Delicious Oysters Rockefeller! I could eat just that & the amazing bread pudding for the whole meal. Nice decor, great food. Good date spot.

My very first review, Pros: Great food and service Cons: No longer expected to dress for the occasion.

Pricey but worth it 6/22/2005

The menu had me concerned--mostly fish and no jambalaya. And the prices seemed a bit steep. Service was just OK, as was the ambiance. But the food was fantastic! Seriously, I was poised to give this place a mediocre review. I cannot. The food is simply too good. Pros: food Cons: uppity crowd more

Don't Order Oysters Rockefeller 6/11/2005

The Oysters Rockefeller was disappointing. Rockefeller Oysters are supposed to be covered in a sauce of spinach puree, seasonings, Pernod, and broiled to bubble in their shells. Gumbo's presentation was just small oysters in the shell with seasoned bread crumbs and a spinach leaf...Poor! The Gumbo is very good however, and the waitstaff is eager to please. I suggest that Gumbo's invest in a good New Orleans cookbook! Pros: valet parking, good service, very good gumbo Cons: not authentic cajun, poor oyster recipes, mediocre shrimp more

The Oysters Rockefeller was disappointing. Rockefeller Oysters are supposed to be covered in a sauce of spinach puree, seasonings, Pernod, and broiled to bubble in their shells. Wonderful 5/26/2005

I'm never disappointed when I go to Gumbo's. It has a great atmosphere, polite & knowledgeable waitstaff, and out of this world food. When I went a few weeks ago, I had tilapia in a garlic butter sauce w/ a side of brocolli, and I was blown away. I savored every bite, and did the same with the key lime pie I had for dessert. They serve it with strawberries & whipped cream on top - yummy! I tried my friend's caramel pecan cheesecake that was equally good. Pros: can be low carb! more

The food at Gumbo's is FABULOUS...but Boy oh Boy do they need a lesson as far as service goes. Recently had lunch and dinner here and both times was amazed at the food. The dinner special was a blackened tenderloin with a roasted blue cheese sauce and also a few fried oysters. AMAZING. I don't know what they did to the oysters, but they were the best I have ever had. All of the seafood dishes that my guests had were also very tasty. Wine list is good. Waiters are extremely knowledgable and helpful. Had the bread pudding for dessert and it was fabulous as well. A great place for dates, business dinnners, or a special evening out with the wife. more

Great food/ snobby owners 5/29/2003

They serve good food and they are very proud of it and themselves as they should be but they are also somewhat rude and condescending. We took our children- sorry- we didn't know they didn't want them- and though our kids were quiet we got the evil eye all night. When we left we got a ""Thank you for keeping your children quiet"" comment. Pros: food Cons: snobby more

Gumbo's is the place to be if you are looking for a nice seafood meal in Austin. When we arrived, we were seated promptly. I recommend requesting to sit upstairs. Ask to see the wine list. You will be impressed. The menu at Gumbo's is very extensive because they have just about anything you want. Their speciality is Cajun so be aware that your food could be spicy. I recommend the gumbos, the mahi mahi, and any blackened fish. This is definitely what Austin needed. Once done, you are just around the corner from Brown Bar. more

Who needs LA we got Gumbo's! 8/27/2002

Gumbos was an awsome place to go eat it was my first time there and I had my cousin with me and we all had a blast it was soooo great! I had hands down the best steak ever and my cousin had a shimp entree that was also really good! Head out to Gumbo's you'll thank me later! more
