Avoid IVEC 5/21/2010

Do not go to IVEC unless you have absolutely no other possibility, which is unlikely because there are now several Emergency Vet Hospitals in the Indianapolis area. Clearly, Dr. Speiser is an excellent veterinarian. And there is no question that Emergency Vet Hospitals need to charge more for their extended hours and expanded array of services. However, Dr. Speiser has developed a brilliant, diabolical, and predatory business plan that extracts the maximum payment possible from all clients.\r The first step in the IVEC process is for the staff to treat their clients as though they are ignorant about their pets, insensitive and unaware of what is happening, and no matter what illness or accident has befallen your pet, you are somehow at fault. This process does two things: (1) establishes a clear superiority-inferiority relationship and (2) makes the pet owner feel extremely guilty. Both are important for the next step.\r No matter what problem your pet obviously may have, there is more

Thanks for saving my little man! 3/23/2010

My pup had parvo and we had to rush him up to IVEC because our vet was unavailable that weekend. I felt like they were great with his treatment. He was able to come home the next evening. I was able to call all hours of the day and night if I wanted and always had someone call me back in a reasonable amount of time and made me feel very comfortable being so far way and not able to do anything for my little guy. I do agree that there needs to be some other option to help pay for these bills. I couldn't even leave him there unless I has 700 up front to give them and I did think money was the first thing on their minds if you couldn't come up with it right then and there. Our total bill was almost $1300 and not everyone can just write a check for that! Thankfully we had care credit. Otherwise we would of had to have him put down. This is a great option to take our pets. I just think their needs to be a little more compasion for those who dont have the care credit option and can't afford more

IVEC IS A FIRST CLASS TEAM! 3/7/2010

This is a 1st class team of caring professionals from the front desk to the emergency room. Two years ago our local vet referred us to IVEC when our 6 year old pug suddenly became extremely ill. The IVEC Team wasted no time in admitting our little guy to start examining him and running tests to find out what was causing him to feel so bad. They kept our little guy overnight and the next morning we received a call from the phenomenal Dr. Speiser. Dr. Speiser informed us that our pug had a very severe case of pancreatitis and recommended a very complex surgery in which he would personally perform which consisted of inserting a feeding tube to bypass the pancreas so we would be able to continue feeding him without further irritating his pancreas. Dr. Speiser was very honest and open with us about the complexity of this surgery and provided us with a estimate over the phone. At this time, we had no other options for our little guy - If you google canine pancreatitis it is often fatal more

IVEC saved my parvo pup!! This is a great place! 2/9/2010

I have been changed! I was always a guy that would "recycle" my pets. I did not have any interest in spending much money to save a pet. That all has changed. I have a Mastiff pup that is 12 weeks old and I had to rush him to this Emergency clinic Saturday morning even as bad as the roads were and they took great care for him. He had parvo and I feared he would not make it but instead I was able to take my puppy home 24 hours later like new. Please take a look at the Blood Donor Program as well. This is a great thing to do and it could really help you and your pet! more

Helping Animals? If the price is right! 2/7/2010

Just yesterday my father had called me with the news that our dog had got cut by something.. ( Siberian husky ). Our dog needed to go to the emergency vet. Although she was hurt, she was able to still run but not add pressure to that leg, never barked or complained. Well, he took her to IVEC needing something done quickly. Once he was there they charged him 300 off the bat. This wasn't a big problem my dad had no problem with paying that to bring home our dog. He figured the bone isnt even fractured or anything, she will be fine. Well, after already charging him that much money and said "This will be easy, just need to clean her up and put a couple of stitches in her." My dad had relief that our dog was going to be okay. Shortly after they came back in with another bill that totaled out to 2,500 dollars. He was in disbelief that to put stitches in the dog that wasn't even in that bad of shape it was going to cost that much... He had informed them that he had been out of work fo more

