Have had No Problems 5/4/2009

I understand that people have issues with Helga's. Personally, I do not have a problem. I bought a puppy from her almost 3 years ago. He is still alive and doing VERY well. I didn't have any problems with him getting sick or anything like that. I also got a kitten from there a little over a year ago. She is also doing great. As far as "her" vet goes, I found him through the free vet check. I have taken vet courses so I'm not ignorant when it comes to animal care and know what to look for in a vet. He has saved two of my animals, one being the puppy that I bought from Helga's (COMPLETELY unrelated incident) and another one of my dogs who caught Parvo from my neighbors dog. Maybe people should pay a little more attention to the animals they are buying. Do a thorough exam of your potential pet before buying. more

DO NOT BUY FROM HELGA 4/14/2009

Everyone who has posted negative reviews on this establishment PLEASE contact the Humane Society of Clarksville at 931-648-8042 or email humanesociety@clarksville.co and voice your concerns and experiences. They will at the very least be able to direct you to where you can file complaints that will make a difference. Perhaps if we work together we can get this awful place put out of business and save future animals from suffering!! Cons: cruelty to animals among other things more

UNHAPPY! 3/29/2009

I want to start by saying that I signed up for a membership just to post this and make people aware of the possible hazards of Helga's. I also want to say this is a public forum and all members have a right to their own opinion. This just happens to be mine. My wife and I have been wanting a dog for our family for quite some time. Back in 2000-2002 when I was first stationed here we used to go to Helga's and never had any concerns. Service was excellent. So, a couple weeks ago my wife and I stopped in to see the selection of dogs. We were asked if we were looking for a house dog. We said, ""yes"". We were then told a sob story about a Shih Tzu they had that had been returned due to the owner losing his job and home. We were told the animal was potty trained and would bark when it needed to be taken out. This combination sold my wife. Helga stated she would get the shot records from the previous owner after the weekend and we could pick them up. My concern was that we were about to go on leave and I wanted to wait till after leave. Helga also stated that if we would purchase him she would board him at a discounted rate of $8.00 a day. My wife made the purchase and we took the dog home. I understand that displacing an animal is just as hard on animals as humans. So a potty accident is understandable. However, we would take the dog out hourly for a good amount of time and the dog would come inside and potty. We recieved a phone message (which I still have saved) stating she had the shot records for us. My wife made multiple efforts to retrieve these records. The end result was Helga yelling at my wife that he was current on all shots but rabies. That is her idea of shot records. Next issue; leave came and went and dog was boarded there. This was prior to the shot record thing for those thinking I'm an idiot. When we returned we were charged $10.00 a day for boarding. When asked about the special $8.00 a day she said ""that is for cats"". So needless to say we are unhappy with our service. Thank God the animal is healthy as of check up. The lady is a liar. If you are her friend, I'm sorry. I understand not all will have the same experience, and some will be pleased with their service. As for all the other reviews about sick animals....I have to believe it. I wish I would have used common sense and visited a shelter. Cons: You Name It more

awful 12/12/2008

we had to board my pet pom there for a few days. trust me it was not by choice.... every other place was closed. when we called the store the lady was nasty and not very helpful. and then when we got to the store, guess what? she was still nasty. the place is filthy and smells awful... when i got my puppy back she was all dirty and scared. i dont think she has ever been happier to see me. Pros: cute dog outfits Cons: everything more

Do Yourself and a Pet a Favor 11/19/2008

You are asking for behavior problems and most likely to incur additional health costs anytime you purchase a pet from a Pet Shop. I recommend going online after you have done some(a lot) of research and finding the perfect Breed/Mutt at a shelter. Every Breed imaginable is within a 3 hour drive and 99 % of them will live a long and healthy life. The shelter workers will be able to give invaluable information as to the temperment of each animal, thus assuring you of a likely fit. And if a potential pet isn't worth a 3 hr drive...................you probably don't need it. But if you don't believe me then pay more on the front end, even more to maintain, and still possibly end up grieving over the premature loss or illness of many Pet Shop animals. Cons: Obviously Many more

