Boston's BEST Stylist = Sam Alter 5/31/2011

Sam has literally changed my life. You may think I'm exaggerating, but if you have hair like mine...you'll understand. I've had dirty blonde curly/frizzy hair my whole life that I've relentlessly colored and heat styled; damaging it to what I though was beyond repair. I wish I could post a before and after picture of my hair and show what Sam has done for me over the past year. I now have an AMAZING head of blonde, smooth, and healthy hair. I have never had a stylist that has made me as perfectly blonde without making me look bleached or fake. I have had the Keratin treatment done twice by Sam and I SWEAR BY IT...I can now get out of the shower and just go!! No more hours of blow drying and straightening for me!!! And the best part is, it lasts a worry free 6 months! I absolutely adore Sam; he is outstanding! more

THE BEST!!! 9/16/2010

Ingrid!! is the best.. I flew all the way from the UK to get my hair done with Ingrid, she did the Keratin Complex hair treatment on my hair and that lasted me 6 months, she so meticulously straigthened each section of my hair, GOD she's amazing.!! I would recommend her to anyone.. She is simply the best.. will be flying back to Boston to just get my hair done with her.. She recommended the right products to use and all the after care instructions well explained. One of the finest salons I've been to,. the rest of the staff were very friendly. more

Ali is the absolute best!!! 7/3/2010

So I have been to Ali twice now, and she is amazing. I walked in to the salon last year with bleach blonde hair down to the small of my back. She has since cut it it a edgy-chic long bob/shag fusion that I love..... AND dyed it back to my original color. She looked at a picture I printed out from facebook, and somehow managed to dye it back to the exact original shade. All from a picture she looked at for about a minute. Months later, I cant even tell where the new growth is. It is the exact match. She is AMAZING. I will never go to anyone else ever again as long as I live in or even near Boston. Plus she gives you great styling tips as she cuts and colors your hair. She has definitely taught me some valuable tricks. 5 stars all the way!!!!!! Pros: styling advice, product tips, redken color specialist Cons: have to tip in cash more

Ali Elliot will amaze you with her Technique and Knowledge 5/23/2010

Ali Elliot is my new official Hair Stylist. I have known about Ali for a few years however I did not make my way into her chair until a month ago. Reason being? My fear of letting a stylist who was not African American touch my hair. Unfortunately this fear of mine had held me back from achieving the best hair style ever! Ali is an extremely knowledgeable and competent stylist who knows exactly what she is doing with all hair types especially ""Black"" hair. I have been to see Ali twice in the past month and during those visits she has ""Relaxed"",""Blown Out"", ""Highlighted"", ""Cut"" & ""Styled"" my hair. (with NO issues) I couldn't be more impressed with the results. I personally believe that the difference between Ali Elliot and the many other Hair Stylists I have seen is that Ali continuously keeps up with her education and the latest trends. I could go on and on about my experience at John-Pierre however the bottom line is this,..Ali knows exactly what she is doing and even better than that, She does amazing work.. I now have a ""High Fashion"" cut that I would never have had the confidence to get if I had continued to see the stylists I had been going to. My walk is different, my attitude is different, and yes people, I feel amazing! Make it a point to visit Ali Elliot at the Jean-Pierre Salon on Newbury St. In Boston...... You'll be shaking your head wondering why you hadn't found her sooner and at the same time smiling from ear to ear because you finally did! Oh and did I mention that Ali is a Redken Certified Design and Hair Colorist? She Rocks! ;-) Pros: Too Many to Mention! Ali Elliot Rocks more

Best Hair Cut! 4/26/2010

Most men want a barber to do thier hair, but when i say Ali Elliott gave me my best hair cut ever I am not exaggerating. I was very hesitant about going to a ""salon"" in fear of hair spray, gel, and hair color but from the moment Ali met me she put me at ease. She could tell i was in unfamiliar territory and quickly knew how to talk and handle me. We disscussed what i wanted then she made suggestions. She talked to me about color camo, and what kind of cut would work best for my face and lifestyle. I highly recommend Ali to all you guys out there who want the best but are afraid of ""salons"". Give her a try and you will be more than happy you did, I know I am ! Pros: friendly & informative more

Best Salon Ever! 3/4/2010

I just moved to Boston and went to Jean-Pierre for a hair cut and color. I was absolutely delighted!! Sam gave me the best haircut and best color job I have ever had. I would strongly recommend going to Jean-Pierre! Pros: Great quality more

