A littlle bit funky, a little bit eat and drink well 7/1/2007

The ""Leap"" offers reasonably priced comfort food in a warm environment. Food is always tasty and served with a good presentation. Portions are generous. Access to full bar service augmented by an eclectic music / video mix (pleasantly in the background) and a room decorated with what seems to be a zillion nic knacks makes for a comfortable and cozy dining experience. The host, Rudy, is a sweetheart. . Pros: Good prices, pleasant enviornment, good food, good service. Cons: Don't take reservations. more

Warning: This Is Not A Restaurant For Straight Couples 10/5/2006

The food was good, the service was friendly, the people were nice given the circumstances. \r \r Oh, the circumstances you ask?\r \r I was dumb and thought that this was a restaurant for straight people and took my wife here. We were the only heterosexual couple in the restaurant. Which worked out and the staff acted natural but it wasn't exactly something we anticipated. \r \r Pros: Great Gay Couple Restaurant Cons: Bad Straight Couple Restaurant more

Casual American fare and refreshingly unpretentious for Silverlake 9/4/2006

I came here with a friend who happened to have a $100 gift certificate - which we spent in its entirety. $100 isn't THAT much for dinner for two, but at the Flying leap, we were able to try a bite of 1/2 the items on the menu. Crab cakes and cobb salads for appetizers, creamy bowtie pasta and new york steak for dinner, onion rings on the side, apple pie ala mode and cheesecake for dessert. I'm sure there is more I am forgetting. The main dining area is rather small, but we ate on the deck and had an attentive waiter all to ourselves (maybe this had something to do with us breaking the bank on a Tuesday evening). All in all, the food is as casual and comforting as the ambience - a rare and relaxing find in the uber-hip and often over priced Silverlake. Pros: Big portions of comfy food more

Cozy Neighborhood Cafe with Great Food! 8/9/2006

The staff is friendly and the food that we ordered was delicious. And, everything was reasonably priced. I had the Bowtie Primavera pasta with French Brie sauce and it was amazingly good. The staff was very friendly and although the tables were very close together, it was cozy rather than uncomfortable. French music in the background created a fun atomsphere. Overall, we really enjoyed our experience and will be coming back again. more

Great Find! 2/25/2006

Found this restaurant through an Ent Book and were suprised we hadn't stumbled upon it in the neighborhood. The food/service were amazing. Not sure that the label of ""comfort food"" does this place justice. Had a wide variety of things on the menu, chicken, veal, steak, pasta, burgers etc.We had the veal medallions and Oscar Pasta (light cream sauce, bacon, tomatoes) both were amazing. Average entree is around $15 and well worth it. Good wine selection. There is a bar attached if you have to wait a few minutes for a table. The bar ""Other Side"" was clearly an older male gay bar...drinks were strong and cheap and the bartender was friendly. There was also great live music. However, since the restaurant is a bit small...its a great alternative if you have to wait a few minutes. Restaurant does not take reservations, only for a party larger than 6. Pros: Food, Service Cons: Restaurant Size, No Researvations more

This place was great! 9/8/2005

I agree with the other recent reviewers....I had a delicious meal here and the service was great. The ambience was terrific and I very much enjoyed the other side lounge as well. The singer/piano players were great entertainment, as were the many guest stars-locals who got to perform as well. This a great place for a nice meal and drink with live music. I highly recommend if you have not been here, you come for an evening of charm and great cuisine! Pros: quaint, charming, fun more

Great Place 7/28/2005

This is a great place to eat. Just because someone had a bad experience here does not mean this is a bad place. I eat here quite often, and have never had trouble with 'surly, indifferent' waitstaff. They only take reservations for parties of 6 or more. At any rate, for the ambience and price, this a great place with great food! Pros: Waitstaff, Ambience, Food more

Patron 8/15/2004

This place is like a comfortable old shoe. I eat here 3 times a week, it's reminiscent of a New York City cafe, with possibly the best menu value in town. The steaks are always tender and the fish very fresh. this place is very romantic. Los Angeles needs more of this kind of restaurant. Pros: Food quality, price point, service more
