I recently visit J&H stables and loved it. The People were approachable and knew what they were talking about. They answered all my questions that I had. Without a doubt this is the only place I would ever go to ride a horse. The horses all looked like they were in very healthy state! If I was to get a horse this is the only place I would borad my horse! Pros: great people,great horses and great place! more

After seeing other barns, their prices, their staff, and their environment, I am incredibly happy that my family keeps my horse at J & H Stables. Their board fee is afforable and the riding lessons don't break the bank. My horse, who doesn't keep weight on easily, is well fed and receives proper care. The staff take care of the horses as if they were their own and are incredibly friendly to the horses, boarders, lesson kids, and to each other. I found that the lesson instructors areincredibly helpful and i learned a lot more about horses than i ever thought i would. The manager is very helpful and enthusiastic about the progress this barn as made since it's move. The environment is very positive and family-oriented environment. I have been a lesson student at J & H Stables for the past 12 years. After also visiting other barns, I have to say that I have never found a barn that has either the knowledgeable, friendly staff that J & H does or horses that are as well taken care of. The barn manager is an excellent trainer and is also always willing to pass on her knowledge to ensure that your horse will get the best care. In addition to riding lessons, J & H offers an informative summer camp where kids not only learn the basics of riding, but also how to care for the horses. Another service offered is birthday parties. Children always seem to enojy these because while spending time with their friends, they learn how to brush a horse and then have tons of fun doing pony rides. Overall, this barn is one of the best in Raleigh and I recommend it to anyone seeking an excellent place to either board their horse or improve their riding skills. more

My daughter has been involved with J&H for over 5 years now and my daughter and I just love it there. They have a great lesson program for children with all types of wonderful events. The barn manager holds award ceremonies, fun horse shows and learning clinics. They also have summer camps that my daughter has done every year and she just loves them. She has become a great rider over the years with J&H not to mention her experiences there have helped shape her into the wonderful teenager she is now. She often stays at the barn after her lessons to help with birthday parties, grooming, and spending time with the other kids and the horses. They have a very large ring, some trails to ride and the staff is very nice and knowledgeable. All of the horses are well taken after and are trained well. They a do a great job at matching a horse with a child from beginners to advanced that are appropriate for the child's riding ability. Overall the camaraderie is nothing like I have ever seen anywhere else. I see some commented on the barn itself. Yes, J&H North is rustic but that is what gives it so much character! If you are looking for a ""hoity toity"" kind of place, yes go look somewhere else. If you are looking for a down to earth, family run western barn, you have come to the right place. this place is the best place to go if you want a horseback riding experience. although they don't have public trail rides anymore, its still great. the horses are gorgeous and well looked after. the riding ring is very large and in a good open area. the manager is very specific how many horses in each pasture and there are roomy paddocks if your horse doesn't like socializing with other horses. the staff is usually pretty helpful, they just get a little suspicious if someone shows up and they don't know who it is...which is respectable. the barn is a little rough, but they are working on it. it doesn't happen overnight! the summer camp is great...lots of good riding time and they learn the basics of horse care such as grooming and tacking. my daughter absolutely loved it there. she said the counselors were very funny and helpful. also, the prices for everything (boarding, lessons, camp) are the cheapest i could find and very good price for what you get! all in all, this place is great and i completely recommend it to anyone. i found that the barn manager is fantastic help with any training problem i have faced with my horse. J&H horses are used to having barb-wire fences and do not rub on them. These barb wire fences are very useful in keeping the horses in their pastures. The pastures are extremely roomy and the barn manager is very conscious of how many horses go into a pasture to make sure they are not crowded. To have lite arenas, this barn would have to spend money that could be better spent somewhere else. Also, two of the staff members live on barn, and having lite arenas could disturb them, they both work very hard all day and get up very early to get to work, i doubt they want to be disturbed by loud boarders. Communication is key between you and the barn manager at any facility. If the barn manager does not want to communicate with you regarding your concerns about your horse, then she should get out of the business. After spending some time at J&H, I could not recommend this barn. First, the barn manager smokes in her office which is part of the barn and her and a farm hand smoke just ouside the barn near the hay. This occurred on windy days even during the summer draught. This is dangerous. Barb-wire fencing, crowded ""pastures"" (due to pile up of waste) and lack of lighting in arena and no round pen were a turn off. I found the manager seldom followed through with the ""improvements"" she spoke of. She allowed grass to grow in the arena which changed the footing. She'd yell at and belittle her staff and clients in front of others. We're glad to be out of there! Sorry to have to agree that the Creedmoor Road J&H is nothing like the old one at Umstead. Hard to beat the trails at the old place but more important, the staff and facilities at the new place are less than desirable. Worst of all, they have barbwire fence --dangerous. The staff can be cruel and act rather gossipy about other boarders (I was told this is common with new boarders). If you use your vet or farrier, you have to meet them after 5:30 pm--the barn manager is not flexible with this. The location is good. The pastures /horse turn out areas are over-run. The arena is a good size. The trails are ok but often flood if it rains (in a gully). Parking is ok. You have to pay to park your trailer and to have special supplements given. You have to pay for fan use in a stall board. Poor ventilation in the barn. Extra charges to blanket your horse. You end up paying more if you want these services. Found other boarding facilities that include this at or less than what they charge--yes local! Good luck. J&H is a great place to learn how to ride. The riding instructors are great, they can help you with your indvidual needs in your riding. The horses there are well cared for are loved my many people. The staff there are great people and will always make sure your horse is happy. more