Best Haircut in Boston 1/8/2010

I am a Boston area student who has tried many Boston salons and finally found my home in Jean-Pierre. I saw Sam and he gave me the best cut i have ever had. I didn't even have to say a word he went to work right away. He was very informative on how to handle my hair too. He is great and i recommend him to everyone. Pros: Very comfortable and great quality cut Cons: Can't think of any more

Great Salon 11/28/2009

I've been a Boston-area student for 3 years now, yet before now I never got a cut in the city. I was afraid of outrageous prices and too-trendy hair cuts. I don't know why I waited so long! I asked a friend who always looks good where she went for cuts, and she recommended Sam at Jean-Pierre. Sam gave me the best cut I ever had - I was growing out a bob, and my hair had literally no shape. He knew exactly what to do and I now have a beautiful ""growing-out"" cut that actually looks awesome! He also gave me great tips about shampoos, blowouts, etc. Definitely go see Sam at Jean-Pierre! Pros: great cut more

Sam Alter Rocks! 11/13/2009

I went to Jean-Pierre about 5 weeks ago for the first time. I went to Sam Alter because of all the great reviews I read about him. He was exactly what I had been looking for! He listens to what you want and makes smart suggestions. I came in afraid to go too short, but knew I needed to make a change. I told him that I wanted something fresh but nothing too dramatic because I'm a professional in a pretty conservative field. He suggested that I go shorter than what I had in mind so that it would be more of a change for me...AND...I absolutely LOVE my haircut. It looks amazing curled, straight and flipped out at the ends. It's so fun and still looks really good! I got so many compliments on it. I've been all over Newbury and just haven't found the right salon or stylist. I've found the one! I'm not going anywhere else! And really, you can't beat the deal and the customer service! Oh and Sam is just so talented and I had so much fun chatting with him! Pros: Talented folks, cheapest on Newbury! more

Great Cut 5/27/2009

As a college student, I hadn't been able to find an affordable place in Boston to get a haircut. A friend referred me to Jean-Pierre, and I'm so glad I went there. Bethanie is an amazing stylist. She listened to all of my concerns, and gave me a cut that looks great and will be easy to maintain. Now, I won't have to go home to get a haircut; I highly recommend the salon, and will definitely be visiting Bethanie and Jean-Pierre again!\r \r Pros: Great Staff and Location more

Chuck Bass is the Picasso of Hair Artistry 4/1/2009

I have taken the liberty to read all of the reviews left by disgruntled patrons and their warnings to ""avoid John Doe hair stylist by whatever means possible at Jean Pierre Salon."" Thus, I felt it imperative that I let everyone know about Boston’s best. It makes me laugh because the management of Jean Pierre Salon has raised the bar to a higher echelon and has undeniably made itself a force to be reckoned with simply based on the hire of Fashionista Stylist Chuck Bass. His presence is well known in the market place as seen by his recognition as Best of Boston. \r Chuck Bass possesses an amazing gift of redefining a client's look using his cutting edge styling techniques & vision. It's no surprise to any of his client's that he has continually worked the NYC Fashion Week circuit for many years with a demanding client base from NYC to Chicago. He is an artist by nature even to the novice eye & I have referred both men and women to Chuck Bass. Truth be told, I carry a stack of his business cards on me at all times and am bombarded with thank you's on a daily basis. As Chuck Bass says, a person's hair is always their best accessory. \r Since meeting Chuck Bass in 2007, there is not a doubt in my mind that Boston cannot boast a better stylist. As an executive with limited time, I have always been particular in whom I put my trust when it comes to hair and Chuck Bass ALWAYS delivers. Bottom line-no matter what your hair type, if you want to look better than you ever deemed possible, don't waste your time or money on just anyone. Just because a hair stylist is employed on the prestigious Newbury Street does not translate into stellar credentials. Go to the best, Chuck Bass at Jean Pierre. He’s simply in a league all his own. \r Pros: Chuck Bass is Boston's Best Hands Down Cons: Nothing! What's better than looking better than ever?! more

