Great expierience! 3/11/2008

I shall say that my only complaint may be is that I think they need a wider selection for appetizers. Otherwise, I had a GREAT time! It was beautiful and MMMmmmm the Food was delicious! I dont know what the other people have had that didnt like the restraunt, but I was sold on the New York strip! MMMmm good! And the service was great! Our waiter kept our drinks full and us updated on our food. THANKS! I like the restraunt very much and I would recommmend it, especially if your a steak lover!!! Goooooodddd!!! Pros: The food and the service Cons: not ur usual menu.(but still good) more

Thank goodness it is in the neighberhood! 2/12/2008

My husband and I moved here from downtown Chicago and are so glad we finally have a place to go like Dimaggio?s! Not only is the food mouth watering, but the staff treats us like family. We dine their on every occasion we get, whether it is business dinners, happy hour at the bar or family night; it never gets old. The specials (like the ones they have lined up for Valentines Day) are amazing. We happened to be their on the day the chef was planning the special menu for the 14th and the excitement in his voice over the preparation of the lamb has left us in serious anticipation! Thank you for coming into the neighborhood and becoming our local favorite! Pros: Parking, location, decor Cons: not open for lunch more

Everything You Need 1/31/2008

My family have been eating here since they opened last year. On our first visit the bar area was crowded and we were treated like regulars. That experience plus the amazing dinner and happy hour menu keeps us coming back. We have lived in major cities that are known for their culinary sophistication and Joe DiMaggio's would compete anywhere. Pros: Decor, Location more

Terrible Service, Worse Management 1/26/2008

My husband and I went to dinner at Joe DiMaggios this evening. We hadn't made a reservation so we waited in the bar, it took over an hour but was no problem. We were taken to the smallest table in the resturant, it was in the path of all the waiters and was right next to a large party. I told the hostess we'd prefer to sit at a different table, she basically told us that was not possible. We sat down, mentioned it again to our server, he agreed the table was not ideal - even mentioned he wasn't sure why they placed it there. The manager came over, was very rude, unprofessional and told us we could leave if we were not happy with the table. My evening was completely ruined after this. I could not believe how we were being treated - this is supposed to be a fine dining resturant. From what I experienced it was anything but. I will not be going back and do not recommend it to anyone. Pros: live music Cons: service is terrible more

Lousy Service 1/14/2008

Beautiful restaurant, average food, terrible management. The host does not know how to run a fine dining restaurant, he shouldn't even run a McDonalds in my opinion. He walks around the place not even stopping by tables asking patrons how the food is or the service is, NOTHING. The hostess' can't even hold a reservation. On two seperate occasions, after making reservations, they had not documented them into the reservations book. I shall not return until they get it right. Pros: Beautiful restaurant Cons: food & service more

Beautiful Restaurant, Mediocre Food 1/9/2008

My husband and I dined with a couple of friends here recently and were very impressed with the atmosphere and look of the restaurant. The food was another story. We ordered a fried seafood appetizer which was very soggy and greasy. My main course was the seafood risotto which was bland and unimpressive. My dining companions all had steak, and they did comment that the steak cuts were all of a very good quality. I guess the constructed dishes just left a little to be desired. We will probably return, but I would never order the dishes I did the first time. Also, I noticed that there was over a 400% markup on the wine. I guess that's how they can afford the nice digs! more

Best Restaurant in North Austin! 1/8/2008

This is an amazing place to dine out at. My husband thought it was the best steak he has ever tasted and the shell pasta dish I had was amazing! Beautiful to sit in, attentive staff, great wine selection.\r If there was one complaint, it would be that it is a little loud when its full and the live music is playing...however, it IS live music and it really makes the ambiance of the restaurant.\r I can't imagine what the complaints are really for, this is our favorite place when we want to dress up and have a nice evening out. Pros: Gorgeous, Excellent food and Service Cons: Dont bring the kids more

It's All Subjective. 1/4/2008

I read the other reviews and I have to say my wife and I had the opposite experience from the negative reviews. We were pleasantly surprised with our visit. We walked in were seated immediately, got our drinks, appetizer, and food promptly but evenly and well timed. The wait staff was attentive and in general did not seem lost or frazzeld. This is something we look for when we go out to dinner, including those places we revisit. It was not overly loud and the crowd had a good mix of people. One distraction was the little kids left to wander the dining room; this is not a place for children, PLEASE. Our food was very good. Excellent carpaccio, not like the mess some of the other restaurants in Austin try to serve. Good pasta and very good seafood. \r Dining out is all about what one likes and finds appealing. What works for one is let down for others. We had a great experience. We hope when we return it will be just as good or better. Pros: Sophisticated, Good Food, Ambiance Cons: A little pricey more

A Disappointment 12/21/2007

My wife and I have traveled the globe and have eaten at many fine restaurants and this one was a disappointment to say the least. The interior is very beautiful and in an excellent location. The staff is very inattentive and after our appetizer of mussels and glasses of wine our waiter forgot us for almost 30 minutes. We finally asked for the Manager and the waiter came over and blamed the computer for the problem. I really do not care about their computer but on the next course and a refill of my wine. \r The manager came over and apologized and sent over some wine. \r The food was fair to say the least and the wait staff kept coming over to bring us cold bread even after we told them that it was cold.\r We will not return. Maybe for a drink at the bar!\r Pros: ambience Cons: service more

