Best chowder? Definitely Debatable.. 10/13/2006

Checked this place out after Bobby Flay challenged Ben (the Chowder guy) on his Throwdown show. He lost on the show to Bobby and I will go into depth about why but first, the place... At first, the restaurant looked like a typical neighborhood joint with tikki lights and surfboards as decorative ornaments. You also walk around in sand. The worst part was that were expecting good chowder and this place did not deliver. I had the Bahamian chowder (supposedly their bread winner) but it was tasteless, watery and non reminiscent of what a good chowder should be. Unfortunately I can't comment about much else since I didn't order a meal but the coffee was bitter and served cold! I would not return. more

A Sandbox of Filth 7/25/2006

The moment we stepped in the door and onto the industrial sand littering the floor, (both inside and in the garden area), we should have been clued in that this was not a place for dining. Although the food could have been worse, the swarming flies were enough to turn one's stomach. One wonders how they clean the sand-floor: shovel, wash, and re-apply? I do not recommend this establishment if you want to walk out feeling clean. Pros: cant think of any Cons: filthy floors, swarming flies, sub-par food more

Bad Meal, Bad Service 5/28/2006

Went to Hurricane last night for dinner. Have been in the past and even when it was in a much smaller location and when it was exceedingly better. Took the waiter forever to notice us and we even had the tables in the front window. The drinks took around 20+ mins after the waiter finally took the order and food even longer. The glasses were all encrusted with food. Lobster roll was incredibly small and for once I was happy for that becuase it was so awful. They never brought the chowder ordered even when asked twice. The waiter apologized for all the problems but never even offered anything and had to be reminded to take off the nonexistent chowder from the bill. Will never go there again. Cons: bad service, bad food more

Just a nice place to go to. 5/8/2006

This place was small but just adorable. I felt like i was at an actual beach house. The crowd was very artsy and trendy but laid back. I didnt try the food but did try the drinks which were very good, the menu was mostly seafood at reasonable prices. I think its best to go on a sunny day since the doors are opened and you could sit in one of the tables in the front. I went late at night but will go there again soon. The staff was also nice. Pros: ambiance, prices more

Unfortunately named at this time of year, but ... 9/21/2005

I like this place- it's not an everyday sort of hangout , but once in a while it's fun . The beach amosphere is good escape, all that's missing is the smell of sun tan lotion , lol . I haven't tried the food, I just just stick to the cheap brew. A good place to bring out of town friends too . Worth checking out. Pros: atmosphere, cheap beer more

Hopeful for some attention 8/17/2005

The only redeeming thing about this restaurant is the atmosphere. Sand under your feet, tiki lights on the wall, and surf boards generate a chill environment. Other than that, I was not impressed. Our waiter would not pay attention to us, no matter HOW hard we tried. Even though the place wasn't crowded, it took about 40 minutes for appetizers to come out, and about an hour for the lobster. We had to tackle our waiter to get our drinks refilled. The food is OVERPRICED and even though the lobster roll was tasty, it was literally bite sized and not worth 15$. I would no go again. Pros: Good Atmosphere, Blue Point on Tap, Cheap Beer Cons: Horrible Service, Overpriced Food, Don't accept Credit more