Moselle is amazing!!!! Get the Keratin! 3/21/2009

The salon was having a special on the new straightening treatment, also called a Keratin treatment. I have been wanting my hair chemically straightened for a while now because it is constantly frizzy, hard to manage and dull. I dyed my hair black for three years, after which I decided wanted my natural color back. I had to strip it four times to get the black out. Basically my hair was a mess, and I have very long hair and I didn't want to just cut it all off. I figured I would try the Keratin. I had an appointment with Moselle on a Sunday. I asked about the treatment and she described everything to me, very helpful, she even had to get certified to be able to do the treatment. I was skeptical and nervous. But it has CHANGED MY LIFE!!!! Moselle is the absolute best!! She even gave me a killer haircut. The treatment has allowed me to cut my drying time in half, my hair is so shiny, and NO FRIZZ! Yay! It is unbelievable, if you are thinking of having the treatment, or getting a haircut, go to Moselle! People have stopped me on the street to complement my hair, thats a first! Alot of salons don't do the treatments correctly or the stylists aren't even certified. Don't be fooled. Go to Jean Pierre and ask for Moselle. You won't be disapointed! Pros: Unbelievable Keratin treatment and haircuts! more

Best color, extensions, texture 1/22/2009

I have been thrilled w/ my experience at Jean Pierre. Aliie Elliott has at last made me feel good about my hair--its texture, its length, its color, its overall feel. Whenever I walk into Jean Pierre, I feel welcomed. It is not some arrogant ""newbury street"" salon, but rather a place of warmth, comfort, and compatibility. Pros: Staff, ambience Cons: parking, more

AVOID AT ALL MEASURES!!!!!! 8/7/2008

4 months later, and my HORRENDOUS CUT AND COLOR is finally growing out. The following is true story and I signed up for citysearch just to tell it. I went in for root touch up on my bleached bangs and to re-dry the back black. I had a funky cut and color and asked for a trim too. Jordan turned my hair purple first, then orange then blueish. and told me ""come back to get it fixed"". I did. I then was sent to the ""manager"" who spent (and i swear on this) about 7 hours trying to ""fix"" my hair, which was fine when I went in. I ended up losing my bangs, yup, LOSING THEM< as in FALLING OUT, and she dyed my hair a HORRIBLE blue black that had light blue around the front... best of all, this pretentious male, kept comgin over giving me an attitude because I was upset, and said he didnt know how ""damaged my hair was when I walked in"", It was not damaged, I actually loved it, and just wanted it touched up. See I would have nevef went here if it was not for the stylist talking me into coming back for ""exciting coloring"" and how she liked to do ""funky"" colored hair. If she did not know how to do this procedure, she should have never pretended. She got in way over her head, and I would have forgiven it had her manager been the ""professional"" here, and stepped in to fix it. She made it worse. only good thing? I complained so much I got all my money back, but I would trade that and more for my bangs to not have shriveled off. And the icing on the cake, I used $7.99 of that to go to CVS and by a box of black hair dye and put it all over my head just to not look horrible. (Ironically when asked by the1st stylist if I liked my hair, when leaving, I said ""look, if you see me and my hair is dyed all black then you know I hated it"", and I was half joking.) Thanks for the worst salon experiance I have ever had. I had to buy a lot of hats these past months. I didnt write anything right away to let some of my anger wear away, but I figured others need be warned.................... Pros: none except Jordan was nice, does not mean much though Cons: dont seem to know much about hair, pretentious attitudes for no reason more

Fantastic experience - great hair cut 5/8/2008

I highly recommend Katie at Jean-Pierre! I went in asking for a drastic change in hairstyle (cutting it from below my shoulders to a short crop - and I have always had long hair!), and she not only really listened to my needs, but also took her time so that if I felt comfortable. The end result was perfect - she adjusted the styles I had been looking at to suit my face and lifestyle. I LOVE my new hair!\r \r I have never so thoroughly enjoyed a salon experience, and I made sure to book my next appointment before I left! The prices were really affordable ($40 for a haircut - and she really took her time), and the entire staff was pleasant and friendly. I can't wait to go back! Pros: Great Staff (Katie), Affordable, Pleasant Atmosphere, Convenient location Cons: None! more