This place needs help!! 6/19/2008

This place needs more help then the help wanted sing hanging in the store. No it is not the cleanest, nor does it smell the best. But then again it is a pet store, an it smells like i guess a pet shop would. I have been in the store and seen it look and smell A LOT better. And the customer service, well is lacking too, when you have people in here who are rude an down right hateful! Sadly she has let go what good help she ever had. I visit this store offen, WELL LETS SAY, I USE TO, now my visits are not as offen nor do i tell anyone they should go there. I remember a time, i would stop at least once a week an tell everyone i knew ""Go to Helga's if she don't have it, the girl there will make the calls for you to get it"" AGAIN SADLY that person is no longer there. We wish those girls were back, always greeted us with a smile, asking if we needed help. And would open the door 20 mins early knowing i had just gotten off 3rd shift, so i wouldn't have to come back. Now all we get are ""we're not open yet, don't go from cage to cage bothering the puppies"" If you didn't want people to touch your puppies don't have them out front in the open cages, KEEP them in the back!! But lets face it people, even with all this, them being rude, an all our negitives on here. Helga's will continue to sell puppies.......just cause she has them, an more of them then anyone... more

Horrible 5/12/2008

My husband and I drove past Helgas Feb 2005. We went to look around. Outside in the cold Febuary rain was 18 puppies. Labeled as pugs. I fell in love with one of the dogs and took her home. Upon review from the vet, the vet said this was not a pug, and helgas WOULD NOT Take take the dog back. Since than our ""pug"" has grown into a lap/border collie mix with bad hips, and must be on special food for the rest of her life because of dieseses she was exposed too. Most pet shops get their dogs from puppy mills, i know this now. While I am still completety in love with my dog, and would never trade her for the world, HELGAS NEEDS TO BE SHUT DOWN. They are dirty, and the conditions the dogs have to live in I wouldnt put on my worst enemy more

lovesanimals 5/6/2008

I've always gone into Helga's just to look around. One day I saw the prettiest yorki terrier ever. I knew I had to get him. The person working in the store told me it was a full yorkie terrier. I paid a little over $550 for him. He was born 11-27-07 and I bought him January 2008. His first vet visit did not go well. They found a parasite in him that was making him sick. I was given medicine for him that I had to pay for. The vet said he would be fine in a few weeks. Well its May now and he is doing just fine. I decided he needed someone to play with so yesterday I went back to Helga's to find him a friend. There was this cute Achita Mix puppy she was selling and born 3-2-08. he was the same size as my yorki. When I got the puppy home he pooped on the carpet and his poo was very runny. I would take him outside and watch him poo and it would be very runny. He doesn't want to walk and all he does is lay on his side. I very concerened. I could not take him too the vet yet because they were already closed. I think I made a mistake of getting this puppy from her. I would not recommend anyone go there and get any animal. more

Its Rainin Pets 4/19/2008

Helga's Pampered Pet take care of our pets. when i was going out of town to virginia, they took care of my dog. They were kissing my dog and showing that they cared. They are very reliable and they do CARE. more

helga's doen't give proper care to pets 4/11/2008

It deserves no stars. It's not about the smell it's about improper care. For those who gave 5 stars, of course some of the puppies will make it out unscathed. If they were all unhealthy they couldn't make money. Plus, may pups will have health issues later & behavior issues that you don't realize are because they were neglected. My issue is they aren't providing the proper food to their animals. They're feeding dog food to their hamsters because they're too cheap to provide the proper food. It's not nutritionally complete. They are missing nutrients that are important to their health. If they're abusing one animal, they're probably abusing them all. Do not shop here at all. If you do, you're supporting animal abuse & saying it's ok. Unfortunately the Humane Society doesn't have the authority to do anything, but do contact Animal Control. Talk to David Selby the director only, 648-5750. Statistics say, that for every actual complaint there are 26 more that go unheard. Cons: NEGLECT ANIMALS more

Help close down Helga's 4/11/2008

Helga's should have been closed many years ago and would have if this state had better animal welfare laws. Anyone getting a healthly pup or cat has simply been lucky. By accepted animal facility standards, Helga's is filthy and fosters communicative diseases, especially upper respiratory with cats. She gets animals from backyard breeders and irresponsble owners who don't care for their pets and don't spay and neuter them. You who think animal facilities ""shouldn't have to smell like bed or roses"" are extremely naive. Animal shelters and other facilities should smell clean and be clean. I have 30 plus years in animal welfare, animal sheltering and animal rescue, rehab and medical care. Be a well-informed and consciencious pet owner or would be pet owner: DO NOT BUY FROM HER OR ANY OTHER PET STORE. There are at least 3 rescues, a humane society and county animal shelter in this community with animals who need homes. The rescues and HS give WRITTEN GUARANTEES AND 100% SATISFACTION OR RETURN POLICIES AND COPIES OF VETERINARY CARE GIVEN, not phony health checks and false promises or rudeness and yelling if you try to express a concern about a pet purchased there. more

