They have the best chocholate lava cake. It's awesome. If you want a place to hang out late at night just for drinks and dessert then you must come here. Pros: chocolate

Chauvinist manager 5/30/2010

I gave it 2 stars just so this review wouldn't be removed! I would give it a big fat zero if I could. I have NEVER been treated like this in my entire life. I was very hungry, and waiting for my date to arrive. I asked to be seated at a table for two, and mentioned that it is supposed to be an anniversary date (read quiet and intimate). The manager (oh, what a jerk) seated me at a table for four, next to a family of four screaming babies. When I said I wold rather wait for a more intimate table he asked me ""Oh, what did lady have in mind exactly?"" in a condescending voice. He proceeded to put me on the waiting list and while there at the bar waiting, I saw that they have tables available. I asked to be seated there, and he told me that those are reserved for ""parties, and not people who come alone"" !!!!!!!!!! As my date is a doctor, and he was on call, he got stuck at a hospital and an hour late, the jerk wouldn't seat me for another hour, even though there were tables available. I would have left, but finale is where we met, and it would ruin the whole idea of an anniversary date. At the end, I said to him, OK, so, I can't eat alone? He replied with an ugly smirk and seated me (again) in the middle of the room with bright lights in my face, blinding me. At this point, I didn't want to argue with the idiot and I just ate a bite until my date showed up. I am appalled at the fact that a lady CAN NOT EAT ALONE at a place deemed upscale like this one. So, what it boils down to is that I would not be able to get a nice table in reasonable time if I didn't have a date. How chauvinistic and pigly disgusting. I am NEVER GOING BACK THERE AGAIN. EVER. Pros: some good deserts Cons: lousy service, warm white wine, no salt in dishes more

The best chocolate lava cake! 2/10/2010

Delicious desserts! 8/13/2008

Though it has appetizers and entrees, this restaurant specializes in heavenly desserts. Chocolate lovers must try the ?Chocolate Infatuation.? Intended to be split for two, the dish includes truffles and a molten lava cake among the other chocolate tasting items. This restaurant is definitely a good pick for a special, romantic occasion. more

Waste of Money! 5/8/2008

If you want to feel like you've been ripped off I suggest going here. It's all just a bunch of well thought out hype to get you in the door. Pros: Nothing! more

BAD 9/25/2007

We recently went to Finale and it was not good. Service was okay but not anything to write home about and something about watching staff bring pastries and fruit up from a garage just doesn't seem sanitary! EWW! I thought this was suppose to be a great romantic place to eat with my husband but it was not! I would not suggest to anyone! Cons: Desserts were little and cost so much more

AWFUL 3/16/2007

I understand that gourmet desserts are smaller portioned and expensive, but the quality is supposed to be worth it. The molten chocolate was miniscule, 12 dollars, and not particularly good. I left feeling completely unsatisfied and totally ripped off. I will go ANYWHERE else, or skip dessert entirely, rather than returning. Save your money. Cons: price, portion, taste, staff more

melting for motlen chocolate 11/9/2006

My first trip to Boston my friend from Harvard took me to Finale. I was at first disappointed to see how small the veggie pizza I ordered was, but when I saw the desserts come out, I understood why. I ordered some fancy-looking chocolate cake, but had a taste of my friend's molten chocolate and decided to order my own. It is the most heavenly dessert I've ever had and I wish they had other chains across the country. Pros: dessert Cons: small meals more

Not impressed with the desserts based on some of the reviews 9/3/2006

A couple of friends came up to visit from NYC and I thought I would take them to Finale for some dessert after dining out Grill 23 (my favorite seafood and steak fix). We should have just had dessert at Grill 23. The staff really needs an attitude adjustment, I don't want to be mean but they work in a dessert shop that's all I can really say. As for the desserts, I don't know if the staff just put a bad taste in my mouth or the desserts was just not very impressive. I think this place is highly over rated as being #1 under city search.... Cons: Hire some new staff and work on the desserts more

They do it with style 6/17/2006

I don't understand the comments from one of the previous posters who sat down in one of the smaller restaurants in the Boston area and lied about the number of people in his/her party. This is a great place to go, especially for a couple or small group of friends. I'm there at least once a month and am very excited to see them opening another restaurant soon in the Coolidge Corner location. The quality of the ingredients is superb and every manager I've met has gone out of their way to accommodate every request. If you're making one of the best restaurants in the Boston area uncomfortable for the other people, then you should be asked to leave -- I'm positive they tried on numerous times to accommodate you. Visit Finale for a top notch experience! Pros: Food, Service with Style Cons: Large incomplete parties squeezing you out more

