So far the nicest tuxedo joint I have been to... 11/29/2008

I read this place got voted the best place to get a tux by the San Francisco Chronicle, so we came here for our wedding tux?s. What a sweet place. I have to say I was quite impressed. The selection was large and extravagant, service was really pleasant and calming. The lady that helped us was humming nonchalantly along to the music while working, constantly asking me and my guys if things felt comfortable during our fittings. They really had one of the best put together stores I have seen for a tux place, ie.. had every style I could imagine in stock for us to try on. Another thing I thought was pretty sweet about this place was two ladies that helped us were able to put a perfect fitting tuxedo on me with just one measurement, wth?! I found this capability rather refreshing, after having rented tuxs before, twenty different measurements done, then have it not fit at all when I pick the darn thing up. In my experiences the hardest things to find are an honest mechanic, a skilled dentist, and a tuxedo place that doesn?t mess up on your sizes. If this company ever opens up a garage, I'll be all set. more

awesome tux place 11/5/2008

Although I don't regularly wear a tux to black tie events (I'm more of a suit type of guy), this is an awesome place to go for a tuxedo. The staff was extremely helpful and really went out of their way to make sure my tuxedo fit the way I like it. I don't know how large that backroom is, but the woman who helped me pulled out a huge variety of things for me to try to make sure we were getting all the right sizes. I was very impressed by how knowledgeable and thorough the staff was. I told them I was a little picky on the fabrics I wear and they immediately suggested a high grade wool for me that was perfect. more

See you next time 9/5/2008

This is where the hubby and his entourage got their tuxedos. The guys look great and they made my nephew look even cuter then he already is therefore they get 5 stars. All kidding aside they did a real good job on our wedding, and my friends wedding?definite class act. The guys guy were able to pick up a day early with no problems and when my nephew lost his tie ON our wedding day, we called them and they were able to have a tie driven from their warehouse to the store within 15 minutes. I thougth that was cool, quicker then most pizza deliveries I have experienced. They were real patient with my dad too, which trust me isn?t the easiest task unless your Ghandi. So the above mentioned coupled with awesome looking tuxedos and real good selection, yeah ok see you next time. more

Best tuxedo shop 8/5/2008

Most of my guys picked up out of their Main Street location but the three tuxedos that were picked up here looked great too. Over all I think this company does a very good job of making sure everything goes right, there pretty finicky like my wife about things going as scheduled, which I guess isnt a bad thing. Nice that they seem to genuinly have pride in their work which you dont see often these days, some of our other vendors werent as accomodating as hoped. What I thought was cool was we had one guy who flew in on the day of the wedding becasue of minor emergency and this location was able to fit him up on the spot and send him out with what I picked out for my guys. So unless anything changes about this company, or they go under new management and start to s*ck or whatever, this is definatly where im sticking with for future tux needs. Pretty good eats in that area too if your into pho. Pros: Great all around service and excellent selection Cons: it was pretty crowded more

Great Fit 6/15/2008

Although we didnt get our shoes here, I applaud Formal Headquarters for having exceptional tuxedos, a top notch show room, and professional service. Throughout the course of my tuxedo search, an expedidition that was constructed under the pretense of satiating my wife, I visited in total 8 tuxedo companies, wore over 25 tuxedos, and narrowed my selection to a 3 button from Jean Yves and another one by Ralph Lauren. In the end, Formal Headquarters won out (the 08 parisian rocks!) Chaps had some of the more masculine and fitted outifts. I think some of the Chaps stuff is too commercialized, but its made of nice material and fits well. I'm sure all their sales people know their stuff, but I'd recommend asking for the lady that helped us, I think her name was Amy. She was a wealth of knowledge who told us she has worked at this shop for many years and she says it like it is....which I personally appreciated. I was especially impressed when she told us not to buy the shoes from Formal headquarters since I told her I am not a fan of renting shoes, and additionally I don?t like patent leather (tuxedo shoes). She suggested we go to a place nearby, because we could get something in between patent leather and non patent leather and save ourselves hundreds of dollars. She said this way we could buy something we really wanted, since we were going to be keeping the shoes and not renting. And get this...she even offered to come with us to the place on her day off to help us find the perfect shoes to compliment the tux. Now thats good service. The only draw back was that they always seemed to be really packed. Every time we had to go in for a fitting or even the initial appointment which was on a Tuesday (I assume hardly a normally busy shopping day), it was hard to get into a dressing room with so many people crawling around. Over all we really liked this place, definitly recommend it... more

