When I woke up one morning to find my car gone, I called to find out it had been towed by J&J because I forgot to put on my parking sticker. I looked them up online and read the reviews as I was trying to find their location. My first assumption was that these reviews were written by people who were simply upset at the situation of their car being towed, and that was the motive behind the terrible reviews. WRONG.
My driver's license had been accidentally taken by a friend, who was mailing it back to me but I had not received it. I called and the woman on the phone told me a school photo id + insurance would work to verify the car was mine. After I got a ride there, the woman at the office was unbelievably rude to me. She claimed ""nobody would tell you that"" and that they accept state DLs only. I told her there was no way I was mistaken and I wouldn't have searched everywhere for a ride if I thought I wouldn't be able to get my car.
Basically she wouldn't even LOOK at my ID even though it has my picture and full name on it, matching the name on the insurance. I even had credit cards with my name on them. I told her I had my DL number and expiration date and she said it didn't matter because she needed ""other"" information off it.
I politely asked how we could work around the situation and what my options were. She said there were none except having the license of someone else on the insurance. I told her my mom would fax over a copy of her license and she wouldn't let that happen because they ""don't accept copies"". It has to be the real one. I told her my parents live 4 hours away and it was crazy to make them drive all the way down just to show her the original copy. Finally I told her that I didn't want to pay the extra $20 they tack on per day for the car sitting in the lot, since someone on the phone told me it would work and it would take at least a day to get ahold of my DL or my parents to drive down. I said it was their mistake and they needed to give me an extra day. She proceeded to laugh me in the face and said if I didn't pay the extra $20 I wasn't getting my car back. It's obvious these people are in the business of scamming others to try to get the most money out of you possible. When I asked to speak to her manager, she said ""she just left"" and refused to call her.
Eventually the clerk told me she was ""done talking"" to me and to ""read the sign"" if I wanted to know anything because all the information was there. I was so frustrated I started crying and went and sat down on the curb outside. After about 10 minutes I actually read the sign... AND IT DOESNT SAY ""DRIVERS LICENSE"" it says photo id! I went back up to the counter to tell her what the sign said and she had the nerve to tell me ""the sign doesn't say that""!!!
At this point I got really upset and pointed out that, yes, it indeed does say that. I can't believe she had the audacity to argue with me about it! Finally she disappeared for 5 minutes and said ""okay"" and started filling out paperwork. No apology, nothing. She was wrong the whole time obviously. There was absolutely NO reason to be rude to me.
I made an honest mistake and my car got towed. I accept that it was my fault at least partially. However, I'm just a college student trying to pay bills and I need my car to get to work. I wasn't at J&J to be upset at the towing company for doing their job... I just wanted my car back. Whatever happened to the days of ""the customer is always right""?
Also while I was there I overheard a woman upset because the towing company had damaged her vehicle. When she came to claim it, there were several new scratches all along the sides. Be careful... I'd be sure to have some photos of your vehicle's condition... just in case. The staff claimed they take pictures before every tow to prove the condition of the car, but when the woman asked to see them, they refused her because they mysteriously showed up missing. Hmm...
Pros: They tow the cars quickly?
Cons: Rude staff, unprofessional, borderline illegal
