My animals are well taken care of in this office

Worst

Yes, they are expensive, but this is a 24 hour emergency clinic and not a 9-5 day clinic so I can understand why they'd have to charge more. However, we spent several thousan...

Worst! 1/29/2013

I used to be happy to have an emergency vet nearby....until I had an actual emergency. \r \r I walked into their clinic yesterday morning expecting help, not to be charged $90 for absolutely nothing.\r \r I am pregnant and in early labor when my kitty started throwing up blood. I immediately took him to IVEC. All they did was take his temperature and quote me an outrageous amount for x-rays and blood work. I immediately started crying. There was no way I could pay them that. So instead of offering me Care Credit or some kind of payment plan....they sent me on my way.\r \r I went to Georgetown Vet Hospital where the very caring vet did x-rays before asking any financial questions. They found that my boy's intestines were wrapped around each other from a string he ate. He is having surgery this morning. \r \r My kitty could die because IVEC is more concerned with their bottom line than helping animals. I didn't ask for free service, I asked for help for my little guy. Why would you become a vet more

PLEASE READ AND BEWARE!!!! 7/16/2012

If I could give less than one star I would. After our pet went in for surgery we were lied to and mislead all this lead to her death. We still can not get all of her records from them. We were under pressure and they made us "believe" the surgery was necessary for survival. We now know this wasn't true. We have also learned of Dr. Speiser's record he currently is on probation with the state Veterinarian Board and also has criminal charges for MURDERING A DOG!!! The charges include torturing!!! This is all public record that I wish more than anything someone would have told us about because our dog would still be here today. In fact the record with the Vet board is VERY LONG. \r \r Here is why he is on probation now and facing criminal charges as well\r \r http://www.in.gov/apps/pla/litigation/viewer.aspx?id=19788\r \r Here is a list of all filed with the board\r http://www.in.gov/apps/pla/litigation/searchresults.aspx?mode=adv\r \r The criminal charges are public record that can be found more

LOVE The Blood Donor Program! 4/9/2012

We have taken all 4 of our dogs to IVEC for the past 4 or 5 years now as members of their blood donor program and have never been anything but extremely happy with the services we have received. The Tech's that run the program are TOP NOTCH at what they do, not to mention loving and caring. This program not only provides beneficial services to animals in the surrounding area, but beyond Indiana as well. In addition, they have a wonderful therapeutic rehabilitation program with a super Vet Tech that is certified in aqua therapy. One of our dogs has had 2 bouts of cancer and the specialty surgeon there did a fantastic job both times saving his life. I was sad to find out she is no longer there however. I do agree with many comments that the prices are on the higher side, however as a blood donor, we get 40% off our care, which makes things a little easier. In addition, our pups are our furry kids and we do whatever we need to to keep them going. We love the Blood Donor program, A more

Awesome Emergeny Vet!! 1/9/2012

The staff and facility is great! Everyone is very helpful and would answer questions anytime of day about our dog. I am so thankful to have been referred to IVEC after our dog was hit by a car. They went above and beyond to mend him and get him back to his old self. I can't thank them enough. I highly recommend their emergency vet services. more

Great care and support! 1/4/2012

Great care for pets and their owners. Dr. Speiser and his staff scheduled emergency surgery for our dog on a weekend, kept us informed of her progress and made sure we had complete instructions when we took her home. She's now healthy and happy. We recommend IVEC to all pet lovers in need of emergency or specialty care. more

Happy with the outcome 1/3/2012

The Indianapolis Vet Med is wonderful place to bring your pet in case of an emergency. Dr. Neyenhaus was the doctor who stich my dog's wound perfectly. She was great. Thank you!!! more

BEWARE 12/17/2011

I cannot believe what I just read about IVEC, 5425 Victory Drive, Indianapolis, Indiana on http://mobile.fox59.com\r ****BEWARE, DO NOT TAKE YOUR ANIMALS TO IVEC!!!!!**\r This was posted on Friday, September 30, 2011 @ 12:12 PM:\r Indianapolis--An Indianapolis veterinarian is charged with beating a vertebrate animal, after police said he hit a dog in the face during surgery. According to the probable cause affidavit, two veterinary technicians with the Indianapolis Veterinary Emergency Center contacted the Indianapolis Animal Care and Control on a complaint of animal cruelty. The veterinary technicians said they were assisting Dr. James Speiser with rhinoscopy procedure on a 6-year-old Great Pyrenees dog back in May. In the procedure, a thin, tube-like instrument is inserted through the nose for examination. The workers told police while the dog was sedated, Speiser attempted to insert a scope up the dog's nose. One of the workers said the dog sneezed and stated ti was common to do so. Th more

