Dr. Mentz is board certified in several areas. After checking with the authorities, it appears that he was the first in the United States to achieve all of these board certifications. I called to confirm his credentials and he has the most impressive resume and track record of experience. \r \r By reading his website and some of Dr. Mentz's Journal articles, I soon learned that Dr. Mentz is also the inventor of Abdominal Etching and an inventor of some modified Facelift techniques. Thus, he has the most up to date experience. When I had my facelift and my liposuction, I was certain that I wanted a Board Certified surgeon with ENT and facial surgery experience. Well, much to my suprise, Dr. Mentz is an ENT Plastic Surgeon, which made me feel very safe. \r \r Anyway, after researching online with Lexis Nexis and investigating Dr. Mentz's background, it appears that he holds all of the credentials, board certifications, and licenses that they say to check for It was my patience, diligence, and research that allowed me to make the decision to go with the best and safest surgeon. \r \r The end result is that I achieved my objectives, and have the look that I wanted. Now, I receive compliments almost every day and people don't know exactly what I did. It's my little secret.. Dr. Mentz's staff and patient coordinators really held my hand through the whole thing and provided the comfort and VIP service that I deserved. Dr. Mentz - Amazing Surgeon and Staff.\r \r I did my research and homework, and Dr. Mentz is the most well published and credentialed plastic surgeon in the United States. I demand safety, experience and board certification, and I was willing to pay a little more for the best doctor. After I had my liposuction, I recovered in about 3-4 days. Within a week, I could see the fantastic results of my flat tummy and ab muscles. Also, from my research, I found that he was the most experienced in the world with Abdominal Etching. Thus, I was glad to have my stomach turned super youthful again and my breasts taken from a size A to a Full C Lovin It\r \r Although the wait seemed long and was nearly 8 weeks to have the surgery scheduled, it was worth it. My friends are so jealous and my husband is beaming with pride... Sometimes we have to wait for the best, and I didn't want to settle for less. Sure, I could have got a cheaper surgery, but Dr. Mentz's track surgery record for 20+ years was impeccable and clean as a whistle.\r \r I do know that the other cheaper doctors who were NOT triple board certified tried to offer me discounts and get me into surgery the next day. However, I asked around town before making this important decision and the overwhelming consensus was that Dr. Mentz is the best.\r \r I am so glad that I went with Dr. Mentz. $100 for the consultation and I was impressed. $4500 for ab and flanks lipo. After surgery, I was in terrible pain from dark bruising on my chest and shoulder blades and couldn't understand how those areas were injured when the procedure was performed on abdomen and waistline. Found out from the visiting nurse who told me the bruising was the result of being pushed down on the hard, unforgiving metal operating table during the procedure. I wish I had been given a local anesthetic so that I could have witnessed my treatment.\r \r After a rather, in my opinion, long recovery period (3 - 4 months), my waist was definitely more defined but there were unsightly lumps where Mintz apparently missed using the cannula to remove the fat cells. Because of my age, he recommended I have a full tummy tuck but I chose to have only the lipo and take a chance with having sagging skin on my middle. Well, the elasticity of my skin did not let me down even at the age of 60 plus and the only unattractiveness were the lumps that he failed to remove.\r \r From the time of the procedure (November, 2003) to present (August, 2007) I have experienced a numbness and discomfort in the area on my right side below the waist. I must assume that there is nerve damage and will question my gasteroentologist at my next appointment with him. I am under his care for Hepatitis C for which I was diagnosed in November, 2004; the virus believed to have been passed to me via tainted transfusions during complicated, childbirth which resulted in a stillbirth and my almost bleeding out in 1965.