A MUST visit 3/21/2007

My friends and I found the place accidentally while we were walking around the neighborhood. The baristas were very knowledgeable. My favorite was an iced cappuccino with added homemade simple syrup. My cousin and I visited with my young daughter. We both agreed the coffee was good. The atmosphere is what one would expect with a good coffee house. Plenty of filled seating - a testament to the shop's success - but the big tables with six or seven chairs were being used by individuals. When we sat down at the opposite end of one of the large tables the person on the other end seemed put out as though he needed the entire table. Pros: Good coffee and atmosphere. Cons: Service and table set up. more

If you're voting for best COFFEE as is the actual COFFEE (bean/roast/brewed product) it's no question, especially when it comes to straight 'spro, traditional cappas and cups of varietals. Metropolis might be right behind on espresso, but Intelly still has the lead. Pros: service, quality of espresso roasts, traditional cappuccinos Cons: Best service only at their own retail locations, other shops serving Intelly not up to same standards. more

Quality coffee and tea - and try the scones! 5/31/2005

I love the coffee, and I can't help but notice that the folks there take great pains to keep it fresh and tasting great. They really are serious about quality control!! Obviously they apply this to other things they do - their tea is also high quality, and when my boss tried the scones at their Jackson/Dearborn store downtown, she raved about them for days! Seems this attention to detail is finally getting them noticed - it was great to see them featured on the Food channel for their latte art. Pros: super fresh coffee, knowledgeable staff Cons: not in Edgewater yet more

Excellent Coffee 5/29/2005

Recently was introduced to this coffee and truly impressed I am. If I resided in Chicago, I'd be there EVERYDAY. But, instead, I can order it as often as I like and have it delivered to my doorstep. Awesome stuff! more

Intelligentsia rocks!! I stock up when I travel to Chicago, and have it shipped all the way out here to New Mexico the rest of the year - they are really that good. The in-store staff is knowledgeable, helpful and friendly and the shipping staff is just as outstanding. It is always a pleasure to deal with these folks - almost as much a pleasure as drinking their coffee!!! more

I just don't get it. They serve intelligensia at many places in my neighborhood and it is not very good. however at the broadway location the coffee is ok. Pros: fun location, nice people Cons: parking hard, coffee inconsistant more

Intelligentsia is not only the best in Chicago. It is one of the best in the country. A few well known coffee shops in Seattle cant even top it. We, Chicagoans are lucky to have Intelligentsia in our city. more

A little Intelligensia goes a long way 5/23/2005

and that is south, to Kentucky. when I fly to Chicago, it comes home with me, and when I cannot get there, they send me lots of great new selections. I also made sure that when a local coffee shop was opening in town, the proprietors listened to my suggestion to go with this fine coffee. They have not been sorry, and neither will you! My first stop any Chicago morning is the shop on Broadway....love it! more

I've loved this place since they opened. Even when I moved away, I still mail order from here and get better coffee than what I can find in Manhattan. Pros: freshness, variety, image Cons: only in Chicago more

Oh, come on! Intelligencia is an OK coffee shop, but in no way the best! This is not fair for all the other amazing cafes in Chicago! I never have the urge to go to Intelligencia. more

What specialty coffee should be.... 5/19/2005

Many roasters claim they have the best beans, but when it comes down to it, the only place in Chicago where you can get really special coffee is Intelligentsia. During my 10+ years in the coffee business I have never come across so many incredible, rare coffees in one place. I live in an outlying neighborhood in the city, yet I make sure to bring all visitors to the cafe on Broadway. What a great impression of Chicago! Pros: Close to CTA, Great people watching, Fabulous product more

Move over Starbucks 5/16/2005

I can imagine what the original Starbucks in Seattle started out like years ago. Great coffe house that truly appreciated the art of a great cup of coffee. It was served by employees that worked there because they felt a part of the company and new what it was all about. Friendly, efficient, a wealth of knowledge about the product, and a passion for what they did. Its a shame Starbucks got away from that. But its great for Chicago that Intelligentsia employees have taken up the torch! There is a reason why so many great restaurants are now using Intelligentsia coffee for thier customers also...its GREAT COFFEE!
