Built home with Hiline in 2007. Many problems during the build. The biggest ones are still problems. Flaky OSB used in walls and roof deck. Had reps from canfor, lumberman's, and ...

Editorial review from Citysearch 6/29/2013

In everyone of these complaints (3 in five years), there is appears to be a lot left out. We contracted with HiLine to build us a home in 2007. We lived on the property, so were able to watch the construction progress from start to finish. Our only complaint was the delay between completing the excavation and starting the foundation forms. Everything went well, we moved in in spring of 2008, and couldn't be happier. They advised us that if the one of the contractors left debris (other than the construction debris), we were to contact them. But, we never had the problem. We specified that no smoking would be permitted inside or around the construction site, and in fact, nowhere on the acreage. One framer chose to smoke and leave butts on the ground. We advised HiLIne, and that person was replaced the next day. I suspect that the home owner for one of them did not leave the heaters on high for the three days allowed for drying the wallboard mud. The intent was to maintain the internal temperature for three days at 120 degrees. We never had schedule problems, as long as we completed our part they kept to their schedule. After six years in our home, we have only a couple of minor problems, both were after a couple of years of use. No fixtures fell off the ceiling, no water leaks, nothing such as they are complaining about. I looked at BBB, and they found only two complaints there, both corrected by the company. It is possible the complaints shown above were bogus, created by a competitor. At least one competitor had 147 complaints filed against them when we were researching the companies, while HiLine only had 1. more

Hiline Homes are junk 5/19/2009

I've built numerous homes with Hiline. To date they are moldy, the light fixtures fall off (all of them), sinks leak and cabinets fall apart. This is after just two years of use. There seems to be no bottom line when determining price vs quality with these guys. I would never do it again. All the headaches of fixing the problems wasn't worth the cheap cost in my opinion. I'm sure there are other low cost builders that don't sacrifice quality when putting their homes together. Pros: There are none Cons: they use really, really cheap materials more

Beware Hiline Homes 9/15/2008

In 8/30/2008 Hiline was finishing our model 897. The manager came in with his wife, mother, two children as they were in Packwood, WA for the labor day swap meet. On 9/3/08 we were called as water was coming out of the house. One of the two washing machine valves had been opened a little less than 1/4 of a turn causing water to flood the house. The manager went to the house on 9/3/08 at about 9:00pm, without letting us know, and decided that instead of the valve being touched or pushed while he entered with his family, he reported to the sherriffs office that someone found a key, went inside the locked house, turned the valve less than 1/4 of a turn, locked the house back up, and then put the key back. Hline reported this damage as vandalism, which is obsurd. The manager also walked away from the house that was still full of water and did not call us untl the next day. Hiline tried to shove this down our throats for a week. They did this to put all the cost and duty to repair the house on us, the customer. The Hiline operations manager, Jay Schofield, eventually again dumped this on us by saying this is why Hiline requires customers have insurance. The do this so they can make the customer responsible for negligency by Hiline. He would not put any Hiline position in writing. The owner William Sundby will not return our calls. BEWARE Hiline, they will put any problem of any kind onto the customer. The contract is designed to protect them, not the customer and you will be at there mercey and they do not care about you. The house they build is poor and the can't even place electrical sockets level with each other when they run in a line like the kitche. You have been warned. more

Horrible Customer Service, Poor quality work. 4/9/2007

The first day I met with HiLine I asked if I could have hard wood floors throughout my new home? They said that would be no problem. When it came time to pick out flooring, I found out I had been misinformed and this was not an option. We noticed some hurricane straps were missing when they were framing, we called the company to inform them and they said everything is the way it?s supposed to be? Never replacing the missing straps. We weren?t sure if they were really supposed to be there or not so we looked at another Hiline home with the same floor plan being built in our area and sure enough, they had hurricane straps where ours were missing. Pros: You can pick from several floor plans and add things to customize your home. Cons: Horrible customer service, communication, business practice. more
