She's been in business for decades with 3/11/2013

She's been in business for decades with reason. They tailor your clothes so that they fit perfectly. Prices are reasonable and she also is an expert with jeans. more

DO NOT GO TO HOPE""S 10/26/2009

She quoted me $20-$30 on the phone. Once the pants where finished she told me it would be $57!!!! For tiny unlined no detail pants. I brought her the matterial and had a pattern. She said she never quoted a price and told me that if I didn't want the pants that is fine she has already wasted to much time with me. VERY RUDE! Pros: It should be no stars Cons: waste of time and money more

Excellent, fast, and knowledgeable service at Hope's Tailor Shop 10/9/2008

I have been visiting Hope's Tailor Shop for a few months. Started out with business suit tailoring and ended up needing an emergency take-in of my tuxedo for a wedding. I have always been happy with the outcome of my suits. Hope has altered 5 suits this year and every single one was perfect. Pros: Great fitting clothes, close to downtown, knowledgeable staff more

Unfortunate Experience 4/3/2008

I recently used the very kind lady at Hope Tailors to alter four suits i recently purchasd for almost 3,000.00 total. Only one of the suits was close to being right and the others were simply atrocious. I kid you not, one of the suit pants were so short there wer four inches between my ankle and the fabric... I looked like a clown.... a clown in a wrecked 600 dollar Hugo Boss suit. I am reasonable and often choose to avoid conflict at all costs. In this scenario i remained calm and simply mentioned they looked a tad short. She profusely apologized and said, ""OH MY, I HAVE NO IDEA HOW THIS COULD HAVE HAPPENED!"". I just reassured her and said its ok we all make mistakes i'm sure we can fix this. In the end, one of the four i am satisfied with, two i can live with but they are not perfect, and the final one was so badly shortened the first time that there wasn't enough fabric to make the length right. So, i contacted the Hugo Boss store where i purchased my suits to order the same pair of pants, which she agreed to pay for and..... they only sell them as a pair........... So, now bc i do not want her to have to buy me an entirely new suit i will have to have the manager of the HB store find me a pair of pants that will make what was once intended to be a suit coat..... a blazer. So, long story short, i am sad that this has all transpired and regret having written this 100 percent accurate account of my experience minus emotion, bc i know it may hurt her business, but if i'd read an account like this i would probably have 4 gorgous well fitted business suits in my closet. Instead, i have a hodge podge of shoddy tailored suits. Business men, i emplore you.. if you want your suits to fit right, find another tailor. Hopefully this posting will save another person from having the same experience as mine. Pros: The woman who owns the shop is very kind Cons: Terrible work more

Waaaaaay overpriced! 8/10/2007

I needed an unlined cotton sundress hemmed 1-1/2 inches....I stopped by hope based on the good reviews, and the fact it's in my neighborhood. The work seems fine (of course, a hem isn't exactly brainsurgery) but whoa- I was blown away at the price- $30!!! For a 1-1/2 inch hem? No lining? Geez. The dress itself cost barely more than that! Pros: Quick turnaround Cons: Overpriced more

Great price, renewed wardrobe after losing weight 6/29/2007

Hope's Tailor Shop is in my neighborhood so I gave it a try. I lost 2 dress sizes over the past couple of months and had a lot of clothes in my closet that I didn't want to get rid of just yet. I took 2 dresses, 2 suits, and 3 pairs of blue jeans for the tailor to adjust to my new size, and I'm glad I did! I was really happy with the overall look of the clothes - everything looked great and since then I've returned with more items that she has also altered and made to look wonderful for me. Pros: great prices, great location, excellent turnaround, great fit Cons: n/a more

Very happy with service and tailoring 4/30/2007

I was very happy with Hope's Tailor Shop. She fixed a bridesmaids dress for me that was a little loose around the waist and bust, and was able to have it finished for me on time and it fit great! I also took in a pair of pants for hemming right before I left town ( about 3 days before leaving) and she was the only tailor shop that would complete them for me on such quick notice. I called around first and checked with other shops but she was the only one who was willing to take them on such short notice. I have since recommended other friends and I'm glad that I found someone in south Austin who does this great service. I'm sure I'll be returning because I have more clothes that needs altering. Pros: Great turn-around time, excellent quality work more

Poor workmanship, bait and switch pricing, and lies to cover up increases from quoted price. Stay away. 4/3/2007

Took my leather coat with a 4"" rip in the armpit where the old thread had worn out in to be resewn. (No tear in the leather, just the thread came out.) Pros: besides location... none Cons: poor workmanship, dishonest business, inflating of price after they had the clothes. more

