If I were to be asked which pet clinic I should recommend, this probably belongs to the list. Good staff, clean place and lots of dog lovers.

I would not hesitate to bring him back here 8/5/2015

I really like how the doctor treated my dog. He is now healthy and well. If things went wrong, I would not hesitate to bring him back here. more

The doctor in this veterinary clinic is knowledgeable about what he is doing, I can tell. I am not the type of person who recommends, but this one is an exception. more

Great clinic 1/10/2008

I have been going here for years, and my dog and cats see Dr. Barzyk. She is very patient with me, and is always willing to answer my many questions. The other reviewers complain about cost, but I feel Dr. Barzyk and her staff are well worth it. Besides, I have lived in Chicago/Lakeview/Lincoln Park my whole life and have yet to find a cheap vet that's worth seeing anyways. more

EXPENSIVE 12/31/2007

I was roped into this animal clinic with their offer of a free exam for first time customers. The doctor was very friendly and itemized everything and told me what was necessary and what wasn't. Since then, I had to take my two kitties in (seperately) and found out they both had a fungus infection. Both had cultures done after the free blacklight test was "iffy." After talking with some people I found out that Higgins LOVES to charge you for every little thing. The treatment they wanted to do would have cost me $17/week for 6 weeks and then they wanted me to do even more tests after to make sure it was gone (at $70 bucks for each cat, another $280). Another clinic, which I am probably switching to, would just do a simple test (that's free) and will usually give you the same information. They are really nice there which makes me really sad that they would take advantage of their customers. I have heard other stories about them testing for all kinds of things instead of just reco more

OVER PRICED! 10/30/2007

I have been a loyal customer and brought my two dogs to Higgins for the past 5 yrs (even though I have moved out of the neighborhood). Since moving away, I have researched much more to check prices and services. Just a FYI...if they tell you that you need heart worm pills, vitamins, supplements, ear cleaner...yada yada yada...NEVER BUY FROM THEM!!!! I checked prices on VERY reliable internet services and other VETS...Higgins is DOUBLE or MORE THAN DOUBLE the price. Once I realized this and made a complaint...their response was, "Well, you know we have overhead and you can't always trust those internet companies...i will have the owner call you to discuss." After no response from the owner, I came back to return my unopened WAY OVERPRICED purchase and they tried to tell me the owner did call (but he DIDN'T). I asked again to have owner call me as I was furious that after years of loyalty and spending thousands of dollars there...they would take advantage of their customers like that and more

Best vet in Chicago! 10/24/2007

This is a great veterinary clinic. I started going here years ago with my pets. I try to see Dr Barzyk if at all possible, because she is by far the best vet there, and from my experience, in Chicago! She's prompt, honest, extremely knowledgable, and really wants to try and do what's best for my animals. I have gone to other vets in Chicago, and not a one compares to her. She's also the most compassionate veterinarian I have come across too. I recommend her to anyone. She recently got back from maternity leave (thank GOD!), so you have to book your appointments with her early, since she's only there on Fridays and Saturdays. I am sure Higgins is not the cheapest vet around, but Dr. Barzyk will do only what she deems necessary for the health of your pet. more

Nice doctors 6/11/2007

I was recommended to go here when I first got my dog. The vets here are very nice and accommodating. They are very insightful to any questions you have and they give you a hefty puppy packet when you get a puppy. The prices on heartworm and flea and tick prevention is high but I suggest getting all that at doctorfosterandsmith.com. Also, the cost of getting your animal fixed is insane, but go to the Anti-Cruelty Society and its $25 for a dog. I had a problem with my dog and wanted to ask the vet about it, so I called and the receptionist put me through to her voice mail and within 15mins she called me right back with an answer. They really make it easy on those who work during the week and are open on Saturdays so you can still make an appointment and not have to take a day off work to do so. They also offer boarding. more

The current owner, Dr. Roberts, is the son-in-law of the original owner, Dr. Higgins. Dr. Roberts has been with the practice since 1971. Services available include complete veterinary diagnostics and treatment, surgery and dentistry of companion animals including dogs, cats, and exotics. However, we do not treat birds or fish.
