums nearby to visit as well. more

Shedd Aquarium 8/11/2005

Part of the museum campus. A great place to take the kids and have a great. You get to learn all the different species of fish that lives here. It is vast and plenty of seating area if you need a breather or two. If you pay a little more there is a water show inside with the dolphins. more

Family Fun 8/9/2005

The Shedd Aquarium is definitely a place for the whole family to enjoy. The various fish displays appeal to people of all ages, and children and adults alike will love the dolphin shows. Remember to arrive early for the shows since there are no reserved seats. Also, you should definitely get the All-Access pass to get the most out of your day at the aquarium. It's worth it. more

Excellent Aquarium 8/8/2005

The Shedd Aquarium is one of my favorite museums in Chicago. It has a large variety of habitats for fish, reptiles and amphibians. They have a dolphin show every few hours everyday which is quite a sight. Also they have a new Shark exhibit which will fascinate your kids. Their beluga whales exhibit costs extra. I think this is a wonderful museum to take your kids. If you plan on visiting the museum regularly be sure to buy a members pass which will save you money in the long run. more

An Underworld Adventure 7/22/2005

The Shedd Aquarium is one of my favorite places in Chicago. You will be amazed by seeing so many underwater creatures up close. The beluga whales really captured my heart. The Dolphin show is not to be missed. Because it is such a close distance to the Field Museum you can see both in the same day. The Shedd Aquarium is such a rich experience, so I don't recommend rushing. more

Family Fun 7/19/2005

Everyone is always talking about how great The Shedd is but I find that it's not that incredible. It's definitely a great place for kids and for families but it's on the expensive side and there is not a whole lot to see. You have to pay an additional fee to see the dolphin show. That show I would recommend but in general, I think there are other places to go to in the city. I always feel a bit disappointed after my visit to the Shedd. more

aquarium. 7/3/2005

I have gone to this place many times over the years. plenty of parking is available so that is not a problem. we like to go this one near feeding time and watch the scuba diver feed the sharks...i like that they tell you where the animal lives in it's natural habitat, what is eats & how it survives. they also have workshop programs there for teachers, and help teachers learn about sea life so they can educate there students on them in a wonderful way. it must be something new this year & also they are hiring this summer teens to come work with them at the aquarium, and get paid for learning and helping take care of all the animals there. more

Great Aquarium - fun for kids and adults 5/23/2005

In contrast to the Field Museum which felt old and tired, the Shedd Aquarium was full of life. The museum was vibrant, there were tons of people hanging around, and the exhibits were cool. We watched the dolphin show which was a little tedious and depressing (although required if you have children) - it's the only thing I'd recommend you consider skipping. I've only been to a few aquariums in the US - this is one of the best ones I've seen. more