Food ok, NO Customer Service 12/18/2007

We arrived a Joe's 30 minutes prior for our Reservation on a MONDAY night. All of the cocktail tables were taken so we quickly snatched a bar table as someone got up. We waited for 30 minutes at the table to be escorted to dinner. During that time the cocktail waitress told us ""the bussers won't buss tables if people sit at them quickly"" and never bussed the table or got our drink order. Very annoying. Got an average filet for $32.00 wait... add $2.00 bc they charged me for extra demi glaze. The wedge was a dissappointment, as was the souffle (rock hard). Overall steak was average. The service was better at Macaroni Grill. The servers were very Snobby at Joes..... Just because you work at a high end resturant does not mean you are high end. Pros: ambience, location Cons: service!! more

Great Restaurant, Could Be Wonderful 12/17/2007

My only beef with this restaurant is it's seemingly inability to turn away others for the sake of the already seated. The way I see it, those who are seated are already experiencing and are prepared to spend money if they aren't already. When the lounge gets so saturated that those standing around, often-times rowdy patrons, start ruining it for those in the main dining area, something needs to be done. Aside from that, everything else is on point. The service is there, the food is there and the ambience is spectacular. I would recommend anyone go there on a not-so-busy night. Pros: Service, Food, Ambience Cons: Noise, Overcrowding more

Loud restaurant with unhelpful staff 12/10/2007

Showed up and there was no room in valet parking-bad sign to begin with! Although we made reservations 2 weeks in advance, we ended up with seats right next to the kitchen! We went to see Pamela Hart sing and mentioned that in the online reservation also. They failed to address this when they sat us as she was out sick. We were only eating there to see her and would probably have left right away upon knowing that.\r \r The wine list is difficult to read because it is poorly organized. Domestic wine list in the middle of the Italian regions which are not in alphabetical order. I expect the wine steward to come to my table if I am asking as many quesstions as we were. They want me to spend $75 and up for a bottle of wine-I'm not going to take advice from a novice waitress. Selection is poor-only 3 Merlots (after reading all the pages).\r \r Service was lacking-Water got refilled once. Manager spent 1/2 of our meal cow towing to the table next to us where the patron was wearing a baseball cap!! Waitresses and waiters were more obsessed with making sure that all the meals were served simultaneously than folllowing up-like taking away dishes, asking if we need anything else. \r \r Food was fine-just don't want to put up with all the rest. If I were paying Olive Garden prices, might go back. Otherwise, I would rather go to Bellagio or Siena than here if I am going to pay these prices. I can hear the conversation, enjoy the excellent food and not get run over the children upon leaving the restaurant at 10 pm! The Domain is missing the mark if they think upscale shoppers and diners want to find a kiddie playscape during their experience. I'll go to Reed's Jazz club to hear good music.\r \r Cons: service & atmostphere more

Not bad, not exceptional 12/9/2007

We arrived early on A Friday (5:00pm) and upon entering the massive doors the hostess asked if we were there for happy hour, upon answering No, and we were there for dinner. They seemed taken back someone was there early and upon seating seemed further taken back when we did not order the overpriced wine. Certain items are over priced on the menu, and the waiter.waitresses don't seem to take the time to explain what some of the Itilian dishes are? Me & my mother had the crab fritter's (3 for $12), followed by the Veal Marsala (3 very nice sized veal slices with great marsala sauce, mushrooms, etc leaned against a large portion of mashed potatoes, with spinach), and the spagetti with prawns & tomatoes (very good). Both meals were under $20 and very good. Our biggest issue was the waiter & our request for Ice water w/lemon for a beverage. At first he brough tiny glasses, and we had to make a second request which then got us larger glasses with some ice, never any lemon. Explanations, and attention are lacking at this restaurant. more

Do not waist you time or money 12/9/2007

The restaurant was very nice as was the service on the other hand the food was a disappointment the $39 filet had no taste and also had a brown sauce poured over top of it that made it even worse, the smaller filet was over cooked the potatoes were under cooked and one side was sent back twice and they still charged me a $2,00 upcharge for it and the second serving was as bad as the first. It was embarrassing as I had a client from out of town with me. Do not waist you time or money Pros: Ambience Cons: food more

Joe's wasn't that impressive!! 12/9/2007

I've been looking forward to eating at Joe's for months now, and I have to say that our experience was lacking on several fronts. Our food arrived cold, and my buddy's pork chop was rare and cold. The decor is beautiful and very comfortable, but the wait staff and kitchen could use a few more weeks of training. \r \r I've been to Damien Mandola's Trattoria Lisina in Driftwood several times over the past few months, and I think it's the best Italian food around Austin. It's packed every weekend for dinner so the word must be getting out. Do yourself a favor and go check it out as you will not be disappointed. They also have a vineyard and offer very affordable wine compared to other restaurants in Austin. \r \r Pros: great atmosphere at the domain Cons: service & quality of good more
