Built home with Hiline in 2007. Many problems during the build. The biggest ones are still problems. Flaky OSB used in walls and roof deck. Had reps from canfor, lumberman's, and Hiline in my garage peeling off pieces to "inspect" it. APA guys work for the industry not the consumer. "Structurally sound" but would have/should have been culled at the mill. They offered to cover it up with soffit covers and drywall. 10 years later, defective shingles from CertainTeed failed. Much of the roof decking was unusable. Had 2 contractors describe many similar experiences with Hiline homes built in the same time frame. Hiline was so busy at that time they were using every Tom Dick and Harry available and cut rate, sub par materials. Carpet was defective also. The contractor who replaced the roof said he has had to do several complete resheets of 10 year old Hiline roofs. There's more, from brand new bathroom flooring with drywall stilt scrape that Hiline wouldn't fix, to vinyl siding installed incorrectly... little things like hammer marks on cupboard faces (Hiline denied doing as we had access to the house...). A few weeks ago an operations manager at Lexar (previously Hiline) told me Hiline homes were built to code and that was all. They were simply an alternative to a mobile. Well, they advertise a "custom home," and I guess that's because the customer can "customize" them? The Lexar guy pretty much said Hiline was a low quality and I shouldn't have expected more.