I like... 3/3/2008

I had given up on shopping at Mainstreet Plaza mainly because everything there (except Armadillo Willy?s) sucked! When my fiance suggested we go there for our wedding tuxedos, well, I was less than enthusiastic because I?m just not that fond of this area for my type of shopping. I liked the (lame word) ambiance, but the ties WERE kind of weak, though; I was tempted to subtract half a star for that. The place had a really comfortable atmosphere, for being so upscale. It was dimly lit, which I like and the decor was really nice. I mean, this is an upscale place and therefore kind of pricey, but I just like that it isn't one of those places that treats everyone like sardines and is completely over priced for the type of atmosphere it provides, and for what they offer The service there (on our severely packed pick up night) was OUTSTANDING in fact they were almost TOO pester-y...the formal wear appeared, in modern presentation and in light speed. All eleven tuxedos were consistently high quality and nicely presented. Great formalwear but definitely not for the price conscious.. All in all a very good experience. Pros: Good quality, lovely decor ,and atmosphere Cons: fairly expensive more

Really nice tuxs 8/26/2007

Formal Headquarters is by far my favorite tuxedo place in South bay. The space is gorgeous and comfortable. The lounge is super chic and the tuxedo staff are on top of their game. I love the cushy tan lounge chairs that spell out Formal headquarters; they're perfect for cuddling up in or facilitating a more personal feeling in large groups. I personally could do without the attitude from kids during prom when we picked up. Hello! I know it was kinda busy, and the ten minute wait makes some of the people there have something stuck high up their heinies, but still! As far as service goes, the greeters, hostesses, and managers have always been friendly and fairly prompt. The atmosphere is a Strong point. Despite being slightly pricey, the tuxedos here are great. I'd recommend the three button we got, and there enchantment line of vest - both unique to this place from what we discovered by shopping around. Warning: Do not order the Mirage. A friend of a friend ordered this for a wedding he attended and the thing didn?t fit well at all! He also said it was very stuffy to wear, it was like it was constantly making his pores sweat! No one danced with him, people fought over who had to share a bed with him, and he inherited a new nickname. Pros: Great quality Cons: real busy on their pick up days more

Excellent Service, Great tuxedos, But avoid on weekends parking is very hard to find 5/26/2007

The decor is fabulous. I was very impressed with the lady who helped me. Probably the best and most genteel service I've ever had. Was sincere and prompt without ever gushing or being too familiar. The quality and price of the tuxs was very good. On our wedding day the tuxedos looked great; no complaints there. The hard to find parking on the weekend was the least impressive part, but I'd give Formal Headquarters a good solid 'A'. Everything else gets an 'A+'. I'll DEFINETLY go back again next time we need formal wear.. Pros: decor, service Cons: parking more

Great place for tuxs 4/4/2007

I have to agree with what the other reviewers are saying. Great design, Great staff and atmosphere. As you walk in to this place, you can't help to notice the detail and effort in building this place. Staff is great, however do NOT go during peak hours. Overall the tuxedos were very nice. We had to wait 10 minutes for some alterations but besides that they made picking up and returning real easy. Pros: Great service, Great price Cons: Busy during peak hours (we had to wait 10 minutes to pick up) more

Not Bad 3/29/2007

I recently got married and got my tuxedos through these guys. They were recommended to me through my aunt, so we decided to give them a try. They gave us a fair price and the tuxedos fit good. I'm just happy that there were no high water pants. I have to admit, seeing my groom dressed up like James Bond was pretty nice. more