Really great fit on business suits and jackets 12/15/2006

I have been a loyal customer of Hope's Tailor Shop for over 10 years. Every few months I have her adjust my business suits, jackets, hem pants, and I've even had her make a set of curtains for my house. I have always been very satisfied with her services. She is a very friendly tailor and I've had nothing but positive experiences with her shop. It's why I keep going back - she's only minutes from downtown and in a convenient location. Whenever anyone asks for a recommendation she's the only person I recommend. She is very experienced and knows how to make me look good! Pros: Great location, fast service, always happy with finished product more

Look Elsewhere 11/5/2006

They are nice, but do terrible work. She left a huge gap between the hook and the zipper on the back of my dress. Pros: Nice Cons: Terrible Work more

Terrible Job 10/20/2006

I should not believe those people who left positive ratings. She did a terrible job. My jacket was ruined. I took to another tailor to change her sloppy job but it could not be fixed any more. This is the worst tailor shop in town. You will be sorry if you go there. more

DO NOT GO! YOU WILL REGRET! 10/19/2006

I bought a suit for Jos. A. Bank. I took the suit to Hope Alteration. Ms. Hope told me to pick it up in a week and it would cost me $76. On the day she told me to pick up, I drove half an hour to her shop. She told me the suit was not ready yet. I was not very happy because she could have called me and let me know. However, I didn't say anything and left. I went to her place again the next afternoon. The suit did not fit. She insisted that the suit was fine. She did a terrible job on my new suit. I told her I would pay her just to end this. She pulled out a bill which was $108, which is $32 more than what she told me. She said that she forgot to put something on the old invoice. You can imagine how upset I was. She ruined my $500 suit. Plus, now she is asking for more money. I went to her shop yesterday and she did not tell me anything about this. I told her I would pay for the old bill but not the new one. She was not happy at all and grabbed my credit card from my hand. I paid and left. When I was in my car check the suit, the button on the suit fell out. The way Ms. Hope handles her business makes me very upset. It is so bad that it is beyond my imagination. I drove there three times, which took me three hours. I also paid $76 got her to ruin my $500 suit. Now, I have to spend another $100 to get another tailor to clean her mess. DO NOT GO! YOU WILL REGRET! more

Very good job and very nice lady 10/17/2006

I had Hope hem some of my dress pants and she did a very professional job. I would definitely recommend this place. Pros: Very professional job more

Great Fit, great customer service and quick help 6/28/2006

Hope's Tailor shop helped me fix a few different suits for my husband and myself recently. I was very happy with the final result as was my husband. The owner seems very knowledgeable about tailoring and the suits look like they were made just for my husband and myself. I've never been happier. Pros: Great price, great knowledge, friendly service more

Excellent Tailor Shop 3/8/2006

I just moved to town and was nervous about finding a tailor for my suits. A friend recommended Hope's Tailor Shop and I'm glad I went there. In my opinion Hope is an expert tailor. She was able to make my suits look custom made for me. I have returned three times to have her fix my suits and have always been very happy with the service, the outcome and the overall look of my suits. Pros: quick service, expert tailor, great fit more

Ruined 12/18/2005

They did a terrible job in shortening the sleeves of three jackets that I brought to them. The end of the sleeves were not sewed straight and I didn't realize of the sloppy job until I got home. I decided to pay again another tailor to fix their bad work. I chose this place because of the high score and good reviews, I live up north and I even drove down south because I thought that it was the best place to get the work done. I strongly encourage you to think twice if you are thinking about bringing any clothes to this place. more

Great Alterations- Wedding gown fit perfectly! 10/3/2005

I lost more weight than I had anticipated for my wedding, and a friend recommended that I visit Hope's Tailor Shop. Hope, the owner, was very helpful, reassuring, and professional while she measured me. She was able to take a very loose-fitting dress and make it feel as though it was made especially for me - and not off the rack. I visited her just two weeks before my wedding and she saved me from having to find a different dress at the last minute. I can't say how much I loved her work. I have since been back to take my husband's suits and more of my own clothes now that I'm a smaller size. Hope's shop lobby is decorated with tons of pictures from satisfied customers. She's a great help! Pros: Central Location, Quick Service, Knowledgeable Staff Cons: Only One Hope! more

Speedy service & Excellent Customer Service 8/15/2005

I've had quite a few different pants and shirts tailored with Hope's Tailors and am always impressed! The usual turn around is just a couple of days but there's been times when I need something finished by the end of the day, and Hope accomodates me. The shop owner is very knowledgeable and skilled at sewing. Each pant hem costs about $16 and the best part is that she's fast! Pros: Speedy Service, Inexpensive, Friendly Staff Cons: No delivery service more