BEWARE: IVEC Indianapolis is BAD... 1/27/2010

BEWARE: IVEC Indianapolis Veterinary Emergency Center, south-side:\r AVOID THIS PLACE! \r \r I agree with others who had terrible experiences here. Check other review web sites to see a litany of complaints and bad reviews.\r \r In our opinion, they were EXTREMELY SLOW in an emergency situation, though they weren't busy. The vet was inexperienced, had a condescending, aloof attitude, and seemed more interested in robbing us. They charged much more than their estimate which was immoral and dishonest. The rude boy working the cash register argued with me and literally flung the pen and paperwork at me. (it is crass and stupid to agitate angry customers) Prices at IVEC are terrible!\r \r The Better Business Bureau letter that they have in their lobby refers to "Indianapolis Veterinary Referral" not "IVEC" which is strange. If you need to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, be sure to mention both names.\r \r We recommend 'Indiana Veterinary Specialists & Emergency Center' on Bash St more

Pet owners BEWARE!! 1/26/2010

Pet owners BEWARE!! \r My 12 week old puppy came to me with Pneumonia. My primary vet had him on multiple medications that were helping. He was getting better and it was showing in his demeanor. Our vet warned us that if he quits eating than something is wrong. On a Sunday morning, He stopped eating. Our vet was not open on the weekend, so we had to use the IVEC center in Beech Grove. We got to the office and they took my pup back to try to get his breathing stable to get an xray. They told us that one of the 3 antibiotics may have been bad, but did not seem horribly concerned. When the doctor came in, we were given a $2,000 dollar estimate. They told us that they were going to keep him over night to do the expensive procedure. By this time, we already had to dish out $800.00 before they would move forward with any procedure. We went back before we left to see him. he was standing and wagging his tail in a FISH TANK!! with a tube attatched to it!...we left him at the vet worried, but more

Indianapolis Veterinary Emergency Center is a Pet's Haven 11/27/2009

I find it hard to believe that anyone could write a bad review of this place. IVEC fights for Pet's well being. What I think is the people out there are trying to justify their own shortcommings when it comes to caring for their pet. They agreed to take care of an animal and then, when it comes to actually doing so they balk at expense and expect everything to be free. I know for a fact that anytime I brought my cat in they always consult with me and even have me approve or dissapprove and sign an estimate prior to doing any major work on my pet. I either agree to let them do the work or I don't depending on MY affordability at the time. Those complainers out there apparently expect the doctors and staff should work 12 shifts Day and Night, and be open 24/7 for nothing. Well all I can say to that is how would you like to go without Pay? Could you survive? Could you keep your doors open? Could you provide for equipment they use or even pay the electric bill? From all I have seen IVEC is more

Indianapolis Veterinary Emergency Center is an Animal Auschwitz. 11/22/2009

VERY INTERESTING....how customer reviews are mysteriously erased from this IVEC page if they receive a rating under 2 stars......but I am not surprised in the least. If you know what is good for your animal you would NOT take them to IVEC. How sad that people actually base a "five-star" review on this clinic solely upon the fact that this clinic hosts and annual Pet Carnival. oh wow...Maybe you should give props to animal organizations that actually care about animals and their owners (instead of this clinic that is funded by preying on people who are desperate to help their pets in emergency situations...and will charge thousands of dollars conducting unnecessary tests and procedures....) When an animal suddenly becomes ill many pet owners are willing to do whatever they can to help their animal. IVEC sees these people coming a mile away. The staff at this facility seems to have mastered using guilt and fear to coerce pet owners in to agreeing to so-called "mandatory" testing. more

Indianapolis Veterinary Emergency Center is #1 11/20/2009

I got online to write a review and was shocked at all of the negative reviews !! I have been dealing with IVEC for over a year now and have received excellent professional care for my Yorkie. There is only a handful of doctors that have the skills, training and expertise to help my Yorkie with her breathing issues. Was it expensive?, you betcha, was it worth it? absolutely..... I have even asked my IVEC vet to do several of the procedures at bare bones cost and he had no problem with that. We still go back for check ups to make sure everything is going as planned and everytime I go to IVEC I am welcomed by the great gals at the front desk and the communicators do a fabulous job as well. I LOVE my Yorkie more than anything in this world and if I questioned the care that she received at IVEC I would not take her. I have taken Animal 1st Aid classes at IVEC, they have a doggie festival in the summer, they have animal blood drives should your pet need blood. The pictures of pe more