Go here for your tuxedos! 3/29/2007

Formal Headquarters in Southside San Jose is one of the best 'hot-spots' for tuxedos. The atmosphere is one of the great reasons to go there, it was a very classy upscale experience. The tuxedos were excellent quality and the service was top notch. Be prepared to spend the afternoon there as it can be easy to lose track of time! It is also in a great location to do a little shoping at Mainstreet Plaza. I had met with Formal Headquarter's at a bridal show. They told us that they were giving a big discount on their tuxedos. The girl who spoke to us was really nice. My fiance and I decided to go with her and asked her which store she worked at so she could help us there. A week later I had my fiance call in and set up an appointment at the Mainstreet location. When we came in she actually remembered what we talked about from the bridal show! We were there for probably an hour trying on just about everything. At the end we finally made a decision and paid for my fiance's tuxedo. Later I had decided to put my brother in a tuxedo and called in to add his name to my list. I wasn't sure if he was suppose to match the groomsmen or not so I told the same girl that I'd come in myself to choose out a color for him. I asked her when was the next time she'd be working and she told us anyone could help us but she was there again when we came in so that was good. A few weeks before my wedding I had called in to double checked that all the guys had gotten measured and I actually spent about half an hour chatting with her about what else I needed to get done for my wedding. Two days before the wedding we came back in to pick up my fiance and brothers tuxedo and everything fit great. The whole process was pretty painless, if only it was that easy buying dresses! Pros: Friendly staff more

They have the best ambiance, nicest tuxedos, great service 3/29/2007

At first I just didn?t get all the hype. But after renting my wedding tuxs there I have to say the service was outstanding, beautiful formal wear, tuxedos fit like a glove, classy decor and the place has an incredible atmosphere! It was pretty busy but definatly worth it. If you have had bad experiences with tuxedos not fitting well like I have, or unknowledgeable incompetent service you should go here for a real upscale experience. I just referred them to my sister in law for her wedding. Thank you to the staff at Formal Headquarters for helping me with one of the most stressful days of my life. Pros: Great service, Large selection, Knowledgeable sales staff more

Very pleasant experience, higly recomended 3/28/2007

I used Formal Headquarters for my wedding tuxedos about 2 months ago. I previously heard about them through a bridal faire that I?d attended. We were very pleased with the service and the prices that were offered to us when we came into the store. The staff was very helpful and made sure that we were comfortable with what we had chosen for the bridal party. Not only was I pleased with the service that I received, but my out of town groom?s men were very impressed with there on site tailoring. Apparently, one of the groom?s men measurements was incorrect, but instead of having him take home the high water pants, they actually altered right on the spot for him while he went to grab some lunch. Everything turned out great for the wedding and we got really nice photos of the guys and color combination worked out great for everybody. I highly recommend Formal Headquarters to any future bride and groom, or anyone that will be attending to any formal events. And the store I went to in Mainstreet Plaza was beautiful. It looked like Santana Row and smelled like the Bellagio in Vegas, very comfortable couches was a definite plus. I highly recommend them. more

Good Stuff 3/27/2007

I've heard horror stories about tuxedo shops, so I was a little skiddish when walking into this place (among other tuxedo shops I've shopped around at). But the staff immediately put me at ease by walking me through the whole process for my tuxedo. We found the perfect color to match my bridesmaids' dresses (which I only found at this shop) and I left feeling confident I picked the right place. The fitting day went very well. In fact, they let us take our tuxedos that day since everything was already exactly the way we wanted it. One of our groomsmen liked his pants a little bit longer and they had on-site tailoring to accommodate that as well. I honestly can't say anything bad about my experience with Formal Headquarters, except for the fact that they were a little too packed. The other vendors for my wedding were just great too, but since I've heard so many bad things about tuxedo shops, I was particularly happy about my experience. Pros: Customer Service Cons: none more
