Delicious Oysters Rockefeller! I could eat just that & the amazing bread pudding for the whole meal. Nice decor, great food. Good date spot.

My very first review, Pros: Great food and service Cons: No longer expected to dress for the occasion.

the best ever 8/26/2002

i went to gumbos about a week ago and can still taste the wonderfully juicy steak. it was so thick and juicy i had to take some of it home, which i didnt mind at all. the waiter that brought it out to me was so nice and helpful, im glad he recomended the steak to me. i would love to eat there as soon as possible again. Pros: the food was awesome, the service was great, good parkin more

Awesome experience 8/26/2002

I have to rate my dining experience at Gumbo's as the best I have ever had. The service was exceptional, the decor very special, the food was to die for (especially the desserts!), and the overall experience awesome. I had the blackened filet of beef and it was the best steak I have ever had. It was thick and juicy and rare just like I like it. It is hard to find a restaurant that cooks a steak the way I like it. I can't say enough about it. I can't wait to eat there again!!!!!!! more

I recently dined at Gumbo's in the Brown Building and was in AWE of their food. The Steack was tender, their Sensation Salad was indeed Sensational and their Chocolate Custard was absolutly to die for! For anyone looking for a Great dinner ( a steak so tender you can cut it with a butter knife) Gumbo's is the place to go!! more

Great Po-Boys 8/10/2002

The shrimp and oysters were fresh and in good quantity. The french bread has got to be homemade. It was really perfect. The po-boy comes with creaole mustard, which I assume is Zatarain's. I use it at home, so I had my po-boy with it. If you are not used to it, you may want ask for it on the side. The bread pudding is good, but it is not quite like the bread pudding I had at Mother's in New Orleans. The caramel cheesecake and strawberry cheesecake are very yummy, too. The service was excellent. Pros: service, po-boys, ambience Cons: downtown more

One of Austin's Best 7/17/2002

Unlike many of the other restaurants in Austin, Gumbo's does not have 'character.' At least not in the ""Austin"" sense. In most cities character means a unique flair, a little panache. In Austin, 'character' means loud, crowded restaurant in a run down house. Gumbo's is classy. Lively but not overly loud, friendly but professional. The food is some of the best you'll have. By far our favorite. Don't forget to stop by Brown Bar while waiting for a table. Pros: food, atmosphere, food more