Indianapolis Veterinary Emergency Center is a good place! 11/20/2009

I have taken multiple pets to IVEC and had great success with their work. It is an emergency hospital and like any emergency room sometimes there is a waiting period. However, the service and the staff are top notch. I am very grateful that my "babies" are here and healthy due to the care from IVEC and it's staff. more

Indianapolis Veterinary Emergency Center is a wonderful place! 11/13/2009

This is a wonderful place to take your pet when you need quality emergency care. My mini dachshund had two discs rupture in her back and had paralysis setting in. Dr. Speiser performed surgery on her, and she is well on her way to recovery. She is walking, abeit a bit shaky, but she is getting better and better every day. They worked with me to get her therapy, and their staff was very loving and caring with Dixie. She was always happy to see them, and I felt that she was in good hands. I am positive that it was the skill of Dr. Speiser and their physical therapist Amy, that saved Dixie. I would recommend them to all who need the best emergency care. more

Indianapolis Veterinary Emergency Center is mediocre at best 8/3/2009

Yes, they are expensive, but this is a 24 hour emergency clinic and not a 9-5 day clinic so I can understand why they'd have to charge more. However, we spent several thousand dollars trying to get a diagnosis for our very sick 4 month old puppy after our local vet referred us there. He was sent home with a relatively healthy diagnosis, only for us to find out when we took him to a different local vet that he had an extremely rare condition that was slowly killing him. So yes, they have all the tools to do the work, but they still don't seem equipped to deal with the rare stuff, yet they'll charge you several thousand dollars for a wrong diagnosis. However, the staff were really nice and our puppy did really enjoy being there. more

my cat was allergic to ketamine.told them not to give it to him . they did. he died and they still charged me 12/16/2007

this was absolutely was 1 of the worst experiences of my life. i made the terrible mistake of taking my cat bob to this terrible place.4 years ago bob went to his box and couldn't go to the bathroom. he was straining and crying and i knew i had to do something quick.the reason why it has taken me this long to write about this is - i was told by my vet there was nothing i could do and it really has taken me this long to be able to talk about it. i went through the phone book and found the closest 24 hr clinic.i called them and immediately was their fees. i didnt care about cost, i just wanted him better. i rushed him there,pd the down payment as soon as i arrived and then they started asking questions.i was very upset but remembered that he was very allergic to ketamine. i told them WHATEVER you do DONT give him ketamine-he was given it as a kitten and his eyes rolled back for 3 days.bob was now 10.the person doing his chart said i am so glad you told us that and specifially wrote on his chart "ALLERGIC TO KETAMINE".the next day they called and said that i could pick him up- he was very sleepy but ready to go home.i paid the rest of the bill and when i went back to get him-his head fell in his water bowl and i said what did you give him-they looked at the chart and said "ketamine".i was in shock,i couldnt even talk-i picked him up out of the cage and brought him home.a friend said- he looks bad-you need to call them- so they said he needed some supplement and i went back and got it for $12.00 more and rushed home to give it to him. he died in bed with me that night. i think the bill was about 1,700-i never got any money back or even a sympathy card. dont ever take your animals here.it was total negligence and i hope it keeps you from taking your pet there.i was told by my reg vet that when you sign that release it even releases them from negligence.so l lost my baby and a lot of $.i will continue to post everywhere i can to warn people. jeff horton Pros: none Cons: complete negligence more

Indianapolis Veterinary Referral 11/27/2006

We used this service when we were looking for a vet to take care of our snake. They were most helpful in locating a vet who specialized in reptiles. I would certainly recommend them if looking for a speciality vet. more