Best Men's Cut Period! - Manny is the only person I let cut my hair! 3/25/2008

I'm a very picky person when it comes to getting my hair cut. I've been going to Jean Pierre off and on for over 10+ years & I started going to Manny about 2 years ago or so. At first I'm sure he thought I was a nut case. I mean for a guy I was ""ok not too short over here, a little longer there, no thinning shears....etc."" Anywho, he listens to me and I've never, ever not had a great hair cut. Now for a guy I'm pretty simple, nothing Uber fancy etc. but people do say to me ""Niiice hair cut!"" when I come from Manny's chair. I come during my work day so he's always nice enough to give me a rinse and then let me re-style my hair again so I can go back to work. ( Desk job in financial services, again, I'm very picky! ;-) ) Anyway, he does a great job even with all my quirks and would recommend him to anyone hands down. Pros: Great stylist, Can get same day appointments, Nice atmosphere. Cons: None. more

Please allow me to elaborate on the last review 3/13/2008

How can I say in the most sincere way possible that Manny at Jean Pierre is amazing? The reason that Jean Pierre's secret (or maybe not so secret) magician is so wonderful is not because he is so skilled that one person can have a few great cuts and write a review about it like the one preceding this, but because all over Boston -correction- the Eastern Seaboard, people's heads are getting whiplash nodding in agreement. \r \r Seriously, Manny is, as Tony Montana might say, some Class-A sh*t. I am a person who, until someone recommended Manny to me a couple years ago, would get a haircut every two or so years, only to do it and be reminded why exactly I had waited two years. I never went to the same stylist twice. But Manny knows what he's doing. I always thought ""I must just have bad hair"". Now I go to Manny regularly and every time, I find myself getting random compliments from random strangers. Everyone knows that to compliment someone's hair is actually to compliment someone's entire appearance. See, Manny doesn't just whip out some impressive style to stick on everyone's head. He can figure out in the most subtle way how to make someone's hair look naturally and easily great, in a way that is unique to them. He is like the difference between buying a cheap dress or having one tailor made. Have him cut your hair, and men will stare at you on the train. Gay men will fawn over you. Bitchy women will give you mean looks and sweet ones will give you secret little smiles. But most of all, you will look nice with zero effort and be able to keep your mind on more important things. Manny is nuts!! more

Manny works his Magic 3/12/2008

Anybody who has been to Jean Pierre knows the infamous Manny.\r Normally I do not trust people with my hair. I was referred to Manny. As he was cutting my hair, dyeing it, I remember being apprehensive. After he was done, I had the best hair cut I've gotten in long time. Now I'm hooked and have to go get a touch- up, or sometimes a brand new color and cut from Manny every month. I've had about 5 people ask me on the street or at the store who does my hair and i always refer them to Manny now too. Honestly kids, this guy works magic. more

Jean-Pierre Hair Salon / Manny are Fabulous! 3/8/2008

Jean-Pierre hair salon is my absolute favorite place to be. My stylist Manny came highly recommended from two female friends (I am a male) and I have been using him exclusively for over two years now. Manny is inded a true artist and one of the most talented people I have ever encountered. Manny is a great listener, very attentive to my needs and also makes great suggestions when he is asked. I always get compliments from friends and often strangers on my hair after leaving the salon. I would go nowhere else in Boston for my hair. The styles are terrific and the cut is always perfect; he keeps me trendy. Also, the staff is always overwhelmingly generous and all together fun to be around! Pros: Manny, Highly Skilled, Trend-setting, Attention to Detail Cons: Parking on Newbury St is difficult in general more

Manny - terrible haircut, I will never go back 3/1/2008

I went to Jean Pierre Salon and had a haircut with Manny. It was my first time to the salon. I got the worst haircut of my life. I had long hair, halfway down my back. I told Manny that above all, I wanted my hair kept long. I told him several times that I wanted a long, feminine haircut with layers framing my face. We negotiated a few inches off. He gave me a blunt shoulder length cut that is beyond awful, has zero style, and is carelessly done (the two halves are very different and there are pointy pieces sticking out). The cut is boring, really short, and looks bad on my face. Most importantly, he didn't listen to anything I said. I have gotten sad every time I have looked in the mirror since then. It will take me more than a year for my hair to grow out. Based on Manny's personality - bossy, opinionated, a crappy listener, does what he wants - I cannot imagine that he would give anyone a good haircut. He blatantly ignored everything I said and by the time it was over, it was too late - he couldn't put the hair back on my head and all I could do was walk out of the salon in shock. My friends have agreed that this is a bad haircut. I hope I can prevent even one person from going in for the same awful treatment. more