ANIMAL LOVERS BEWARE!!! 12/17/2011

Animal Lovers BEWARE! Pros: null Cons: null more

STAY AWAY IF YOU LOVE YOUR PET 7/21/2011

DO NOT USE THIS PLACE! There is a WONDERFUL emergency vet clinc AIRPORT ANIMAL HOSPITAL - worth the 10-15 minute drive from IVEC. Sadly, another amazing dog passed away due to the incompetency of this clinic. They may have pet carnivals to get their name out there, but the substandard care and the over the top outrageous cost are far more important than any pet carnival. BEWARE. \r They can't diagnose worth a damn... awful that this place remains in business. Wouldnt use them if they were the only medical clinic in the city. more

All about the money 7/17/2011

Does anyone else find it interesting that IVEC is now called Indianapolis Veterinary Med? It makes it very hard to find the reviews because of the name change. Also, the web address is now a .biz Does this mean that they have given up all pretense of being an animal hospital and admitted that they are just there to get your cash?\r \r The IVEC has changed drastically in the last few years. They have always been uber-expensive, but did not used to be all about the money. We took our dog there because of some respiratory problems (of course, it happened when our regular vet was closed) and were immediately told he needed an operation. We had an estimate in excess of $4,000 within the first fifteen minutes we were there. We were strong-armed into agreeing to this without a second opinion. "Do you want more happy years with your beloved pet or not?" the vet asked us. Shocked and weeping, we agreed. But, our pet did not need an operation after all. He needed x-rays and blood tests more

Only interested in making money, not helping your pet! 4/17/2011

First and foremost, avoid this place at absolutely all cost!! If you find yourself needing a vet at odd hours over the weekend, go elsewhere unless it's a dire emergency. There is a great 24/7 vet on the westside and one up on the northeast side. \r \r My 6 month old cat had gotten ill over the weekend , so because my vet was closed, I chose IVEC (even though my Vet's recording said to go to the westside location in the event of an emergency). Beech Grove was closer to my Southside location. Zig had been vomitting every four-six hours since Saturday morning. It was a white to yellow foam. She also was not eating or drinking much, but otherwise totally happy and playful. Showed up at IVEC on Sunday morning, and there was not another "patient" there. Waited 20 minutes for the exam room, 20 minute for the vet tech, and then 30 minutes for Dr. Laura Smith to make her entrance. \r \r Although everyone agreed that Zig looked to be in good shape, happy and otherwise healthy, she wanted t more

They saved my best friend's life 3/17/2011

My pets have gone to them for years. They have always been there when I needed them most. They have saved my Molly more times than I can mention. They saved my best friend's life and without them and the help of Dr. James Speiser my Molly would not be here today. I will always be greatful to them for all the years of support and friendship, and for returning to me my greatest treasure. Thank you IVEC for all of your help. more

IVEC saved my dogs life!! 1/29/2011

Last Saturday I had to take my 3 year English Bulldog to IVEC. She had ate a whole bottle of baby aspirins. I called my family vet and because it was a saturday afternoon they were closed. So I rushed her to the IVEC. This was my first experience with them and they were GREAT!! They put my dog on an IV and kept her for the night to flush out her system. They took GREAT care of her and she is now back to her normal self. I can not THANK the staff enough for saving her life. Yes it was expensive but they gave me estimates of the prices every step of the way. I look at it as if I were to have to go to the hospital for an emergency, its expensive and I have medical insurance. So of course they are going to have to charge more. I am just so thankful for the IVEC! If they were not there around the clock I may not have my wonderful pet who means the world to me. more