A must for after dinner sweets and champagne 3/30/2006

We went to Finale to have a ""little"" desserr, and the two of us ended up sharing the TEMPTATION FOR TWO, which is an amazing chocolate plate featuring 5 Valrhona chocolates: Triangle of chocolate hazelnut cake, Dark Chocolate Decadence cake with honey caramel gelato, Molten Chocolate cake with an apricot sauce, nougat mousse in a white chocolate Florentine cup, and assorted baby cookies. Everything was so delicious and the molten cake just melted in our mouths. Top this off w/a glass of champagne and you are set for a romantic end to an evening. Our server was fabulous - I didn't catch her name, but she is probably the tiniest person I have ever met. Very helpful, very attentive. Pros: Molten Cake, Champagne Seletions, Milk served w/cookies Cons: A little noisy, Big crowds more

rude management 2/27/2006

firstly, they seated 5 of us at a 4 person booth. my friends and i spent $200 on dessert and drinks. a 6th friend met us at the restaurant while we were waiting for the server to bring us our change and sat down next to our booth. she couldn't have been there 5 minutes when the rude manager asked our 6th friend to leave claiming that it was unfair to our neighbors...i was astonished-- we spent a lot of money and it was not our fault that they had squeezed us in a space too small for our party. i will not go back... Cons: rude management, over-priced, crowded more

A great date! 8/23/2005

Finale has delicious desserts and a huge, often overwhelming, selection of drinks. The staff is upbeat and the atmosphere is perfect both inside and outside on the patio. This is a fantastic date place and would be fun to go with a small group of friends to celebrate a special occasion or just for fun. Pros: Dessert, Drinks, Atmosphere Cons: Parking more

#1 Restaurant in Harvard Square, hands down 6/19/2005

I have lived in Harvard square for years... Finale is #1. Thier desserts are to die for, i find myself craving the Majari and Molton Chocolate cake constantly. The prelude menu is wonderful and light as well. The prices are just right for the quality, taste, and presentation of the desserts. Not to mention the service! The servers are all young, very good looking, and attentive. The managers are always present and willing to help with any customer request. THe Chefs create desserts in front of customers and are always offering smiles and explainations of desserts for interested customers. I find myself leaving at least 20% tip if not more for the excellent service and experience. Expect waits on weekends, so stop in ahead of time and put yoru name on a wait list, while you explore Harvard Square. THe organized hosts will call you when your table is ready. more

Worth the wait, everytime... really! 6/5/2005

From delicious weekday turkey-and-avacado sandwiches, to late-night weekend caramel pear sorbet in a pecan bowl, Finale offers good fare and impeccable service. Staff are prompt, accomodating, and interesting. Patio is fabulous in warm weather. I've had dates, reunion happy hours, and birthdays here (in addition to day-to-day visits) -- great place. Pros: inventive desserts, extensive wine list, smart and fun staff Cons: price (but not crazy), busy (so call ahead) more

Very Very Bad Service 3/23/2005

The waitstaff was very impolite. When we didn't order a lot of food I guess (3 persons 2 desserts and 3 drinks), she roll her eyes, shake her head and took our menu with force. Although we left her 20% tips, we won't go back again. Cons: poor service, crowded, over price more

Wonderful chocolate molten cake 3/6/2005

The desserts here are amazing, although a bit overpriced. If you come at night, expect to spend $10 per dessert. Instead, I would recommend going in the afternoon, ordering from the counter and taking your coffee and dessert to the table to eat. The nighttime desserts are pricey but you don't get much more than what you would get in ordering straight from the counter. Definitely try the tiramisu, the chocolate molten cake and the lemon tart. Pros: Lemon Tart more

Defense! 5/7/2004

Admittedly, I can only vouch for the Molton Chocolate - their Signature Dessert - and the Valrhona Hot Chocolate, but that's all I go here for, and both are consistently wonderful. Just as my friends are incredulous that I spend 4-5 dollars on a bar of quality dark chocolate (stop by nearby Cardullo's to get some), others can't imagine paying $12+ dollars for a mere dessert. With both Finale and my pretentious dark chocolate, friends are too busy moaning, awash in Chocolate Endorphins, to be incredulous. Skip the fruit, cheesecake, coffee, sandwiches, etc. Come for chocolate - and eat *slowly!* - you will not be disappointed. Pros: Use of Valrhona, Impressive First Date, Chocolate Endorphins more

Outstanding dessert spot. 6/11/2003

Finale's desserts rival those of any top restaurant I've been to in Boston. They use the best ingredients, and their presentation is flawless. My only criticism would be that their dessert dishes often combine too many tastes, since each dish has 3-6 different items on it, joined by a single ingredient or theme. This almost guarantees you'll get one item you don't like as much en route to getting three that you love. But that's a minor quibble - if you love rich desserts, if you love good chocolate, if you're like me and you enjoy making good desserts and like to see how a professional at the top of his/her game does it, Finale is the place. Pros: Elegant, High quality, Romantic Cons: Crowded more

SO not worth the money 4/22/2003

We went here expecting FABULOUS dessert and were served mediocre ones at ENORMOUS prices!! my creme brule was so generic and my boyfriend's cheesecake was pathetically small (even by fine dining standards) and had no crust. We were so dissapointed and felt incredibly ripped off. This location will last maybe 6 months. Don't go. Pros: waitstaff Cons: food more

Would die anywhere else 3/1/2003

Take Finale out of the theatre district and it would die an agonizing death. All the late night ""after the show"" patrons that want a nice ending to an evening keep this place humming. ANd if that's what you want, it works for that. But I've made better desserts at home, and had MUCH better at other places for a fraction of the price. Here you are paying (and paying plenty) for location and timing. That said, it does fill a niche, but I'd never go out of my way to go there. Pros: after theater, location Cons: prices, overcrowded, overrated more
