bad coupon experience 11/3/2010

I tried to schedule an appt. to use my BuyWithMe coupon for a facial but was unable to get an appt. 3 days in advance. Thus, my coupon is expiring and Grettacole's terse response is "you should have known you had 6 months to book the appt." The coupon says to book at least 24 hours in advance. If you are going to be as busy as a doctor's office, then you need to make that clear on the coupon. To me, it seems that this company focuses on overselling coupons and and then not honoring the coupons by claiming the wording says "subject to availability." Very poor customer service. Be warned if you buy these things to book weeks or even months before expiration date! more

Shaighla is my all time favorite stylist!! 2/26/2009

I highly recommend Grettacole after having been to dozens of snobby Newbury St. salons, I refuse to go to another salon, Grettacole is the best hands down! I've done the whole James Joseph, blah blah blah...Grettacole is BETTER! I've gone to Shaighla regularly for my coloring over the past two+ yrs and I've always walked away feeling like a runway model. She is open to suggestions and always has new fun ideas that I end up LOVING!! I have now moved out of state but still visit Boston quarterly and I STILL make an appointment with Shaighla because I just don't trust anyone else. She is also very professional and very witty so she actually engages you through your appointment rather than ignoring you and rushing through. Pros: BEST COLORIST IS SHAIGHLA Cons: worth the $$$ more

Rude elitists. 10/29/2008

I've been a client of Ellen Mackin's for nearly two years. She's been very, very good to me (after having fixed some serious problems I had with a previous stylist at another not-to-be-named salon). I called very recently to book an appointment with her and I was told that not only did she not work here anymore, but they would not disclose any information about her current whereabouts. She's an amazing stylist and I wanted to stay with her, not at all interested in booking with Grettacole, and they withheld this information. I found this tactic very petty and unprofessional and their attitude with me on the phone pretty rude. I know they have this information and it's shameful that they would not support one of their stylists. I've since found this information and I am happy to say I will be seeing her later this week--at another salon. (If you've also had this problem: Ellen is now at James Joseph Studio on Newbury St.) Thanks, Grettacole! Pros: Ellen Mackin Cons: Everything else. more

Avoid at all costs 8/12/2008

I have been going to see Mary at Grettacole for over a year. She is fantastic! Nice, professional - I almost feel we could be friends in "real" life... Mary used to be the only reason I went to this place but I don't think she'll be reason enough for me to go back. Twice I have used their hair "salon" and twice I felt robbed. Both times I was way overcharged for what I got. The service is rude and snobby (for no apparent reason)... Shayla is the absolute worst colorist in the universe. She does not listen to what you want (if she asks) and she doesn't care about what she does...Both times my hair color was washed away after my first shower... When I called to complain the first time, Stephanie (the "manager") was almost blaming it on me - "maybe you wash your hair too much". They finally agreed to redo my color - which didn't last longer than the first try. Going back for the redo was the worst experience: Shayla was obviously unhappy and unapologetic. Six months had passed. Water under the bridge... I thought I could give it another try... Huge mistake! This time around, I have streaks of bleached hair that look cheap and unhealthy. I don't wan't to go back for a redo or call to complain because they don't respect their costumers with their condescending attitude... Pros: Mary for waxing Cons: Everything else Pros: Mary for waxing Cons: Everything else more

There are way better places in Boston 5/15/2008

I used to be a very loyal customer of Grettacole. I had been going there since I moved from New York several years ago. I have gradually seen the quality of their services go down as well. As of the last time I visited Grettacole I was treated poorly as well as received the worst hair cut of my life. The staff is unbelievably rude and Grettacole is ridiculously over priced for their low quality services. On my last visit my stylist payed no attention to me and didn't even give me a chance to explain what I wanted done before she started cutting. When I tried to comment she was very short with me and did not listen to any of my needs. During this hair cut she tried to sell me everything possible from hair extentioins to beauty vitimins; it was very annoying. At the end of this styling session when it was time for me to look in the mirror I was devistated because my hair look disgusting! The mistakes she had made on my hair were unfixable and now six months later I am still stuck with the consequences of her poor styling ability. There are many salons that are superior to Grettacole in Boston I suggest you find one. Do you hair a favor and avoid Grettacole at all costs! Pros: it's in the pru Cons: everything more

Fantastic Facials and Service 10/9/2007

I have been a client at grettas for three years and also worked there as a receptionist. I started off with terrible skin and thanks to Katerina it is now clear. What people need to understand is that if you need alot of cleaning katerina is going to do just that. If your looking for a massage thren get a massage not a facial. There are many different types of facials. Its always good to let her know what your looking for. I have gone everywhere in this city and she is skilled and well worth every penny!! Pros: great estheticians Cons: parking more

Best Facial in all of Boston 8/8/2007

My friend recommended me to get a facial and an eyebrow wax from Caitlin Rand. My friend sure was right. It was an unbelieveable facial and I would recommend anyone to go there. It was the best customer service and she made me feel at home and very comfortable. She didn't push me to buy any products but did educate me on what I should use. My eyebrow wax was great too, I told her the shape that I wanted and they came out perfect. I can't say enough about my visit at Grettacole thanks to Caitlin Rand. more

