The kind that gives Chinese buffets a bad name 12/31/2009

I am sorry to say that this is one of the two worst Chinese buffets I have ever visited anywhere. Even allowing for differences in taste, how can anyone give this place a five-star rating?! We are visiting from the DC area, so we relied on these online reviews when we chose to try Grand China Buffet for dinner on New Year's Eve (tonight). We paid at the counter and were shown to our table. As we started walking among the steam tables, we began to wonder. There was not a lot to choose from. There were lots of filler foods like huge slices of garlic bread, breakfast link sausage (Seriously? At a Chinese buffet?), roasted potato quarters, tater tots, and 3-inch-square spinach puffs. Just the huge size of these filler foods was enough to put you off eating. The pale french fries and onion rings looked as if they had come straight out of the freezer bag and had not been re-fried. I took a fry and a ring to taste, and they were cold and hard and had not been re-fried! We should have left, but we each got a plateful of food -- still hopeful. As we sat down and took our first tastes, we knew we had made a bad mistake. The pigs' feet were tough and had not been cooked long enough, and they tasted of salty soy sauce with no other seasonings. Ugh. The fried chicken was cold and greasy. We all looked at our plates and could not continue past our first bites. We went to the counter and asked for a proportionate amount of our money back. We had paid $46 including a tip, and they gave us back only $25 of it. We then drove straight to Super China Buffet in Shoreline, where we had had a superb dinner a week ago, and we had a delicious dinner there tonight. I guess Grand China Buffet gave us a $21 lesson that you should always ask to see the steam tables before you pay. If you must go there, please go in and look at the food before you pay. Caveat emptor. Pros: 15%-off coupon Cons: bad food, poor variety more