Wouldn't Recommend 4/2/2008

I bought a miniature dachshund from Helga's a couple of years ago. I only went there because they were the only place in town with mini dachshunds at the time. When I got him he was very sick and wouldn't even move. I took him to her ""vet"" and he said he had worms but other than that he was perfectly healthy. I kept the dog for about a year and a half before I had to get rid of him. He could not be potty trained and seemed not all there like he was inbred or something. I gave him away to someone that has had dogs all her life and knew could take care of him better than me. She took him to her vet and he had a major colon disorder from birth and that is why he couldn't be potty trained. He was put on antibiotics and it now fine. Why didn't her ""vet"" find this problem? Pros: Nothing really Cons: Most Everything more

Rudest people 3/25/2008

I took my dog to get groomed and first of all they were rude when I dropped her off, then they called 3 hours later and said they could not groom her because she was too wild. I dont know where they got that, she is the sweetest dog and other groomers comment as to how well behaved she is and they just love her. I guess it's true that dogs sense evil because something is wrong at that place. I also dont know why it took 3 hours before they called me. Pros: At least they only have one location Cons: Rude staff more

Healthy Puppies; Happy Families 2/6/2008

I got a purebred Maltise at Helga's. He is the friskiest, most healthy happy puppy I have ever seen. I highly reccomend Helga's Pampered Pets, and I can safely tell you that I don't work there. (I'm WAY too young for a job!!!) When my family and I got to Helga's we were satisfied with the looks, and the inside of the store smelled like Febreeze!!! There we NO dogs outside in cages. The dogs there were all inside in small bassinettes. There were PLENTY of happy healthy puppies there. My little Maltise had had almost all of his shots allready, except for one. He is amost a year old, and he's still kickin'. He's very helathy. Maybe I'm just one of the lucky ones. Maybe Kentucky has a better store than most places. Kenobi is still as adorable as ever, and he's next to me now begging for treats. Again, I highly reccomend KENTUCKY'S Helga's Pampered Pets. Pros: Smells nice, lots of cute puppies, fed the best Iams you can get. Cons: What's not to like?!?! more

Do NOT buy pets from this store! 12/31/2007

My sister got a puppy from this store a week before Christmas. It was here Christmas present. The poor puppy died on Christmas day. Pros: maybe rescuing a poor animal from this store Cons: a broken heart with sick and or dead animal and high vet bills more

DON'T BUY PETS FROM THIS PLACE They will DIE or Get Horribly sick 12/24/2007

We bought a puppy a week ago. We took the puppy to Helga's 'vet'. He said it was healthy, 2 days later we were back, he said it just had a sore throat. The next day took to another vet. Diagnosed with Coccidia (which takes about 13 days to incubate... so puppy had it before we bought it) now the puppy is in the vet hospital, struggling to live and has a 50/50 chance of living.\r After searching the internet, I see a significant amount of negative reviews and the only positive ones come from people who work or own the shop. \r Why is this business still in business? Can't the SPCA or health department shut them down? This is a disgrace!\r I can only hope and pray my puppy will survive. The vet bills so far are in excess of $500.00 The puppy cost $400.00, but you can't put a price on life!!\r This pet shop is just horrible!\r I would not recommend to anyone! These poor animals are suffering needlessly more

SERIOUSLY RUDEST PEOPLE EVER 11/30/2007

i went in there to buy a puppy.. put down a deposit so i could pick it up, and when i asked for a one day extension, they told me sorry, and you cant have your money back. WTF?! isnt that what a deposit is??! the lady was SO rude to me, i cant even believe it. i have never been so disrespected in my entire life. i wish i could rescue all the animals from this place. this is animal cruelty and this place needs to be shut down! i feel sorry for whoever will really get that puppy, because i had a beautiful nice loving home and family for it. Pros: NOTHING Cons: RUDE effing owner and employees more

DIRTY/NASTY/ WASTE OF MONEY!! DON'T BUY FROM HELGA'S!! 11/28/2007

I have seen many pet stores in my lifetime none have compared to Helga's Pampered Pets. The pets at this location are far from ""PAMPERED""! The kennels are dirty as well as the animals. When I took my daughter in there for the first time she had to hold her nose the entire time due to the horrific smell. The staff wasn't friendly at all, more like an underline of hatefullness is what I felt from them. Pros: I can't think of one positive thing about this place. Cons: The animals aren't cared for properly and that results in a sick dirty animal that you are taking home to save. more
