My favorite restaurant in LA 8/4/2007

My husband and I have been going to Genghis Cohen for the most wonderful Chinese food in LA since 1993. Our favorites are the spicy cilantro shrimp, queen chicken with broccoli and the rockin Mai Tai's! This is hands down, the best meal in LA. The service is consistently good and friendly. A great place to get together with friends and enjoy a perfect meal. Our only issue with the place ever was once when the mgr put a reserved sign on our table before our check came - it made us feel uncomfortable. But the food is so good that we will go back. Next time - no reserved sign... thanks! Pros: You're going to love it all Cons: None more

Best Chinese Food in Town! 2/25/2007

This is my favorite Chinese restaurant in all of Los Angeles. The service is fantastic, the food is wonderful. I like the restaurant atmosphere, and the option to listen to live music next door. We realy enjoyed the black peppered beef dish (a genghis favorite), and the crackerjack shrimp - which is sweet and spicy. I absolutely love shrimp - the shrimp friend rice was also excellent. Overall, I highly recommend this place - the food is top notch! Great dining experience too - nice big booths, dim lighting, great staff! Pros: Food, Service, Friendly staff Cons: parking might be a hassle on weekend, but street & lot parking available more

Genghis...once a week just isn't enough! 4/22/2006

My girlfriend and I have been dining at Genghis Cohen about once a week for almost two years now. The food is great...I especially recommend the Maine Scallops Hunan Style, the fried pork potstickers, the three flavor sizzling rice soup, and the Salt Shrimp in the Shell. The Mai Tai is one of the best I've had. Dinner for two with four cocktails, and appetizer and two entrees come to about $65. A GREAT deal, especially in Hollywood. Pros: Food and Drink, Cool Music Space, Free Parking Cons: Service can be slow more

Great Food w/NY Flair 3/1/2004

We really enjoy dining at Genghis Cohen. Everything I've eaten there has been good. My favorites are the Gold Shrimp and the Green Beans. Who would know that green beans could taste so good and hold their own as an entree. The dining atmosphere is pleasant, and the wait staff are attentive and nice. Great place to have a meal, and the music room on the other side is a good place to check out some local talent. Highly recommended. Pros: Great Fooo, Fun Atmosphere more

Vegetarian Choices 7/11/2003

Wonderful food with many choices for the veggie dinner. I'd always wanted to try lettuce leaf wrap but usually it's a meat dish - not here, it's veggie and delicious. The prices are very reasonable too, the bar makes a mean pina colada. Pros: Inexpensive, Good Parking more

Solid as a Wok 6/17/2003

This is actually a much better restaurant than a bar. Try the Queen's chicken, cilantro shrimp and szechuan green beans. The New York eggroll is awesome. So are the pan-seared dumplings. Just about everything is worth a shot. Watch out for the mustard. I defy you to find hotter mustard. more

Great atmosphere 4/24/2003

We recently stopped by for dinner and a show, and really loved the atmosphere here. The classic chinese restuarant vibe, including excellent fruity drinks, spacious and comfy seating, and dim lighting was perfect. The performance space was really cool. We also found the service to be fantastic. The food, while decent, was unfortunately just OK. The best item we had was the Queen's chicken. The other items we had seemed well prepared, but nothing really blew our minds. Pros: service, atmosphere more

The Ultimate Showcase Place 6/13/2002

Very cool place. Part of a Chinese food restaurant, the bands play in a small room, where you can grab a seat and watch, or sit at the bar, and watch through a huge window, or watch from the TV moniters. For bands, a great place to be seen and heard. more

Unplugged Music 5/22/2002

A favorite haunt of unplugged singer/songwriters, this intimate venue is haven for raw talent amid the chaos of the rock scene. It's quieter than most stages -- maybe that explains the pew style seating -- like we're supposed to be in church or something. Centrally located, it's a great location to stop on your way between destinations, though once inside you might not want to leave. It's very cozy, non-pretentious and friendly. more