Hurt Leg 1/23/2011

My 17lb Fox Terrier hurt her foot last night. I took her to this vet because it was on the South side. If I would have just called my vet first, I would have known ahead of time that they recommend the emergency on the West side (quite a long drive, but now I see why). The place was empty, my dog was the only one to be seen. The Dr. came in and examined my dog, and said that she needed to take her to the back to do an orthopedic exam and xrays on her leg. I felt that the xray was ok, but she just examined her right in front of me. (I agreed) my dog was in pain if her foot was touched, but was resting comfortable with us holding her. They took her to another room, 1 1/2 hrs later, the Dr. said she felt a fracture in her foot, and they will do the xray, and give her pain meds. (it would cost 423.00). So, we are still waiting, now it has been 3 1/2 hrs, I start to get nervous, and demand to see my dog. They took me to the back where I find my dog in a cage with an E collar, pant more

Very few complaints 9/18/2010

We took my beagle there for a second opinion, aside from a 45 minute wait in the exam room initially: it was a "positive" experience. The examination was complete and the vet printed out a list of all the options and costs. The vet we had was very supportive and once the decision was made she did not keep pushing us for other options. We unfortunately had to put my dog down, but the staff was very kind through the whole process. I appreciated the professionalism they exhibited. more

AWFUL PEOPLE! 9/16/2010

Do not EVER go to these crooks! They are not in the business of helping pet owners. They are in the business of extracting as much money as they can. If you go in for an emergency, get ready to hear about things such as "the gold standard" of care. They make you feel as though anything less is wrong. \r I had a dog that had been attacked. After convincing me to save her (which was WRONG. She should have been put down) They operated and sent her home with massive head swelling and tubes sticking out of her head in 4-5 places, never telling me this ahead of time. She would not take her pills, and had to be put down locally as her infections came back, or just got worse. I'm not convinced they were gone. Long story short, after getting over $2000 from me, I filed a complaint with the state. The vets LIED on their response just to cover themselves. DO NOT TRUST THEM. There are so many good and honest veterinarians out there. Please go to one of them instead. more

Loving, caring and compassionate 9/6/2010

I have read the reviews good and bad. It amazes me that others can attack this company. My dog went into shock and almost died. She had a disorder where where immune system decided that her platelets were bad and decided to rid her body of all of her platelets. The staff of IVEC/IVR saved her life. It is as simple as that. Without the loving and caring staff and the compassion of its doctors I would have been saying goodbye versus "would you like a treat?". The staff of IVEC/IVR is the most loving, caring and knowledgeable veterinary hospital I have come across. To brutally attack them it makes me wonder what those people have done to them that elicits that much anger. You get what you pay for. In my case I paid to save the life of my beautiful wonderful companion who has given me love and affection for 13 1/2 years. I felt that I owed it to her as she is worth it. I cannot thank them enough, nor will I ever stop. more

IVEC/IVR ROCKS ! ! ! ! 6/8/2010

Kudos to IVEC/IVR\r The doctors and staff at Indianapolis Veterinary Referral and Emergency Center are top notch. Never have I been to a more professional veterinary hospital. Dr. Speiser and Dr. Smith diagnoses my 15 year old cat with nasal lymphosarcoma. We began chemotherapy and within a few weeks, she was back to normal as we could hope. She had absolutely no side effects from her chemo (although I understand some can) and she was happy and healthy until she died of heart complications a year and a half later. Her cancer never returned. \r The nursing staff spoiled her rotten (feeding her a favorite food every time she meowed). The staff was so caring and the receptionist all new us be name within the first few treatments.\r I cannot thank the doctors and staff enough for giving me extra time with Kiki. Thank you all! more

Beech Grove Emerg. Hosp lack of treatment 5/31/2010

My 5 yr dog had an infection & was on medication prior to getting her from animal Shelter last week, she was seen by the Beech Grove Animal Clinic before I could adopt her. I spent $100.00 dor meds due to an infection. Her vomiting became worse so I took her to Bean Blossom in Nashville IN, she was given 2 shots and some different meds for her infection. HE ONLY CHARGED ME $12.00 FOR EVERYTHING. The next night she came down with 104.9% fever and I was forced to take her Beech Grove Emerg. Hospital, the first thing they wanted to do was do a blood test, which I thought should have been to give her meds to get her fever down. Then 1 1/2 hr later came in and said she had a infection but did not know why. THATS WHY SHE HAS A FEVER A SAID. They wanted to put her on an IV, claimed she was dehidrated, SHE WAS NOT. I was so upset because all they talked about was money. I told them to give her something for her fever but the vet stated she could not, she need to do Xrays first and keep her fo more
