Get better wait staff ! 3/19/2011

Food was good, atmosphere was nice. The problem was our waiter acted like he couldn't stand being there. The chips and salsa guy at a mexican restaraunt does better than our guy. Pay your staff more or hire better people, but keep staff like that and I don't think people are going to spend good high end money for that crap service. Keep it up and your chefs won't mean anything to a lousy wait staff more

Quality went down here .... 12/19/2010

We had couple of happy hours and celebrated couple of birthdays at Jasper's ( at Domain) . I found the menu never changed. For my initial two visits I enjoyed here but after that I did not find any exciting menu items to try. After our last visit we have said good bye to this place. Food was cold and did taste good at all. I kind of missed that warm service from them too. more

Happy Hour All Day Everyday! 2/2/2010

This is definitely a place to try at The Domain. Where else can you have Happy Hour prices during open hours? The Rock shrimp appetizer and Martini specials are AWESOME! Need I say more? Definitely a place to visit over and over again! Pros: ambiance, specials & service more

Going down hill 4/15/2009

I have patronized Jasper's for almost two years. They used to have great food, coffee and service. I don't know exactly what happened, but I agree with another review here on the bad menu changes. The mac and cheese used to be one of my favorites, but is now more like tasteless flattened octopus. I asked why they changed the recipe and they told me it had been that way for several months- huh? We have also suffered undercooked and tasteless entrees on more than one occasion. more

First time...won't be our last! 3/19/2009

My husband and I finally got to Jaspers last week for the first time. I'm sorry now that it took us so long. We had the Ketel Lemon martini to start - very good house-made sweet & sour. The soup du jour and crab cakes were some of the best we've had. Especially liked the authentic south asian flavors in the soup. Yum! My husband had the pecan crusted trout with sweet potatoes that brought out the sweetness in the dish. I had the chicken with a lemon/rosemary sauce. I know! How boring, right?! It was perfectly balanced and went great with the recommended Sonoma-Cutrer chard. My sincere thanks to Hunter. Great service! Great wine suggestion! We will definitely be back. Pros: Atmosphere, Service, Food more

Used to be our favorite spot when it first opened!! 12/28/2008

Wow ... how a year changes things. Used to be our favorite spot for a drink and delicious appetizers. We loved the service & the atmosphere too. But the last 3 times, the drinks were off and the appetizers were no where close to the quality they used to be. We usually never give a place a second chance, but we liked Jasper's and Randi so much that we gave them 3 chances!! Too bad. Hope they make it back to where they used to be and should be. Pros: Location Cons: No consistency. Nights where the bartender is off, bus boy or waitress is making the drinks!! more

Eaten teher many times, never a bad meal 11/2/2008

My wife and I have eaten at Jasper's 8-10 times, by ourselves, with family/friends, and with clients, most recently about 3 weeks ago. We've never had anything less than excellent food and great service. We'll keep going back. more

Best Experience in Austin Dining 10/26/2008

Having lived in Austin for 15 years, my dining experience at Jaspers last night was the best that I can recall. OK, we haven't eaten everywhere in town...not by a longshot. However, we do eat out on a fairly regular basis from downtown up to Round Rock. Last night, we had a party of four on the outdoor patio, three of whom were having trouble deciding on an entree. Ian, our server, brought the chef to the table, and he offered to do a sampler with four different entrees, served one at a time to all of us (on separate plates with small portions for each). We weren't in a hurry, so the extra time to have a series of four small entrees served wasn't a problem. Everything was VERY well prepared and delicious. Although we don't usually do desert, that was included as part of our experience, with the chef selecting his favorites. All I can say is WOW. We debated among us which was the best choice, but never came to agreement (my favorite was the rocky road). I considered the price very reasonable for the experience...great food, great service and a great atmosphere...in fact, so good that I signed up on CitySearch just so I could write a reveiw about the experience. Pros: great food, great service and a nice patio dining area more

NOT AWARD WINNING RIBS, Great service though! 10/24/2008

Jaspers is a beautiful restaurant. My husband and I had the ""Bon Appetite award winning top 3 choice"" Ribs. They were very very lack luster. They were just ribs with a spicey bbq sauce, yes they fell off the bone. Which isn't hard to do if you cook them forever but they weren't smoked, or flavorful. I've actually had better from Costco. I had the calamari, which was weird..it was greasy and the thick soy ginger sauce was too overwhelming and the calamari couldn't compete with it. I felt like I was just eating a chewy piece of soy ginger gum. For Dessert I had the chocolate cake, it was dry and dense with an unpleasant chocolate flavor. I only had a few bites and called it quits. The service was excellent, water glasses filled instantly. Overall not my fave place at least for Rib. If you want seriously good ribs go to Black BBQ in Lockhart, its worth the drive and you'll understand when I say that the ribs at Jaspers are seriously NOTHING SPECiAL. Oh well, at least we went in for Austin's Restaurant week and didn't get TOO ripped off. Pros: Service, well designed resturant, great location Cons: Food was questionable, Value is minimal, your paying for the name more

