We had a great experience with Jamal from Jim Dandy. We were stuck with a sewer soaked basement this past Labor Day weekend. We had been using another side sewer contractor but he couldn't be back for another week so we had to go with a big company and I was worried we were going to have to pay big money. I dug the hole myself since the other contractor had located the next break in our line. If you want to save some money on sewer work - dig your own hole. It gets quite disgusting, it's hard work, and you have to dig them a good hole. The hole should have at least one foot on either side of the pipe and extend one foot beyond the problem area of the pipe on each end. Jamal showed up when he said he would, was working within five minutes, and was nice as can be. He rooted and scoped the pipe showing us the bad spots ahead, made the repairs and left us with a bill for only $355. A paltry sum in the side sewer business. If you want to save money don't pay a plumber $150 an hour to dig a hole, but dig a good hole yourself. Be warned, anything deeper than 4' is dangerous without proper bracing. Jamal was great, go Jim Dandy. more

All Ted and I can say is THANK YOU! You just never know how important your water heater is until your daughter comes to the kitchen wearing her snow jacket! Also, meeting a plumber with a great sense of humor was a plus! Great work boys! more

Great plumbing company! I love using a local business instead of a national chain. Service is great! They came out right away, were very friendly and got the job done very quickly. I will definitely call them again. more

Absolutely irresponsible, dishonest, and terrible. They wrecked the sewer lines for the clinic I work for--and it wasn't even the clinic that hired them, it was the landlord next door! We never had plumbing problems until the day Jim Dandy started working on the sewer lines between our clinic and the house next door. When the sewer backed up, Jim Dandy said they would fix it, but instead broke a pipe in our basement without asking or telling us, and then said it wasn't their fault and never responded to any of our calls! This was over a year ago. Don't trust the glowing reviews, unless you have a couple thousand dollars to throw away at the gamble. more

I’ve used Jim Dandy as my Seattle plumber for years now and still call them whenever I have a plumbing emergency now that I live a little farther north. Very rarely do I need a plumbing contractor, but when I never hesitate to call Jim Dandy. I know they’ll do a great job, they won’t make a mess and most importantly, they’ll be friendly. more

Awful Awful Awful!!! I contacted them half a year ago for a clogged toilet and next thing I know the entire first floor's flooded with waste. They refused to return and fix the issue without charging me again so I went with another company. They sent a guy who spent half an hour and discovered that the previous contractor had damaged part of our sewage pipes. We had to get a whole section of our pipe replaced. WTF people. On top of Jim Dandy's bill, we had to fork over an entire grand to FIX what they did. On top of everything, they totally refuse to take any responsibility for what happened or even the redact the stupid bill they sent us for their ""repairs"". How is this company in operation??? more

Cheaters 4/1/2012

These people were caught on camera 2 weeks ago illegally dumping toxic raw sewage less that 100 feet from the ship canal in an empty lot next to the ballard locks. The footage is on youtube for all the world to see. They have been doing it for over 16 years and now that they have moved across town they still continue to dump their to lazy to find a new place to dump the contents out of their leaky old vactor trruck, to cheap to pay the fees for legitimate dumping and to corrupt to care about the environment or public safety. Do you really want a company with policies like that working for you? more

Beware 3/30/2012

This company dumps raw sewage into the ballard locks, there is a video of them doing it on you tube. Goto yelp and read the honest reviews of this company there. They charge there customers disposal fees for legitimate safe disposal of their wastes and then pocket the money. Check the city records and you will find they have never ever paid the city for proper disposal of their wastes, just one of the many ways they cheat and lie to the public, Most of the reviews here are written by the owner using differnet email addresses. Good luck and buyer beware, more

Great at repairing water heaters 12/31/2011

Our Water Heater gave up the ghost earlier this week which made taking a shower a bad time. I noticed that the plumbing contractor I usually use whenever one of my kids flushes a toy down the toilet also fixes water heaters which made them an obvious choice to fix the issue. We had a contractor out to the house within a few hours (it wasn?t an emergency) and he was able to resolve the issue and give us wonderful warm water within an hour. Good job and thank you! more

Perfect Plumbing contractors 12/13/2011

Jim Dandy was contracted to install new plumbing into a modified bathroom that had been expanded and had a new shower, toilet and bath installed. While my husband was able to get pretty much everything together on his own, Jim Dandy?s plumbing contractors were that extra inch that was needed to complete the project. They were able to do everything we could not and they excelled at it. If you plan on remodeling, you should darn sure use these guys to help with new plumbing installation. more

Was my parent's plumber, now is my plumber 10/7/2011

I know enough about toilets to resolve a great number of issues, however when my toilet got a deep clog in the pipes, I was stumped. My folks have used Jim Dandy for plumbing and sewer issues in the past, so it was a no-brainer to use them when I was in need. My plumbing contractor was able to get to my place within 30 minutes and had the clog up and out of my life in less time than that. He was incredibly cordial and respectful of my home and did not dilly-dally at all to get the job done. He did the job efficiently and he did it right no wonder they more

Plumbing Life-savers 9/8/2011

Bless Jim Dandy for installing our new unclogging our kitchen sink and installing a new garbage disposal. It was nice to have a bunch of professionals come in in a flash and expertly deal with every problem they were dealt with with a calm, reassuring manner. If I ever am in need of sewer or plumbing repair again, I'm calling Jim Dandy. They are totally Seattle's best! more

