Mum on Valentines 2/14/2005

Finally got the chance to cross Jardiniere of my fine dining destinations list on Valentine's Day. I wanted to really like it, but I'm afraid, for the price, it's just okay. Flavors weren't complex, just kinda so-so and really salty - I'm someone who usually likes their food saltier than everyone else! Didn't find anything particulary ""French"" or ""Fine"" about the food. Other than that, service was first rate, meats were cooked just right, good portions. Stayed away from the tasting course/menu - read bad reviews. Best thing we had was the mushroom soup - yum! Had the bread salad, calamari appetizer, duck breast entree, short rib entree, pineapple cake. Good enough food but not for the price and hype. Pros: Service Cons: Expensive more

Tasty Outing 7/31/2004

We tried Jardiniere for a birthday dinner and were very happy with the food and service. The arugula, endive, and frizee salad was delicious as was the braised chicken and short ribs. All the deserts looked great and the two we selected, peach tart and almond torte, were fantastic. Service is deliberately relaxed to allow diners to enjoy the ambiance and their meal. Not appropriate for a quick bite. Pros: ambiance, bar, deserts more

Wonderful both inside and out 6/17/2004

Even before I dined at the restaurant, I was awed at the simple yet captivating exterior designing. When I finanlly went there to eat, I was even more dazzled by the decor on the inside. I tried their 6-course meal and I have to say I was satisfied till the end. Very creative, very tasteful and very modern. Pros: food, service, decor more

Very nice 1/4/2004

The restaurant and service is extremely polished and refined, but not so that it was stuffy or unwelcoming. The 2nd floor calls on a better dining experience, a bit more quiet and romantic than the 1st, so make reservations. The food was prepared well, and the presentation masterful. For those that like the taste of duck, the chef has a few dishes that would satisfy. The price reflects the sophistication of the menu and decor, so be prepared. Pros: impressive menu, beautiful decor, full bar Cons: small, noisy, expensive more

Wow, just wow 10/30/2003

I have never been dissappointed with Jardiniere's menu. It's great seasonal menu is worth checking in with from time to time. This place is a gem in SF's culinary world. more

OK 10/29/2003

1st time in SFO. Used this service to locate good food. Jardiniere has excellent appetizers, salads and desserts. The entrees were OK. I had braised shortribs that was really pot roast and my wife had chicken - plain and bland. If I were to go again I'd order just the appetizers and make them my entree. We complained about the pot roast and the waiter was kind enough to remove from the bill. Good service. Pros: appetizers, salads, desserts Cons: entrees more

Very Good 10/7/2003

The food was excellent, perhaps the best rack of lamb I have ever had -- flavorful and very tender. The decor is interesting and elegant although I don't think art deco goes well with brick walls. Service was strained with so many theater-goers trying to get out the door but once they left, things were better. more

Worth a return 10/2/2003

Although I was VERY disapointed about the removal of the Foie Gras from the menu, I had a very positive experince and would return. I did the 6 course tasting menu ($75) with wine parings ($40). Although I felt the portion size small for the money, it was worth the cost to sample the range of the chef. The most memorable dish they had, was a sublime lobster w/ gnochi! Try it if it is offered. The poached oysters were a miss. The service was impecible, and when we felt a wine we were served was ""corked"", the somelier immediately agreed upon smelling...I would return. more

One of my favorite places in the city... 6/12/2003

I love everything about Jardinere...the ambiance is wonderful and the food and service is always wonderful when I go. The oyster selection never disappoints, the fois gras is succulent. I strongly recommend any of their duck dishes (especially if they have the cassoulet on the menu), the cod and bass just melts in your mouth and the lamb is prepared very well. Also-- they have a great wine list and the bar is fully stocked... Pros: food, service, romantic more

Great Experience .. 5/27/2003

Perfect for romantic date with live piano and cello. Service is good but not impressive. Make sure to make reservation on 2nd level. more

disappointed 4/11/2003

i was extremely eager to try jardiniere after hearing rave reviews from friends who recently dined there. i decided to try the chef's tasting menu (6 courses), and was extremely put off by the service: i found myself waiting 20 minutes between some of the courses, and was even accidentally given my dessert before the cheese course. the food (good, not great) coupled with poor service was not worth the price. more

Still Going Strong 3/15/2003

Still going strong after 5+ years. Dined at Jardiniere last night before attending the ballet. Arrived early enough to have an unrushed dinner before 8:00 curtain. Excellent food, service and ambience. Delicious oyster appetizers and imaginative salad. I had the halibut which was cooked to perfection and served hot, the way it should be. Very good cheese selection for dessert. Service was attentive and professional. Sat in the upstairs dining room, more quiet than downstairs. Terrific wine list. All in all a very good experience. Expensive, but worth it. Pros: Excellent food, Excellent service, Beautiful restaurant Cons: what cons? more

Most excellent! 3/11/2003

I went to Jardiniere for my birthday last Saturday night and it was a very happy birthday. We had reservations and were seated within 2 minutes of arriving. The Food was very tasty and served quickly, the service was impeccable. more

I must have gone on an off night. 2/7/2003

I didn't like the food --beginning with the salad. The tomatoes were bad. I didn't care for my main course which actually work to my advantage because the dessert was very good and the only thing worth eating! The restaurant itself is romantic and very nicely designed. more

masa's price without the quality 10/30/2002

when I went after the ballet one evening, my group had reservations and it still took over 45 minutes to be seated. even if it was busy, it shouldn't take that long. plus, the food was the same price as masa's, but the quality was no where near that. sure it was good food, but not at masa's level, and they shouldn't be charging like they are. however, the atmosphere and decorations are excellent and very romantic, but the food is still not worth it. Pros: great atomosphere, live band, full bar Cons: took forever to sit, expensive, bad value more

Atmosphere elegance service mixed well 10/9/2002

Not the usual food critic. I'm probably pretty light as far as experience goes compared to others. Let me just say that this was one of the best dining experiences ever. Food presentation was great. Service was so quick. I even heard some French accents there. Whatever you get, save room for dessert, because it was sooo great. I ordered the Vanilla Bean Pear Tart w/ Rasberry something...and she ordered the Chocolate Mousse Espresso something...both marvelous We went there because of recommendations from this website. I'm only 24 and she's 21 and we did not feel intimidated at all. Such a comfortable atmosphere for everybody (maybe not kids, though). more

J'aime Jardiniere! 7/29/2002

French food by itself is quite romantic. But with the combination of French and American, you fall right into it. At Jardiniere, you are captivated by your stylish and yet romantic surroundings. You feel right at home with your companion. What can be better than to be with someone you love, eat cuisine that cannot compare to any other, and once in a while look around to see the beautiful restaurant itself. You are indulged as you walk into the martini glass door and don't want to leave! Pros: romantic, good parking, great food Cons: noise, limited space more

Jardelicious 5/13/2002

I had the good fortune of dining at Gary Danko and Jardinere on consecutive nights recently, and have to say the later came out on top. Of course, when it comes to culinary artistry of this magnitude, differences are subtle, but the food here has the midas touch. Pros: Culinary expertise, Presentation, Atmosphere more