\r \r Summary: In my opinion, Mintz may have been a competent surgeon at some point but has become desensitized to the desires and needs of his patients. He seems to care more about getting his patients in and out as quickly as possible and getting paid for it. In my opinion, his work is careless and sloppy. I agree with the previous review.. ONE STAR IS TO MUCH FOR THIS JOKER ! Unfortunately, I was sucked into his ""posh"" offices, fancy website, etc.. He acts like he cares, but after he has gotten your money & performed surgery he doesn't have time for you & makes you wait for hours for follow ups, etc.. After all, I'm sure his time is much more valuable than mine.. WHATEVER !! I had a problem with my breast augmentation and when I ""attempted"" to bring this to his attention he would NOT take responsiblity for it. After I have already spent $7,000 for the initital surgery, he would be happy to perform a ""revision"" but at my expense ! His staff doesn't return phone calls either. Lupe is a joke !! She's all nice as long as you have money to give, but once that has been taken care of she never returns your calls. I feel very sad & angry that I trusted Dr. Mentz . He couldn't care a less about me as a person/patient enough to do the right thing & fix what he screwed up ! Aparantly, he takes no pride in his work. Giving this schmuck even one star is too much. The only positive review must have been written by his cackling ""patient coordinator"" Lupe, whose main purpose is to steal your money. He is plastered all over the internet, with an awesome website, and advertises in several local mags. You would think he was good. If a doctor is THAT good, he would not have to spend so much on making you think that he is. HE IS A FARSE!! I went to see Dr Mentz for a breast reduction, and he talked me into a breast augmentation. He said I would get a better result with less scarring. I was pretty droopy at a 36D. Looking back, he probably had no idea how to perform a breast lift. I am sure it requires much more expertise, of which he has NONE> He never discussed my future size or showed me pictures of his results. Lupe flashed me her breasts, and he said mine would look better. HA!! My breasts are grotesquely huge now. 34F. They are droopier than ever. I look ridiculous. He even went under the muscle, which is a big no-no for saggy breasts. I found this out AFTER surgery, from my research. I assumed I was going to the best, and he DEFINITELY is not. He spent a total of 5 minutes with me before surgery, never really assessing my needs. He couldn't care less what they were. I went back to him several times to complain, and he wanted no part of fixing the problem. I asked him if he would like my before and afters to be used as representations of his work, and he said no. He offered no compensation. In my opinion, he is an awful surgeon who relies on excessive advertising to rip off his patients into believing he is some sort of hot shot. STAY AWAY GIRLS> HE DOES NOT KNOW WHAT HE IS DOING!!! Overpriced too. I am looking to get another surgery soon to correct his errors. $6K is alot to have lost from this so-called surgeon's lack of ability. If you like lots of loose skin and a money hungry not caring about the patients needs kind of doc then he's your guy.I could kick myself for not doing any research about him first. more

I would not recommend Dr. Mentz. He is over priced & never on time. The most expensive compared to other surgeons for breast aumentation. I had to schedule a whole day for his appts because he was always behind. I went to him because a friend of mine who is in the beauty business told me he was the BEST and she had several ""respectable"" clients who used him. Needless to say I was very unhappy with the outcome of my breast augmentation. I was very unsure about size. No one would offer any help. Just a mirror & samples! My friends told me their doctors offered advise based on body shape, told them to bring shirts, showed them pictures, bring a friend and took measurements. None of this was offered with Dr. Mentz or his staff. I didn't even know about these suggestion til AFTER surgery! When I expressed my unhappiness to Dr. Mentz he said he no longer advises patients on size and told me I should have gone up to a bigger size AFTER MY SURGERY! Then he left the exam room because his wife was calling him. I am now researching other surgeons to have the procedure done again because I'm still basically the same size I was before surgery just $7,000 less in my bank account! I went to Dr. Mentz because I have seen some beautiful work of his. I got lipo and he took WAY to much fat out so I looked like a sharpei until I got a hip/thigh lift with a tummy tuck. My stomach now looks like modeling clay. I realize that I was heavier at one time and my skin was bad but He, as a surgeon should have been more careful or He should have turned me away. He didn't have to go crazy with it. I think he picked lots of areas because it ups the price. After my surgery, I was left in my room for 2 hours after my appointment time for the follow up visit. I am so upset now 3 years later because I feel disfigured and now am in alot of debt because I had to fix what he has done. His work and quality are remarkable. I believe he is the best in Houston! He even has a nurse come to your home the day after surgery to check up on you. I haven't heard of any other plastic surgeon who offers that service. The waiting room has two computers with internet access, snacks, refrigerated drinks and a huge plasma TV to keep you entertained while you wait. Dr. Mentz is so nice and funny and he goes the extra mile to make sure you are well taken care of by everybody on his staff. Go to him. He's the bomb. Cons: long waitingroom time more