Client Beware...overpriced and less and less service 8/5/2007

I have been to see Katarina and she is very nice. She is also overly aggressive with cleansing and over time, the message is less and the time alone in the room waiting for a mask is more and more. She tries to fit in everybody at the expense of some clients. Client beware. She is good but you must explain everything. I think Violet at Violet Skin Boutique on Newbury is far better...and much less expensive. Pros: very nice person Cons: overpriced and declining service once they know they have you more

Best Brows and Facial!! 4/21/2007

Katarina is Fantastic! I started seeing her a year ago and I wont go to anyone else. My skin looks great and my brows are always perfect. I also get pedis and manis with Kat, the best I ever had (she is a genius at french manicures). It may be difficult to get an appointment ,but worth the try. Pros: Staff and service Cons: reception desk more

Excellent experience 3/31/2007

Katerina at Grettacole is *the* person to go to for eyebrow shaping. She does a fantastic job every time, but what makes her really stand out is how friendly and personable she is with every single one of her clients - she really listens to what you want to have done, and makes everyone feel special. Katerina is absolutely the best! more

Horrible Hair Experience! 3/16/2007

Every single word in the reviews below is true--I should have read them before going to that place. I ended up with a catastrophic case of "mall hair"--I didn't even know they do such yellow and rough highlights anywhere any more these days... The hair dresser barely looked at my hair when I was trying to explain that I wanted natural tones, and now my beautiful brunette hair looks ugly yellow and orange--completely unnatural. I almost had to force her to listen to even a word I said before she was going to cut my hair, and the haircut itself took about 4-5 minutes. I was offered no magazines to look at while waiting for the color to set, nor did she offer me anything to drink. The reception staff was rude and unwelcoming. AN ABSOLUTELY DISAPPOINTING EXPERIENCE! more

Won't go back.. 2/17/2007

Went recently for a pedicure/manicure. Small choice of colors, small choice of magazines, they didn't let you soak your feet at all -- started right in on the pedicure. The room is open to where people are getting their hair cut and on that day someone was having a permanent which was all you could smell. Also when I used the restroom their was no toilet paper and the rubbish was overflowing onto the floor. Would never go here again -- wasn't spa-like or relaxing at all. more

Katerina is the best! 1/2/2007

Katerina did a great job on my eyebrows! It lasts forever and she is so pleasant. I haven't been in for any other services but I won't go anywhere else for a wax. Thanks Katerina!!! Pros: Great Wax Cons: Parking is miserable, very expensive more

First Impressions are lasting-Nasty Receptionist 12/20/2006

I have attempted to see Katrina twice and each time the receptionist was more than rude and unaccomodating. I don't think I will try this place. Once I went in and a worker had the worst skin ever! I was frightened especially since she did not seem aware of that fact. more

Best of Boston? Really? 11/14/2006

This place is a joke. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. The service is horrible, I got an average haircut, and I paid double what I usually do. Don't believe the hype, it was an absolute waste of money. more

Good, not great, facial 11/13/2006

I got a decent facial from Grettacole, I'd recommend it in a bind, but it wasnt the best I've had. Still, it was one of the best I've had in Boston. more

Great Eyebrows 10/12/2006

Katarina did a great job on my eyebrows and it lasted about 3 weeks! It was not too painful and she gave me a great shape - no burns or sticky wax pieces Pros: excellent job, lasted a long time Cons: parking is hard, price was very high more

Overpriced, rude and unskilled! 9/22/2006

I moved to Boston and needed a place I could trust for all of my wedding preparation and wedding day hair and make-up. I had never had a facial or leg-waxing before in my life and was really looking forward to being pampered. I was treated like I wasn't good enough to be there and was given that fake attention whenever I questioned any service or price. I was told one price and was charged much, much more. Since when do highlights and a haircut cost over $300?? I was told the base price over the phone, but then they booked me with the so-called master stylist. I was burned by the overly hot wax which left temporary scarring on my legs. I was told that if I would have lied still, it wouldn't have happend. How could I have lied completely still when my legs are being burned? On my wedding day, my group was 10 minutes late for our appointment because of unforseen circumstances (I'm sure this isn't a rare thing for a bride!) and I was lectured about being late. I mistakingly assumed that the stress of my event was the cause of my dissatisfaction and returned a couple months later for a haircut. I was again lectured about how difficult my wedding day was for this master stylist. It was obvious that she was looking for a bonus tip. I don't recommend this salon to anyone! The only thing that I was happy with was my facial. I had my haircut the next time somewhere else and without mentioning it, the hairdresser said she was shocked at my haircut. She actually said that it looked as if the last hairdresser had no training whatsoever. more

Waxing at Grettacole 9/5/2006

I just moved to boston and needed to get waxed before school started. I decided to go to Gretaccole because it was on the way to where I was going. They did a good job with my legs but they missed a couple of spots that I had to redo when I got home. I was very pleased with my eyebrows though. more

Grettacole 9/2/2006

Horrible! Do NOT go there. They told me one price over the phone for a haircut and then the price went up $20 afterwards. They charged me an additional $45 dollars for a "deep condition" treatment that I did NOT ask for, nor was asked if I wanted this service. The stylist was terrible and used thinning shears and ruined my hair. It was all uneven and looked awful. It was one of the worse haircuts I ever received. I went back to complain about being charged the $45 and they were so rude about it. They have no class and this place is a waste of money. Nobody knows what they are doing and they all have attitudes. You can get a better cut at supercuts. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY. Pros: None Cons: Everything. Ridiculous prices for nothing in return. more