Solid Sewer Contractors 8/8/2011

Jim Dandy has been amazing with every project we?ve contracted them out to do. They are easily the best plumbers in Seattle. Incredibly skilled, and not afraid to get their hands dirty. We?ve hired them out for big projects like septic and sewer work and simple things like unclogging a toilet. They excel at both types of jobs. Great guys, I cannot recommend them enough to people! more

Quick and skilled plumbers 7/11/2011

I needed a plumber as soon as possible and chose Jim Dandy simply because I saw them first during a google search. I feel a really got lucky as far a plumbing contractors go. Our guy was there in around 20 minutes and had our toilet unclogged in less time than that. In, out, and pleasant. What more could you ask for from a business? more

Great Seattle Plumbers 6/8/2011

Wonderful plumbers and sewer techs. They have proven time and time again that I can trust them with both my commercial and private plumbing needs. They?ve answered the call late and night and early in the morning, and solved whole ranges of problems. They are the only plumbing service I will ever even consider using. more

Tub unclogged 3/15/2011

I will not venture to guess what the cause of my clogged tub drain was, but the result was me having to call Jim Dandy. I've called them before over the years since I figure that a company that's been around for about 100 years probably knows what they're doing by now. My plumber was here within 20 minutes and had the clog cleared in less than that. Now everything works right as rain. more

To the rescue 3/11/2011

Last weekend, our septic tank burst, causing a slew of problems to a portion of our home's foundation and affecting pipes in our basement, causing minor flooding. It was an absolute nightmare. Immediately we called an emergency cleaning service and a sewer contractors to tackle the most immediate problems. Jim Dandy Sewer and Plumbing Services were absolutely amazing in tackling the septic tank head on. I'm not sure what kind of plumbing magic they did, but they returned from the work covered with grime and successful. I really appreciate them doing the truly dirty work and saving our home. more

Unclogging Masters 2/14/2011

A clogged toilet is a problem. A clogged toilet that is overflowing and flooding your bathroom because your 4 year old decided it'd be a good idea to flush a sock-puppet down the toilet is a nightmare. In a panic I googled ?Seattle Plumbers? and found Jim Dandy. They probably heard the panic in my voice because they were at the house within minutes and our plumber quickly and politely introduced himself and then went straight to work unplugging the toilet and returning our bathroom to it's status-quo. more

Side Sewer Repair in Ballard 10/28/2010

Sewer repairs are crappy. Fact is, they require a lot of work, can cost a lot, and mean you don't get to shower or use the facilities in your house until they are fixed. \r \r My wife and I were married at the beginning of this month and all the family and friends who attended strained the system at our mid-century house in Ballard and gave us our first challenge as newlyweds - a sewage back-up in our basement (thankfully, the house-guests had left). We rented a rooter and managed to snake out some roots we knew were a problem about 30' down our lateral line (right under a neighbors tree) but during the process we collapsed about 6' worth of pipe right where the sewer line bends out of our house and heads towards the main. Total block. \r \r My new father-in-law had worked with Jim Dandy before and recommended them (I was a little nervous after reading the so-so reviews here and elsewhere). I called them and they had a plumber, Shawn, come out within the hour. He identified the block, tried a rooter head, confirmed the line was broken, and then used a radio-locator to pinpoint the location, which was luckily not under our concrete slab. He worked really fast, let me pepper him with questions, and was super nice. He was there for an hour and a half but only charged me an hour. He also set up an appointment with an estimator (Chris) early the next morning.\r \r Chris came in and took a look at the location, and gave me a pretty good bid price. He was willing to be flexible on aspects of the job, and after consulting with him, we agreed on a division on labor that saved us quite a lot more. I and some willing friends dug a portion of the excavation that afternoon (4' down x 8' x 4' - we were sore!) and he had a crew come out the next day and dig down another 3' (digging more than 4' down can be dangerous without bracing, which the crew did when they arrived) as well as pull out the broken lateral line, replace it with PVC, completely rebuild a nearby downspout tie-in with PVC, and add a 4"" clean-out line to the surface. We did the backfilling.\r \r As soon as the crew was done our second plumber, Jon, came out to scope the new pipes and clean out the remaining roots. He was able to get a 4' rooter tip to the main-line (120' away) and we took a look at the remaining concrete pipes on both sides of the house. They looked pretty good for being 65 years old. He even cleaned out the sand in our downspout p-traps. Despite the late hour, he did not charge us for overtime (which he technically should have). Like Shawn, he worked hard and fast and then billed slightly less time to us than he could have.\r \r I really liked everybody associated with the sewer mess. They were nice, sympathetic, flexible with the estimate, and fast. The project cost me way, way, way less than I thought it would have. It wasn't cheap - but it didn't break the bank. We were pretty lucky with the location of the break and didn't have to worry about city streets or sidewalks, big rocks, or under slab. What could have been a financial nightmare was resolved with only minimal pain and a lot of good learning experience.\r \r I would recommend Jim Dandy to anybody, and would also recommend tackling a sewer break with a willingness to ask questions, a willingness to do some of the grunt-work, and a friendly attitude. I think plumbers are like anyone else - if you get all mad at them for telling you the painful truth about your problem, you might not get the best service. If you can laugh about it a little, get engaged with the problem-solving, and see them as on your side, they really will be. \r more
