My husband and I went into Fenouil on Saturday night for our first time. When we first walked in the door we were greeted by a hostess who seemed to act as if she were speaking do...

Shooting Yourself in the Foot 12/14/2005

Fenouil's manager was VERY UNPROFESSIONAL. As a party of 11, we were understanding of their service being slow, and we weren't rowdy. Perhaps we were speaking loudly, but with 11 people, it's to be expected. During the meal, he was showing a couple around the restaurant. When he was 3 feet from our table, he said in an audible voice "This is USUALLY a classy restaurant", indicating that he was talking about us. His passive-aggresiveness, and blunt disregard for whether we heard him was disgusting. We had just spent hundreds of dollars on food and cocktails, and he was turning his nose up at us. I will NEVER go back. It's a shame, because other than their awful manager, the restaurant is good. I feel sorry for the waitstaff who has to work under someone who doesnt understand what etiquette or professional behavior is. Pros: Bradford the Waiter, Excellent Busgirl, Good Food Cons: Snobby Manager more

Downhill? 12/5/2005

I love Fenouil, but last night was a huge disappointment. I have always been impressed with their appetizers, salads and sides, but the entrees have been where there has been a problem. I recommend not ordering any of the steak dishes and sticking with the fish and other entrees. They consistently overcook steak and there is nothing special about the panfried taste of a steak costing $35. We had the NY steak and the sauce/mushrooms were divine, but the steak tasted like something thrown in a skillet at home, and it was TEENY for $35. We also thought the meat tasted a little old, and not like the delicious NY we were expecting. They did comp our salads for the issue, so that was nice. Pros: Great Ambiance, Great Food, Great Service Cons: Parking more

Big City haute cuisine comes to the Pearl 11/18/2005

Like Balthazar in NYC or Campagnile in LA. Pascal's team are as good as it gets for great relaxing big space nouvelle French restaurants. Ingredients are A+++, execution is precise and consistent, waitstaff are tops, prices reasonable, Its French Bistro modern so don't expect heavy or fattening sauces. For a 3 week old restaurant, the food is already 97% worked out which is remarkable. I'd like to hear live jazz trios in the Bar Lounge and that would be icing on the cake. Pros: Great Service, Great Food, Great Atmosphere more

First night at Fenouil... 10/23/2005

Fenouil (pronouced fen-oo-ee) This lovely restuaurant in the heart of the Pearl, overlooking Jamison Park can boast both fine dining and scenery. Both my husband and I partook of appetizers that will leave you pondering the number of taste buds in your mouth and entrees that were well sized and equally excellent. The wait-staff was friendly, helpful and very attentive. When we mentioned our food allergies, they went out of their way to confirm the food we were ordering would work for us. They have a range of wines to suit both the economically-minded and the connaisseur. We would highly recommend this place to anyone, and will be taking our friends and family there for nice nights out. Pros: Fabu food, excellent service, beautiful surrounding more