J&H is a good place the lessons are fun all most all of the time. As far as boarding there it's an old barn but in good condition it needs some improvements but they are doing them when they can. The water buckets are always full unless they are about to be cleaned wile the horses are inside. They put round bales out in the pasture when they have eaten all the hay out there they put new ones in it my look like there is no hay but there is they just let them eat it down to save hay. They are really good about if your horses needs meds or have to be on a certain diet for health reasons. They have regular vet and farrier visits the farrier comes out every Wednesday. Took several lessons at J&H and a friend boarder there. After several lessons we (class) were not learning anything new so I chose to go to a professional instructor and have learned more in two lessons than in the dozen I took at J&H. There were too many horses in the small areas. They did not rake the piles, which cut down on pasture space. The farmhands and the barn manager were not very approachable--found them to be negative and ignorant in the way they handled situations, esp people. There was too much negative barn politics for such a small place. Says a lot about the people running it. I have met other horse owners who have found other stables where the barn managers enjoy having their horse owners around and share information freely. It is worth your money to look around. My friend no longer has a horse but did end up boarding at another local stable which she and esp her horse loved. Don't expect your horse to get what the barn manager verbalizes to you during your barn tour. Don't count on a certain amount of fresh hay to be provided daily (even when they have it) and don't count on water tubs to be fillled adequately daily (even when the hoses work). Three barn staff were negative and disrespectful, not to mention ignorant. There are other barns that will take good care of your horse without the negativity. Look for a barn where the manager and staff are pleasant and positive--good signs that they actually enjoy what they do. North Raleigh location is easily accessible but expect to be disappointed by the personal service provided. Facilities are below average at best and in need of significant upgrades. There are better facilities in Raleigh for your horse. more

Hey, does anybody know more about this horse? One lady mentioned a NEAT rare Peruvian horse. Is this horse dapple grey? I was told by the vet he is really an Andalusia not an Arabian. Anyway I use to own him. more

I'm not an expert but have taken a year of lessons. This stable has many horses and gorgeous trails but I was let down by the condition of the stables. They were more run-down than I am accustomed to. Not abusively so, but still disappointing. The horses we rode were exhausted. It was late afternoon on a hot day, but with so many horses they could have switched out. Trail-horses are docile but this went beyond that. The stirrups were not able to be adjusted short enough for my legs. (I'm not short at 5'6""!) Staff was polite, but not particularly friendly or helpful with riding skills for my beginner companions. Many horses seemed not to have been groomed that day ... not dirty but not as shiny as I would expect from this well-reputed stable. NEAT rare peruvian horse in the stables though! I think J&H is one of the best stables in raleigh. The horses are well taken care of and the people are friendly. My daughter went to their summer camp for a week and now all she can talk about is J&H and how bad she wants to go back next year! i recomend this stables to anyone that loves to ride and loves horses! more

I fell that J and H is a nice stables I think that the people there are so sweet and you learn a lot about horses even if you are only there for an hour or two. I feel that everyone should go to J and H stables because it is the Best Stable in all of Raleigh more
