Very rainy day.... sought shelter and a good meal with average pricing being $20.00. First of all, we had to switch tables because the roof leaked....... no big deal because it was pouring and ""stuff happens."" There were three of us so I'll just give you a brief summary: My crab soup had very little crab and tasted like butter or oil, my daughter couldn't even eat her $10 bowl of soup (for the same reason). My salmon was so fishy I couldn't finish it, my mashed potatoes were cold and very average, my vegetables were drenched in butter. My wife ordered tortilla / corn chowder, but was given the same crab soupe instead........ need I say more?? My wife also had a house salad. She said the dressing tasted like milk, having almost no flavor. All this for $64.00!!!! I should have eaten at Subway (upstairs)!!!!!! more

A Complete Waste 1/1/2009

We went to J Pauls with another couple for New Year's Eve. Our friend made the reservation because it was right on the Inner Harbor so we could view the fireworks. I saw some negative reviews but I disregarded them. I wish I didn't. Our seats were right next to the window but it was freezing the entire time. We didn't want to move because we wanted the view so we stuck it out. Our appetizers were pretty good (Mussels and Crab Dip). Next we had Cream of Crab soup whick was ""good, not great."" Ceasar salads were bland and the dressing had a pasty consistency. Everything went downhill with the entrees. The ""Surf and Turf Sliders"" (crabcake and beef) were little dry rocks. The Rockfish came out undercooked. When we sent it back the server told us it is cooked to medium. Are you kidding me? It was remade for us but it was taken home. I ordered a combination of side dishes. The tomato and onion salad had a good flavor. The macaroni and cheese was disgusting. I was really lookin forward to the poblano papper and corn spoonbread but that was the worst thing I had. The consistency was like a rubbery omelet. I should have know it would be bad when it was served in a pool of watery liquid. Gross. The desserts were just as bad. The key lime cheesecake did not have any flavor to it. I had the chocolate schmutz which was described as brownies and icecream with a chocolate ganace. It sounded really good but it was pretty much Little Debbie brownies with freezerburned icecream, Hershey's syrup and RediWhip. I would never recomend J. Paul's the food was terrible. On top of it all, the fireworks were cancelled. Happy New Year. Pros: Location Cons: Everything else more

Worst & Dishonest 7/28/2007

Worst restaurant ever! I had my sister from thousand miles away to visit me. Food might be average at the best but the waitress was so dishonest! I ask the waitress the one order of crabs is for one person (it was for my sister, I am allegic to shell fish). She said yes. When it came out it was 12 crabs. We had 9 bigs of left over Not even half (about 2/3). Do not go to this dishonest a$$ holes! Is that how you treating tourist? Pros: Close to inner hobor Cons: Bad service, dishonest, below average taste. more

I See The Harbor Lights... 6/12/2005

We didn't stay quite long enough at J. Paul's American Bar & Grill to actually see any lights go on at the Inner Harbor(but hey, that's a great idea for our return)as we were only there for lunch and some cocktails before a game at Camden Yards. Truth be told, we spied the J. Paul's Terrace Bar opening up and figured this was a great place to view the harbor, people watch, eat, drink, and enjoy ourselves being fanned by breezes and out of the sun. The food was tasty, the cocktails wonderful, and the vantage point for taking in the sights of The Inner Harbor was superb. We'll definately return here for more of the same. Pros: Good Food, Wonderful Views, Great Bar more