Great Ribs 8/21/2008

I went to Jasper's last week and thought it was fabulous! I had the Ribs, which fell off the bone, they we so good. The calamari was cooked to perfection and was with a soy glaze instead of a tomato sauce and it rocked!! It was so different. My wife had the smaller prime ribeye and loved it. We split the Gouda Mac and Cheese and Wilted Spinach. YUM. We had a dessert trio and ate every bit of it. more

Just ok, too expensive for food that wasn't that good 7/23/2008

We stopped in Jasper's for dinner one night and had high hopes with the menu shown to us. We had the prime rib and filet along with salads and overall we just didn't really likeour food. It wasn't terrible, but for these prices we do expect something very good. It was just ok at best. A let down. more

Wonderful evening 4/22/2008

Last night, Monday, 8 of us dined at Jaspers. We enjoyed the Happy Hour drink specials in the bar and then went into the beautifully appointed, serene dining room. Our server was Patrick and his years of experience were evident as he walked us thru the menu and specials. We sampled a few apps - the calamari, blue cheese chips and shrimp pizza. The chips were crisp and warm; the pizza crisp and flavorful with several - not lots - of nice size shrimp and while I did not try the calamari; however, it disappeared. Several ordered salad which were huge and either an entree size or sharable. The tomato and asparagus salad was enough for 4 and with truly fresh ingredients. Jaspers asparagus is hickory grilled and cooked perfect. For main courses there were orders for salmon, the ruby trout special, rib eye, baby back ribs, and sea bass. I had the salmon and asked for it cooked medium. It was perfectly prepared along with the asparagus and polenta which came with it. Everyone had the same comments on their dishes - fresh ingredients perfectly prepared with wonderful flavors. My friend who devoured the ribs said her favorite were the whipped potatoes along side it. She had wanted a substitution but was so glad she followed Patrick's recommendation as they were a true standout. Something else in common was all entrees were so large most everyone carried about half home, making Jaspers not only a great experience but fine dining at reasonable prices. Being a Monday night, and after reading other reviews, I was a bit hesitant to go, but am so glad I did. All experiences are different, but perhaps going during week and getting Patrick is the secret. All of us would go back and perhaps next time would sit outside to enjoy their wonderful patio. Pros: Great food and service Cons: None on the night we were there more

Not consistent 4/21/2008

I've had dinner at Jaspers on four seperate occasions. The first three were excellent, I had the award winning baby back ribs twice and they were fantastic, and I had the prime rib twice. The first time the prime rib was very good, so much so that on my fourth visit which was last Saturday evening 4/19/08. The prime rib at $41 for 16 oz. was auful, it was tough and tastless as were the other meals of my party of four. The Salmon was tastless, the sea bass was tastless. The evening, food wise was a disaster. Actually, I don't think the prime rib was prime rib at all. It was some cheap cut of meat you can get in the supermarket. Pros: Good waitstaff Cons: In-consistent food more

overrated 4/6/2008

Focused more on presentation and over-seasoning than simple taste and good food - such as ""backyard"" gourmet suggests. Appetizers are small portioned. Steaks were nice, but nothing special. Great salads and desserts, but that's the easy part. In short: decent service, mediocre food, dull atmosphere. more

Food not good! 4/1/2008

Food was a complete let down, mostly dry and flavorless. Cool ambience, I'd go back for a drink but thats about it. Pros: Atmosphere Cons: Food more

Jaspers Big Rip Off 1/31/2008

This past Sunday three of us had lunch at Jaspers in the Domain, bad choice. The food is extremely overpriced and not of the quality you would expect from a restaurant in this price range. The calamari appetizer was made with large pieces of chewy squid placed on top of a very salty soy sauce no other dipping sauce was offered. This small sized dish was priced at $14.00. Pros: Only Restaurant open in Domain for Sunday lunch not crowded Cons: VALUE FOR MONEY, Food, Service more

Big Disappointment 1/27/2008

Jasper's was a very big disappointment for all the hype, the food was at best marginal. Service was slightly above average and the decor was ultra modern and fit in with the style of the Domain. The dining room was cold, drafty and the music was to loud for the small crowd in the restaurant. Pros: Great Decor, Great Date Place Cons: Marginal Food, Expensive more
